ok i completely 1000% agree with this and because i’m bored i’m gonna just ramble about this for a bit:
BMC IS A SMALL SHOW....AND THAT IS OK!
I love be more chill so so much, and i’m so lucky to have seen it on broadway multiple times (thanks to stubhub and cheap tickets), but i definitely was surprised when they announced the we’re moving to broadway. and i was not surprised when they closed. bmc has always sort of been a fun little show that has a cult following, and its always kind of reminded me of rocky horror in that it’s not this huge production but a cool thing that was meant to exist in that type of way. being in the audience at a production of be more chill is most of the experience: you clap when you’re fav character comes on stage, dance in your seat to the songs, and cheer with the audience when things happen. when the exit 82 production happened and people were doing this, people (including me) were getting ticked off saying that isn’t normal theater etiquette and it’s disrespectful, so on and so on. but the more i thought about this, the more i realized how wrong i was. be more chill isn’t the typical type of show where these rules really apply. i’m not saying anyone should be disrespectful during a performance and actually cause disruptions, but a show relies just as much on audience reaction as it does the actual actors, and that’s what makes live theater so special. but sure, that is not the broadway stance on being an audience member- WHICH IS FINE!- which is part of the reason why i think bmc just wouldn’t work on broadway, if that makes any sense at all.
the other reason is that the actual content of bmc- the music, set, and cast- are all small as well. and again, THIS IS OK!! in fact, it’s great! it keeps the focus on the story and the main characters and the jokes and writing and it works. in the original soundtrack, you can hear that the sound is much simpler, to make up for the small band, the set is simpler, the costumes more bare, and obviously it worked. i feel like i need to say again that i love the broadway production too, but all in all, i prefer the two river just for that fact. the reason a broadway theater is considered broadway and off broadway is not is because of theater size (i don’t know how much a broadway theater is and i don’t feel like googling lol). so once bmc moved to broadway, they were going to have to make it fit the theater. and to do that, they made it bigger, which makes perfect sense. but then, in my opinion, i think it got a little bit muddled in the spectacle of it all.
but anyway that’s just my rambling on bmc broadway. i find the whole thing super interesting, and really one of my favorite things to do is trying to find why something works or why it doesn’t. idk who is still reading this though, sorry for the length lol
as much as I love be more chill, it is a show meant for off-broadway. I’m glad it got the opportunity to be on broadway but it just isn’t a show for the typical broadway audience

The weirdest guy I ever met in a church was this boy who referred to “Buzz Aldrin and his husband” going to the moon. I was completely baffled, and when I asked if he’d misspoken, he got really angry and accused me of being deliberately ignorant of the facts. It turned out that he was somehow comvinced that Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were married. It took five Wikipedia articles to convince him otherwise.

Apparently my director went to see a production of West Side Story a few years ago, and the guy playing Chino forgot his gun before coming out for his final scene. Once it got to the big scene where he is supposed to shoot Tony, he screeched “Poison Boots” and kicked the actor playing Tony until he went down. The girl playing Maria then had to jerk the shoe off of Chino’s foot, and had to do the gunshot scene asking “How many kicks Chino? How many kicks, and one kick left for me”.
