Ayurveda for Lifestyle Disorders: Managing Asthma and General Allergies
Asthma and allergies are widespread lifestyle disorders that can significantly impact daily life and overall health. Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, offers holistic remedies to manage and alleviate these conditions naturally, focusing on balancing the body's energies and enhancing overall well-being.
Understanding Asthma and Allergies in Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, asthma (Swasa Roga) and allergies are primarily attributed to an imbalance in the Vata and Kapha doshas. Asthma is considered a disorder of the respiratory system, characterized by breathlessness, wheezing, and coughing. Allergies, on the other hand, are seen as an immune system response triggered by various allergens, resulting in symptoms like sneezing, itching, and congestion.
Ayurvedic Remedies for Asthma and Allergies
1. Trikatu Churna:
Trikatu Churna is a classic Ayurvedic formulation consisting of equal parts of dried ginger (Sonth), black pepper (Kali Mirch), and long pepper (Pippali). This combination helps in clearing respiratory congestion, improving lung function, and reducing allergic reactions. Ginger and black pepper have warming properties that help balance Kapha, while long pepper supports respiratory health by clearing mucus and improving airflow.
2. Sitopaladi Churna:
Sitopaladi Churna is another effective Ayurvedic remedy made from sugar, bamboo manna, long pepper, cardamom, and cinnamon. It is beneficial for treating respiratory disorders like asthma, bronchitis, and coughs. Sitopaladi Churna reduces inflammation in the airways, improves lung capacity, and enhances immunity against allergens.
3. Vasakasava:
Vasakasava is an Ayurvedic formulation prepared from the Vasaka plant (Adhatoda vasica), known for its bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps in managing bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, and allergic respiratory conditions. Vasakasava reduces bronchospasms, clears phlegm, and supports overall respiratory health.
4. Dusparsavasadi Kashayam
Dusparsavasadi is an Ayurvedic formulation prepared from the Dusparsha and Vasa plant , known for its bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps in managing bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, and allergic respiratory conditions. Dusparsavasadi qwath reduces bronchospasms, clears phlegm, and supports overall respiratory health.

6. Drakshadi Kashayam
This combination helps in clearing respiratory congestion, improving lung function, and reducing allergic reactions.Draksha supports respiratory health by clearing mucus and improving airflow.
7. Kanakasavam
It helps in managing bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, and allergic respiratory conditions.
8. Swasanandam Gulika
This reduces inflammation in the airways, improves lung capacity, and enhances immunity against allergens.
9. Swasakutar Ras
This combination helps in clearing respiratory congestion, improving lung function, and reducing allergic reactions
Managing Asthma and Allergies with Ayurvedic Lifestyle Tips
Dietary Recommendations:
Ayurveda recommends a diet that balances Vata and Kapha doshas. Include warm, cooked foods that are easy to digest, such as soups, stews, and steamed vegetables.
Avoid cold, heavy, and oily foods that can aggravate Kapha and contribute to mucus production.
Drink warm herbal teas like ginger tea or licorice tea, which have anti-inflammatory properties and help reduce congestion.
Yoga and Pranayama:
Yoga Asanas: Practice yoga poses that focus on deep breathing and chest opening, such as Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), Dhanurasana (Bow Pose), and Matsyasana (Fish Pose). These poses help expand the chest, improve lung capacity, and reduce respiratory congestion.
Pranayama: Incorporate pranayama techniques like Anulom Vilom (Alternate Nostril Breathing), Kapalabhati (Skull Shining Breath), and Bhramari (Bee Breath) to clear the nasal passages, improve oxygenation, and reduce stress.
Herbal Remedies:
Ashwagandha: Known for its anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating properties, Ashwagandha helps in reducing allergic reactions and strengthening the immune system.
Tulsi (Holy Basil): Tulsi acts as a natural antihistamine and bronchodilator, helping relieve respiratory allergies and asthma symptoms.
Turmeric: With its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, turmeric reduces inflammation in the airways and helps in easing asthma symptoms.
Ayurvedic Practices for Long-Term Management
Detoxification (Panchakarma):
Undergo periodic detoxification therapies like Vamana (therapeutic vomiting) and Virechana (purgation) to eliminate toxins, balance doshas, and strengthen the respiratory system.
Stress Management:
Chronic stress can trigger asthma and allergies. Practice meditation, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques to reduce stress levels and support overall respiratory health.
Consultation with an Ayurvedic Practitioner:
Consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner to create a personalized treatment plan based on your dosha imbalance, specific health concerns, and individual constitution.
Ayurveda offers a comprehensive approach to managing asthma and allergies by addressing the root causes and providing natural remedies that strengthen the respiratory system and balance the body's energies. By integrating these Ayurvedic practices into your lifestyle, you can achieve long-term relief and enhance your overall well-being.

