People I Wish I Knew Better
tagged by @carolkinopf and @merrydock like a whole ice age ago, but I'm doing it now, so that counts right?
Favorite Color: I love greens, blues, and purples. No I won't choose.
Currently Reading: I've been re-reading my Ao3 bookmarks in an attempt to download and organize them? There's also lots of to-reads in my book pile.
Last Song: Worth Everything Ever Wished For by The End of The Ocean. It's an instrumental thing that makes for good writing.
Last Film: Do, I, know the answer to this one? I think it might be Encanto maybe?
Last Series: Okay, don't judge me. This one is definitely Avatar the Last Airbender and it was like five years ago. Been thinking about a Buffy re-watch?
Sweet//Salty//Savory: Salty! I've been less enthused by sweet stuff lately.
Tea or Coffee?: I can get really sick if I drink either of these. That said, coffee.
Working On: So many WIPS, of course I'm currently working on the three that aren't half posted. Also hosting the Collapsed Stars Reverse Mini Bang for Outerwilds.
cool people: hmmm tagging @tippertot, @amee-racle, @archetypal-archivist but only if you want too. Also anyone else who wants to participate!

Heyyy so I've been out of work for a full year now and I'm strongly debating what to do about it since I haven't even had an interview in months despite applying all over the place. Anyone got experience with tying writing to a patreon or something?

“Oh, good, you're here Riebeck!” Hornfels says from their spot by the fire. “I just got back from helping the Tree Keepers with the bramble seed.” Riebeck says trailing off at the end. Hopefully someone else would explain why the rest of Outer Wilds Ventures was here. “Well that's just good timing.” Esker says easily. “Fels you want to make that announcement since we're all here?”

Welcome to the Outer Wilds Geological Survey!
Founders of the Outer Wilds Geological Survey Mohs & Lari
Outer Wilds hosts a story like no other; one that spans eons and is pieced together across planets. However, you may not have noticed the subtler story beneath the one we know and love - the one told through the rocks that paint the world. What rocks occur where, their shapes, colouration, and orientation, can all give an indication to a broader geological history.
Here, we aim to survey the Outer Wilds and explore what the rocks say about mineralogy, volcanic activity, major historical and geological events, and even planetary formation! From the geyser mountains of Timber Hearth, to the labyrinthine caves of Ember Twin, to the floating islands of Giant's Deep - We plan on exploring all major sites of interest and come up with our best explanations of the geology and what it means for the history of the Outer Wilds solar system.
Investigating a collapsed in cave on Ember Twin; The Grove Shard, on Timber Hearth
This blog is run by @merrydock and @dekkiidan. We are both huge fans of geology (huge enough to have studied it and have professional experience in this field!). We just couldn't help but read the rocks of Outer Wilds to see what we could learn, and we hope to share our notes with all of you to inspire you too take a better look at the geology that surrounds you, too!
If you have any questions or comments, or just want to say hi, feel free to reach out! We love Outer Wilds and talking rocks and would be happy to chat. We encourage you to explore our blog on desktop, please utilise the nav-tab and explore to your heart's content!

I’m feeling a little sappy tonight, and I just want to tell everyone in the Outer Wilds fandom how much y’all mean to me.
I love how creative and kind everyone is.
Every one of you are leaving your mark on the world, no matter how small that maybe, you are making it a better place.
It may be small but it’s so far from insignificant.

Off The Marshamallow Stick and Into the Campfire
Chapter 39
Fandom: Outer Wilds
Summary: The light of the exploding singularity is brighter than anything Obsidian has ever imagined. Breathtaking as a spark of hope when they thought everything was lost. Obsidian would know, they’d worn that feeling like a second skin, loop, after loop, after loop. The feeling still holds them even as pure light, pure possibility, consumes them. Then, nothing.
Obsidian wakes up…
Rating: Teen
Warnings: Major Character Death, severe injury, trauma, Existentialism, aftermath of trauma, alcohol use, references to suicide, mentions of substance abuse
Characters: Player Character (Obsidian), Gabbro, Hal, Gossan, Marl, Gneiss, Chert, Hornfels, Riebeck, Slate, Esker, Feldspar, Porphy, Rutile, Micha
Tags: Aftermath of the End of The Universe, Cannon Continuation, Gabbro didn’t just sit on Giant’s Deep the whole time, Player Character and Gabbro are friends, Science Compels Us to Explore the Multiverse, everyone lives kinda, things I wish the game let happen, liberties taken with in game timeliness and mechanics for easier write-a-bility, physics, metaphysics, fluff, hurt comfort, slice of life, Multiple POV, Tragedy, Character Death, Echoes of Eye Spoilers, Suicide Attempt, Adventure, Substance Abuse, No Beta We Die Like the Universe, A Bit of Prose for Flavor, All the writers and artists in this Fandom are amazing and y'all gave me brain rot

