Okay but picture something like this as a season 3 opener: Malcolm is standing across from a bitter and bandaged Martin in his Claremont cell, he’s still badly hurt from where Malcolm stabbed him but clearly alive and clearly also a little cocky about that whole ordeal. They talk, Malcolm struggling to keep his voice level, but it inevitably leads to a heated argument and shouting and tears, and stepping over the line, at which point we leave Malcolm’s viewpoint and enter a guard or nurse’s or friend’s or all 3 out in the hall. They hear the shouts and rush in to stop it... revealing nothing but an agitated Malcolm all alone in the empty room, yelling at air. Cut to title screen. And we’re not sure if Martin is still possibly alive elsewhere at this point or if all that’s left of him is that small piece that will always be in Malcolm’s head.

Found-footage style episode but it’s Jack trying to film their lives for some intro-level film class he’s taking as an elective. It ends up being 45 minutes of following Cas around as he clumsily tries to give a tour of the bunker without exposing them (they spend 15 minutes on the kitchen alone. He goes through all of Dean’s spices). Sam keeps sprinting into the frame to hide suspicious/occult/supernatural things and Dean, who refuses to be filmed but keeps ending up in the same room as them anyway, occasionally shuffles through the background with his hand hiding his face like some sort of cryptid. Jack’s professor declares it a brave piece of art depicting the shame and scrutiny experienced by non-traditional families in America and gives him an A.