Optimal Immunity: Combining Modern Health Tips with Ayurveda
The increasing trend of eating foods that are nutritionally deficient and leading a fast paced lifestyle has started taking toll on our well being. Our immune system gets affected; leaving us vulnerable to a host of microorganisms that causes infections and illnesses. Strengthening our immune system is the only way to protect us from these foreign matters from entering our body.
Each person’s resistance to diseases depends on how strong his / her immune system is. A weak immune system makes a person susceptible to all kinds of infections. The person falls ill often and takes longer to recover. The main causes of weak immune systems are:
Bad diet
Excessive consumption of alcohol
Lack of exercise
Chronic stress
High intake of sugary foods
Inadequate sleep
Tumblr media
Ayurveda and the immune system
According to Ayurveda, the human body becomes vulnerable to infections and illnesses when there is an imbalance in any of the three doshas – kapha, vata and pitta. When the tridosha goes out of balance, agni, the metabolic fire that aids in digestion is also affected. When food remains undigested due to lack of agni, it reduces ojas (essence) that are vital for creating good health and immunity. Undigested food also causes ama (toxins) to be formed and these get accumulated in the various body systems, affecting its functioning.
Increase in ama and reduction in ojas causes our immune system to weaken. By balancing the doshas and eating foods that help create ojas, our immune system can be strengthened. Ayurvedic physicians also prescribe herbs depending on the body type and the season. Herbs such as manjistha, neem, daruharidra and turmeric are good immunity boosters.
Septilin tablets help to build up the body’s resistance to fight infections and prevent them from recurring. Its ingredients contain properties that strengthen the immune system.  It promotes the normal functioning of the white blood cells, thus enabling the body to fight infections effectively. It has a stimulating effect on the antibodies forming cells in our body, thus increasing their production. Septilin tablet can be taken by people for:
Upper and lower respiratory tract infections
Allergic disorders of upper respiratory tract
Sinusitis and tonsillitis
Skin and soft tissue infections and inflammations
Dental and periodontal infections
Infective and inflammatory conditions of the eye
Bone and joint infections
Urinary tract infections (UTI)
Helping your immune system to stay healthy
A weakened immune system can affect your life as you will tend to fall sick more often. The good news is that it is in our hands to improve our body’s immune system and keep it fighting off infections effectively. Proper sleep, healthy food habits and an active lifestyle are required to keep our immune system healthy. Below are some ways to help you keep your immune system in perfect working condition.
Avoid sugary foods and drinks as they impede the proper functioning of the immune system. Also avoid products that contain additives, preservatives and coloring agents.
Consume unpasteurized yogurt or milk to build up healthy intestinal bacteria that will kill off the bad bacteria and thus keep your immune system healthy.
Consuming foods rich in beta-glucans like baker’s yeast, shiitake mushrooms, and cereal grains, like barley, oats, rye, and wheat enhances immune activity against infections and reduce allergies.
Regular fasting will help to detoxify the body and boost immune system.
Adding herbs like garlic, coriander, fennel seed, holy basil, mint leaves, oregano, thyme, and turmeric helps to kill off foreign invaders and boost the immune system.
A good sleep enables our body to produce cytokines which helps fight infection, inflammation, and stress.
Following an Ayurvedic way of life along with consuming herbal supplements like Septilin can benefit you with a healthy immune system and help you lead a happy healthy life free from diseases.