Apprehension makes Obsidian jittery as they slow their approach towards the giant black disk beginning to block out the sun. There's no denying that The Stranger is present in this universe. Though they had been almost certain it would be. The Nomai had lost the signal after all, crashing into Dark Bramble suddenly instead of reaching The Eye.

want to be clear that if i ever talk about a headcanon and then later discuss a headcanon that is directly contradictory to the first one, that’s because headcanons exist in a quantum state where they are all simultaneously true and not true up until the point where i discuss it in detail, in which case that is the one that is true in that instance. schroedinger’s headcanons

Gabbro sighs and quietly climb out of their hammock careful not to disturb Obsidian. If they're just going to lie here they should go check on Pye. She would be awake. Her poor sleep schedule rivals Gabbro and Obsidian's, though no one is quite sure if that's just normal for a Nomai. Perhaps Gabbro should ask. They grab the translator tool on their way out of the little camp they and Obsidian share in place of a proper cabin. Even though they are planning to visit Pye they walk in the direction of Slate's workshop first. A little pine bark tea will wake them up enough to keep up with the brilliant Nomai.

They're feeling terribly helpless when their partner reminds them they are always available to help by startling Hornfels. “Thought I might find you out here.” Esker says head peeking out from between two old creaky bracers. There's a loose roof panel Hornfels never bothered to fix because it gave them easy access to this spot. Hornfels watches as Esker shoves the loose roof panel further aside and pulls themselves through the hole and onto the roof, knocking their hat askew in the process. “I just have a lot on my mind.” Hornfels admits tiredly. “There's a lot to be thinking about.” Esker acknowledges stepping carefully across the roof until they can sit beside them.

Best Character Stuck in a Timeloop

Propaganda for Huey/Dewey/Louie:
Baby's first timeloop, and it's christmas themed
Propaganda for Hatchling:
catch me looping at the end of the universe
Greatest time looper from greatest game ever made let's go babyyyyyyy
They had to go through so much man, including a bunch of spoilers for the game. But one thing that is spoiler-safe is that their timeloop is caused by the sun going supernova, which is a very painful experience physically and emotionally, because the entire solar system is fucked no matter what they do.
Outer Wilds is a very personal, almost intimate journey through the game's 20 minute clockwork solar system. You can't help but develop a love for everything there. And, of course, when you begin you assume you must be trying to *save* the world. But in the end you realize all you can do is play out the old world.

For the hatchling oc questions
43,48, 28
28. Is your Hatchling a decent pilot? Were they always that way?
Well, everyone starts somewhere, so they weren't great their first shot or anything. They did take to flying pretty naturally and by the time of their launch day they were not bad for a newbie. By the times the loops are over they've got Feldspar, the best there ever was, beat. As Gabbro puts it, circumstances required they improved.
43. How deeply in denial was your hatchling about the end of the universe?
Well, I think their denial may have been deeper than the waters of Giant's Deep. Obsidian absolutely refused to believe there wasn't anything they could do to save everyone for a very long time. Then they refused to believe that they couldn't save someone. The only reason they don't try The Stranger trick is because Gabbro points out they'll starve. Then they try to make a life for themselves in the time loops anyway. It's not until they've exhausted every possibility that the time loop could give them that they finally go to The Eye.
48. How does your Hatchling really feel about The Eye?
There's some very mixed feelings there. Logically they understand that The Eye simply is and at the very end they do think that what it is, is beautiful. It also is strongly associated with loosing everything for them and I don't think they ever really come to terms with that feeling. They don't hate it, but they certainly don't like it.
