Children of Serpent, Angel of Death, and...Shredder
Tumblr media
A little sneak peek of ShiniRai's next gen kids I'm working on. This is the cover and if you are wondering, yes Irrilia will be in it, but this story is mostly going to focus on my ocs, Yoshi and Amai but I will write a story of Raphael's children, maybe after this one...or Leo's. I don't know, we will see what happens. I don't know when I am going to start posting it on Wattpad, I want to make sure the story is right because I don't want to keep rewriting it, but I think I got the first chapter
...
CH 1
It was a long time ago. She was probably no more than three years old when she first discovered it. She remembers getting up in the morning, wearing a messy braid pigtail and purple pajamas with black kitten pattern. Her twin brother was still sleeping next to her, snoring away.
She was tempted to pinch his nose to wake him up but decided against it as she crawled out of bed. She could hear her Kaasan cooking in the kitchen as she slid open her bedroom door, but she did not hear her mother and her usual chatter, meaning she might have gone off to work early again.
Seeing an opportunity to be the adorable little mischievous she knows she is she went to her mothers' room and began to snoop around. The room was big, with a big king size mattress, the walls painted a dark shadowy purple while the bedding was a violet with a black vein pattern. No doubt her Kaasan's work. It even has a balcony. Her room has one too, but her room was not quit as big as this. It even has two closets. One of the closets she already looked through, and just at first glance, she knew it belonged to her Kaasan. There were dozens of expensive clothes, shoes, hates, gloves, and even glasses inside. There was also a box there too but considering her Kaasan, used to be an assassin, she knew better than to open boxes that belonged to her.
It was probably the only time her Kaasan ever truly got mad at her, when she opened her locked drawer which was filled with poisons. Her Kaasan had walked in and just started freaking out, scared her daughter would accidently pour it on herself as she was looking through them. So, after her near death experience, she makes sure not to open anything that was locked that belonged to her Kaasan but...what about her Mother?
She opens the other closet and at first, was a little disappointed at what she found. It was just a normal closet, filled with normal amount of clothes (unlike her Kaasan's) but as her eyes travel down the clothes, she notices a slight opening on the floor. Curious, she kneels down and takes off the floorboard, to see inside was a shoebox. She puts the floorboard aside before picking it up and opening it.
It was a box of old photos but...they were weird. She saw pictures of who she could tell was her mother when she was young, but she did not see her uncles or Jiji. There were only two other people she recognized and that was her Kaasan and Obasan. Everyone else she did not recognize. Not the two teens with the alfro or the gold chains. Not the blind man who looked to be quit intimidating. Not the other children that were wearing black ninja garbs and defiantly, not the last photo, of the scary man with the scared face. He is standing behind his mother, who looked to be in her teens, with his hands on her shoulders. They both were looking at the camera with serious, scary expressions but her mom, looked like she wished to be anywhere else. Why did they look so miserable?
She looks back inside the box and notices a journal, she opens it, but she can not yet read. Though she is a very smart girl and could read most words, she can not yet read sentences, so she puts it back. However, at the bottom of the box, she notices a key. She picks it up, wondering what it could be for then remembers her mother's shrine. Her mother had a shrine which she keeps in the dojo, with a picture of her Nainai, Jiji, and her mother when she was a baby on it. However, at the bottom of the shrine, were two cabinets which her mother keeps mysteriously locked. She has tried numerous of times to open it but never could because she could never find the key...until maybe now.
Sprinting out of the room, she goes to the dojo at the other end of the hall and slowly slides open the doors to make sure no one was there. Across the room, she sees the shrine and goes over to it, looking over she shoulder one last time before sticking the key in. She could not describe the excitement she felt when the key actually turned. Slowly, she opens it and once she does, her jaw nearly falls to the floor at what she had found.
Within the cabinet, was a weird looking skull. Or she thinks it is a skull. It sure looks like a skull. The bottom half did any why and it had normal sockets where eyes on an alive person should be, but the top half was misshapen and looked almost metal, with three metal parts sticking out, almost looking like some kind of crown. Unable to resist, she takes it out and looks it over curiously, trying to figure out if it is a real skull or some kind of artifact.
That's when she gets caught.
"Amai," A calm, level but secret furious voice had her frozen on the spot. She knew that voice, very well. She turns to see her mother, standing tall before her and glaring down at her sternly. Her mother is a tall Japanese woman with long black hair she was wearing in a high ponytail, light-skin and bright almost red-looking amber eyes which she had inherited.  She was also wearing a black body-length suit with a hood, which extends downwards to her knees, and a long green scarf that she uses to cover half her face.