Combat Kidney Stones and UTIs with Ayurvedic tips & Remedies
The proper functioning of the urinary system is vitally important for human well being. Stones in kidneys, bladders or the urethras, infections of the urinary tract, painful urination and urinary incontinence are some of the ailments that affect the urinary system. Kidney stones have become a prevalent problem over the last few decades. They are formed when excess minerals that are not filtered out through urine crystallize over time in some part of the urinary system. Stones can be painful and a source of great discomfort to the bearer. If left untreated, it can lead to complications that may require surgical intervention.
Tumblr media
Symptoms of stone formation
Smaller-sized stones may not cause pain in the body and may pass through the urine. However, larger stones can remain in the system and can cause acute pain. Some of the symptoms associated with stone formation are:
Lower back and groin or abdomen pain
Blood in the urine
Cloudy or smelly urine
Burning sensation when passing urine
Treatment for stones
With adequate fluid intake, most stones that are smaller in size will pass through the urinary tract without causing any problems. But bigger stones will require medications to increase the passage rates or treatments. In modern medicine, these include shockwave or laser lithotripsy, urethral stents, etc.
Ayurvedic treatment for stones
There are many Ayurvedic medicines available for the treatment of stones. Medicines like Cystone acts on the stone to disintegrate and pulverize the stone.
Cystone is an herbal supplement. It is prepared by mixing a combination of herbs. It acts on substances like oxalic acid and calcium hydroxyproline to minimize stone formation.  It also contains ingredients that act as antimicrobial agents to prevent infections in the urinary tract.
It helps to maintain the proper functioning of the kidneys as well as the urinary tract. It effectively prevents and minimizes the causative factors that precipitate stone formation.
Benefits of Cystone
Cystone tablets are beneficial to people suffering from disorders of the urinary system. Some of these benefits are:
It helps in the proper functioning of the urinary system
It prevents the formation of stones in the kidneys, bladder and the urinary tract

It reduces pain
Living life the right way
Disorders of the urinary system can throw your life in disarray. Some modifications to your lifestyle can aid in preventing the incidence and recurrence of these disorders. Below are some tips that will enable you to stay healthy.
Having at least 8 glasses of water a day can bring down the chances of getting a urinary system disorder.
Cutting down on your salt consumption is another way to prevent kidney stones. A high intake of salt can upset the balance of salt / minerals / water in your kidneys.
Practicing good hygiene can considerably cut down the chances of getting infections.
Having a diet rich in fruits and vegetables will help in the long run.  Vitamin C found in many citrus fruits like oranges, lemon, etc. can help in fighting infections of the urinary tract.

Understanding Arthritis: Ayurvedic Remedies & Tips
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): An Autoimmune Challenge
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a widespread autoimmune disease where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues. Specifically, RA targets the synovium, a thin membrane lining the joints, leading to inflammation, pain, and fluid buildup. RA often begins in the small joints of the hands and feet but can progress to larger joints and other body parts. If left untreated, it can result in severe complications like heart failure, stroke, and coronary artery disease.
Osteoarthritis (OA): A Degenerative Joint Disease
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease that commonly affects older adults. In OA, the cartilage covering the ends of bones in the joints breaks down, causing pain, irritation, and restricted movement. The most commonly affected joints are the back, hips, knees, and feet, though it can also impact the neck and fingers.
Symptoms of RA and OA
While both RA and OA affect the joints, their symptoms and treatments differ significantly. Accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment.
Symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis:
Morning joint stiffness
Persistent joint pain lasting over a week
Dryness in the eyes, mouth, nose, throat, or skin
Hard-to-heal injuries
Tingling in wrists and hands
Symptoms of Osteoarthritis:
Joint ache and tenderness
Crunching or grating sound in joints
Limited movement and stiffness after inactivity
Tumblr media
Ayurveda and Arthritis
In Ayurveda, arthritis is caused by the accumulation of ama (toxins) and the decrease in agni (digestive fire). Undigested food turns into ama, which circulates in the body, causing blockages and settling in the joints, leading to pain, inflammation, and stiffness.
Types of Arthritis According to Ayurveda:
Vata Arthritis: Triggered by an autoimmune response, leading to joint inflammation, stiffness, and pain. Recommended treatments include hot baths and sesame oil massages.
Pitta Arthritis: Aggravated pitta dosha causes swelling and burning sensations in the joints. Treatments include cool compresses and coconut oil massages.
Kapha Arthritis: Characterized by cold, clammy, stiff, and swollen joints. Recommended treatments include hot baths and almond oil massages.
Ayurvedic treatment aims to eliminate ama and stimulate agni to improve digestion, involving cleansing, detoxification, and herbal formulations tailored to the individual's constitution (prakriti).
Rumalaya Forte: An Ayurvedic Remedy for Arthritis
Rumalaya Forte, by Himalaya Herbal Healthcare, is an herbal formulation designed to improve bone and joint health. It alleviates joint pain and stiffness, maintains healthy cartilage and connective tissue, supports proper circulation, and enhances flexibility. It also reduces inflammation caused by RA and supports immune modulation.

