I hope you know I binge read Pink Fang in PDF form for like a week of going to sleep at 5am and reading it as soon as I wake up.

You're insane. Utterly insane. The fic is so freaking good it should be illegal and got me screaming at the fact it is still going.

I can only imagine the hours you have devoted to it, so I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing such a masterpiece with us for free. It does feel like I'm committing a crime for not paying to read it. That's how good it is.

I probably reread it on AO3 at some point to leave you comments about each chapter, since that's how obsessed I am.

Anyway, just wanted to scream this at you.

Hi, Pink Fang is my favorite Naruto fic ever and one of my favorite fics of all time overall! I just finished rereading it again and I just want to say thank you for writing it- it's /so/ good. I love how much worldbuilding is in it, the logic of how the world works is so consistent, how Sakura is doing absolutely groundbreaking bullshit and yet she still has her limitations that she can only sometimes overcome...

I also Really love her relationships with everyone, /especially/ Ino. And especially now that we've seen Ino's POV and it's ugh so good. They love each other so much. Ino's twin love and resentment for Sakura, but the love still keeps winning... the way Ino would kill Shikaku for Sakura and Sakura would save her over Tsunade... Sakura being VERY aware of Ino's flaws as a person in a way and still loving her very much, even if she IS a bitch (i say this w love too)

Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your work with us readers and take as much time as you want. Pink Fang is already a masterpiece as it is lmao

Been a huge fan of pink fang since the very beginning, love it so much!! I have a question about ino and sakura’s friendship/relationship. You made a heroes reference, which I unfortunately or fortunately know nothing about even when I looked it up. Can you elaborate on that a bit? It’s great how you’ve grown this friendship and while you see the jealousy a few times, you don’t get the full impact until ino’s chapter. With the growth of both their abilities they’ve become excellent foils as well.

As for the Heroes reference, it was about their abilities: in Heroes, Sylar can cut people’s heads open and study their brain to get their powers. Peter Petrelli simply needs to see someone’s powers to copy them.

This parallels how Ino and Sakura steal/copy bloodline limits: Ino eats their minds while Sakura just has to see it done.

the most experimental fanfic i've ever read - destiny by avulle (avatar: the last airbender)

for day 1 of fanfic appreciation month, i talked about an experimental avatar: the last airbender fanfic that i've been thinking about for years. today we i will be doing the exact same thing, this time the fic destiny by avulle (@avulle on tumblr)

in general, i love parallelism in writing, it's one of my favorite rhetorical devices. this fic, which i first read in 2016, is my favorite example of parallelism, for the sheer amount of parallels it draws.

the premise is this: toph's spirit is born into azula's body and she is blind. azula's spirit is born into toph's body and she has sight. this changes a lot.

the fic is extremely unique in the sense that, with 6,613 words, it tells its story from the pov of 22 different characters, as well as an omniscient 23rd pov. each of these 22 character POVs has this same parallel structure:

the first sentence tells us the character's name, who they are, and how, why or who they love, do not love, trust, or hate. then, it explains what happens when they run into toph or azula, and how they react. at the end, the character does the only thing they can do.

everytime i read this fic, i'm both so impressed and notice something new. this last read, i noticed that of the 22 characters with POVs, only four are not said to "do the only thing [they] can" - Ozai does what is only proper, Long Feng still has no choice even if the exact phrase is not used, and Toph and Azula gain control of their own destinies.

My two favorite POVs are Sokka and TyLee, and I personally think their sections embody the themes of "doing the only thing you can" and love the best. TyLee, who loves everything, finds the only thing she can do is love more. Sokka, who loves slowly, finds himself loving and trusting anyway. "he does the only thing he can. He rolls over, and goes back to sleep," is such a banger line for real.

This concept is genius and interesting as all hell, and the execution is flawless and breathtaking. I've been thinking about it for years and I'll keep thinking about it for years.

Fanfic appreciation month (December) will be me taking time to talk about (at least) one of my favorite fanfics everyday, and then cross-posting it to the ao3 comments section, because my comments have been lacking lately and i'm gonna fix it! i'll be trying to link to the author's tumblr page as well if i can find it, but if i don't find it and you know what it is, please let me know so i can credit them here as well! It's always a good day whenever you update, it's interesting how pink fang went from oh sakuras bullshit control, to, what is humanity but a goal and overpowering will, was the eldritch monster always planned? Were you always going to head this route in the story, or did something inspire you and cause the original story to change? I'm curious. Is humanity a thing in the Naruto world, or is it a mindset.

The eldritch monster thing was a development to get me through writing block back when I was writing my first draft. The idea that the true shape of the soul was something unspeakable and eldritch spoke to me, and integrating that into the story helped me work through that part of the story without hitting a wall. (Pink Fang is really just a sequence of ideas I thought were super cool strung together XD)

As for if humanity is a thing or a mindset... I'm not sure I really distinguish between the two. All things that think in Pink Fang are have humanity, toads, foxes, humans, and people like Sakura.

Hi! I wanted to let you know how much I adore pink fang. Sakura (as written by authors who care about her) is one of my favorite characters and you do amazing work with her!

The constant struggle of ‘is this enough? am I enough’ is so compelling and I love watching her find new and unique ways to bend this game (which was firmly against her, ever since the beginning) and make it her bitch (gn).

I also love the sneak peeks into others minds and watching grown adults come to the realization this pink little girl is better than them. She doesn’t rub it in anybody’s face, but she is.
