Outer Wilds painting I did a year ago after I finished the game 馃憤 I just never became satisfied with it to post it. Although I was/am pretty proud of some of the details. It's a really small painting so the majority of this was painted with itty bitty detail brushes. Also it's gouache and a bit of colour pencils, but mostly gouache
Anyways the idea was [We have a little more time together to get a group photo taken ( Esker included, fuck Feldspar tho)
Anyways, second version and close-up here uwuw

depending how much sodium, potassium, and/or calcium is available, you can get different feldspars! labradorite is my favorite.
remember: stay OUT of the miscibility gap.
there are NO FELDSPARS in the gap. you can't fit that much calcium and potassium in one feldspar. it's not done.

My good friend @radical69rose got me into a Creek Trilogy, "The Thief" by @wintergrew on Ao3 a few months ago and 3 novel length books later, I'm in emotional shambles after finishing it recently.
I loved this fic SOO much so I'm gonna be drawing a LOT fanart for it!!
Starting off with the ending of the second book in the trilogy, "The Mage" because HOLY SHIT that went so hard!!! That's all I wanted to share for now but I have so many more scene redraws I gotta do 馃榿

Your whole rock collection is a slay. Show me some funky pieces you haven't been asked about yet!!!!
Here鈥檚 a rock I鈥檝e been dying to talk about! This little guy is orthoclase feldspar! You might be familiar with the feldspar family, as it contains gemstones such as sunstone, moonstone, labradorite, and amazonite. What鈥檚 really, really interesting about this piece of feldspar is its shape. This cool formation is called a Carlsbad Twin. Let me tell you about it!
Feldspar crystals often form as flat-topped, six-sided prisms which are strongly skewed sideways. Here鈥檚 an example of another feldspar in my collection, amazonite, which shows off this crystal habit really clearly!
The two crystals in my piece of orthoclase are making that common feldspar shape! But you鈥檝e probably also noticed how they appear to be mirror images of each other, and also growing through each other.
That鈥檚 Carlsbad twinning!! It鈥檚 a type of penetration twinning, which means the crystals appear to be penetrating or passing through each other. But looks can be deceiving; what's ACTUALLY happening here is much cooler. These crystals are conjoined twins! One hasn鈥檛 penetrated the other; they鈥檙e actually sharing some of their molecules like human conjoined twins might share organs.
This can happen because of the shape of feldspar鈥檚 crystal lattice - the orderly arrangement of its molecules.
The crystal lattice won't match up perfectly throughout the entire structure, but it WILL match up right along the C axis, where we flipped it. Along this line the grid of molecules aligns, and our twin crystals can share them. The place where lattice points are shared is called the composition surface.
Simply put, molecules don鈥檛 know what shape they鈥檙e making on a macro level. The shapes they make are by complete accident, because that just happens to be what shape you get when you arrange molecules in that kind of grid. The only thing the molecules know is how they can connect to other molecules. It doesn鈥檛 matter to them which direction the crystal is growing in, or which direction the crystal lattice is facing. If they can connect up in a way that completely flips the crystal lattice, well... they don't know they're doing that! They're just doing what molecules do!
And that鈥檚 how you get Carlsbad Twins!