Arthritis can significantly impact daily life, but adopting an Ayurvedic lifestyle can help maintain fitness and boost immunity. Here are some practical tips:
Consume omega-3 fatty acids found in cold-water fish like salmon and mackerel.
Use palms or arms to lift or carry items to reduce joint stress.
Avoid heels to minimize knee stress and reduce osteoarthritis risk.
Lose weight to improve joint health and reduce osteoarthritis risk by 50%.
Engage in gentle exercises like yoga, Pilates, and Tai Chi to keep joints strong and muscles limber.
Use cold packs or ice wrapped in a towel to reduce pain and swelling.
Massage with sesame or mustard oil to alleviate joint pain.
By following a daily health regimen and taking herbal supplements like Rumalaya Forte, you can manage arthritis effectively and enjoy a better quality of life.

Understanding Skin Pigment Disorders: Causes, Types, and Ayurvedic Treatments for Balanced Skin Health
Skin pigment disorders affect many individuals. It is a disorder which is the result of overproduction or underproduction of melanin, a pigment which gives color to the skin, hair and the iris of the eye.  The amount and type of melanin determines a person’s skin color. Too much of melanin (hyper- pigmentation) causes dark patches on the skin while too little (hypo-pigmentation) causes white patches on the skin. This can happen either on the entire body or in some specific parts of the body. Studies show that pigment disorder can occur due to sun exposure, drug reactions or genetic inheritance.
Types of skin pigment disorders
Albinism – it is an inherited pigment disorder where melanin production is low and causes white hair, pale skin and pink eyes.
Melasma – It is dark brown patches appearing on the face due to over production of melanin. Pregnant ladies are prone to this disorder.
Pigment loss after skin damage
Vitiligo – white patches on the skin appear on the body due to loss of pigment producing cells called melanocytes
Treatments of these disorders range from avoiding the sun and using sunscreen and skin lightening creams to skin grafting.
Ayurveda and pigment disorders
According to Ayurveda, Pitta dosha is responsible for skin pigmentation disorders. One of the five pitta dosha, bhranjak pitta present in the skin tissue gives the skin its color, temperature and aura. Unhealthy lifestyle and poor dietary habits cause imbalances in the pitta dosha, resulting in skin disorders.
Ayurvedic treatments for skin pigmentation start by identifying the cause, pacifying the dominant dosha and modifying the lifestyle of the individual accordingly. The aim is to normalize the skin color and treat the known cause. Herbs such as haritaki, haridra, takla, manjishtha, amalaki, etc. are used to treat the various pigmentation disorders.
Tumblr media
Pigmento ointment – a treatment for vitiligo
This ointment is an effective formulation to treat vitiligo. It helps your skin return to its normal pigmentation.  In vitiligo, the immune system destroys the melanocytes, (the melanin producing cells) in the skin. It is a non-infectious disorder. Both genetic and environmental factors are said to contribute to vitiligo. It can be also caused by physical trauma, illness or emotional stress. Pigmento ointment, when applied on the skin, stimulates melanogenesis. It gives a soothing effect to the skin and relieves itching and burning of the skin caused by skin allergies. It is a safe and effective formulation and can be used in conjunction with ultra violet therapy.
It should be applied twice daily on affected areas. After application, exposure to morning sunlight, starting out with 2 minutes and gradually increasing to 20 minutes, can be beneficial. Ayurvedic physicians recommend consuming less spicy foods and avoiding meat, eggs, curd, kokam and tamarind.
It is an herbal formulation whose ingredients are effective in stimulating pigmentation of the skin.
Simple tips for healthier skin
Skin pigmentation disorder can affect your lives so much that you feel unable to face the world. Your self esteem and confidence decreases leaving you feeling depressed and lonely. Although a full cure is not possible, skin pigmentation disorder can be controlled and reduced. Below are some tips to help you.
Having a glass of warm goat’s milk mixed with a teaspoon of honey is said to be good for skin pigmentation disorders.
Fresh aloe vera juice when applied gently on the face, left for 15 minutes and washed off with warm water can help lightening the dark spots.
Fresh orange peel powdered and mixed with milk can help lighten skin discoloration. The mixture should be applied gently and washed off with warm water after leaving it on for 30minutes.
Applying cucumber juice on the face helps to reduce pigmentation.
Avoiding going out in the sun without a sunscreen will prevent skin diseases.
Drinking between 6 and 8 cups of boiled water daily will help your body expels toxins that harm your skin and lead to hyper-pigmentation.
Doing yoga will increase blood flow throughout your body thereby helping resolve age spots, acne and other forms of hyper-pigmentation.
Leading a life that is healthy and active with regular application of pigmento ointment ensures a body that is not susceptible to diseases and help you face the world more confidently.