"What are you doing?" Her mother asks and though she was trying to remain calm, Amai knew she was furious. "Nothing." She tries to hide the skull behind her, but she knew that was stupid. For her mother had already seen and it is not like her small form, could hide the large thing behind her back anyway. Her mother hardens her gaze, making her tense but she says nothing, just holds out her hand, singling her to hand the weird skull over. Biting her lower lip nervously, she obeys, and she watches as her mother puts it back before locking it and turning back to her daughter again sternly. "You are not to touch or go through my things, you understand?"
"I was just looking, Mama!" She lies. They both knew it was a lie. If she had just wanted to look at whatever was inside, she would have asked, she wouldn't have snuck around or taken it out in the first place, but it was just so hard to resist. Her mother though, was clearly not amused as she repeats, "I don't care. You are not allowed to touch or even look at my things again!"
"What even is it anyway?" She asks, curiously and she is caught off guard by her mother's reaction. She did not expect for her mother to still at the question. It seemed like a normal question to ask when you find something that looks awfully similar to a human skull in your mother's shrine but for some reason, it causes quit the reaction out of her mother. Her mother is a born warrior, who rarely shows much emotion, but right now, for some reason, her mother had stopped moving, stopped speaking, completely motionless, almost like a statue. The only thing that changes is her eyes, her eyes shifting to amber to a jade green as her pupils turn into slits.
She used to love seeing that, though she could do the same with her own eyes, watching her mother do it when she is trying to intimidate someone or scare them into giving her what she wants, was always so cool but right now...it was scary. Her eyes were moving back and forth, like they were trying to fight some kind of battle as they were train to only stare at the wall.
Her mother's weird reaction only lasts a few seconds before her posture and eyes turn back to normal. A normal person probably would not have notice it at all, but she did. It was rare for her to see her mother react this way. Only once does he remember seeing her mother vulnerable and that was when an old friend of her's died. Only something big could cause her mother to break but...what was big about that skull?
"It is none of your business," Her mother finally says, in a quiet but angry tone. Her eyes were not looking at her daughter anymore but to the side, as if ashamed to look at her after her few seconds of weak display. Amai does not speak or even move, not knowing what to do now. Suddenly, she regrets ever opening that cabinet. When her mother finally looks her in the eyes, she sees something in them, something that made her stomach turn and she is thankful when her mother says, "Go play, Amai and don't let me catch you doing this again."
She then turns to her, and the moment her mother dismisses her, she does not hesitate to leave, glad she was not going to face any punishment but something, causes her to look back when she makes it to the door. She sees her mother, kneeling in front of the shrine, and she swears but is not 100% sure, that she saw one or two tears roll down her mother's cheeks.
After that day, she never asks about the skull or weird pictures again, not wanting to see her mother cry like that ever, ever again. Her mother was the strongest person she knows, to see her act like that...it was terrifying.
However, she could not stay silent forever, especially when new things kept hidden in the dark, began to come out in the light.

TMNT Karai HeadCannons
Tumblr media
Since Karai was a child, she has always wanted to get closer to her 'father' (Shredder), make him proud, and crave for his love but he was very neglectful towards her and very abusive. Whenever Karai achieved at something, like a test or something, Shredder was never impressed. So, one day, when passing through the dojo, she saw Shredder practicing ninjutsu and thought that could be her way to get closer to him but he, of course, said no and that of course, only made Karai want it more. So, she trained behind his back, until she proved herself and got him to change his mind.
2. When Karai first asked Shredder about her mother, he did not say much, just told her how she died and the name of the man who killed her. She then asked, what her mother looked like, and Shredder could not find the words, so instead, he gave her the picture where he teared Yoshi out. Since then, she has carried it with her everywhere, even though Splinter had the whole picture, she still clung to the one that she already had because it was her only comfort growing up.
3. Shredder, mentally, emotionally, and physically abused Karai her whole life. He was determined to shape her into his perfect image, rid of all things he hated about her and turn her into his perfect weapon but Karai, never lost sight of her true self completely, at the end of the day, Shredder could never truly control her, no matter what he did.
4. I strongly believe, Shredder hired someone to take care of Karai. Like a nanny or something. (You guys seriously telling me, Shredder, evil, cruel Shredder, would change diapers, feed, and nurse a baby? Especially a baby that's not even his? Your crazy if you think that!) However, she was not exactly motherly towards Karai, she just did what she had to and that was that.
5. Since she started her training, Karai was always promised that the throne of the Foot and the legendary Kuro Kabuto would be her's but once she learned of the truth, instead of being given that honor, she steals it from the man she hates but after he dies, she wanted nothing to do with anything that reminded her of him, so eventually, she leaves the Foot and finds her own path.
6. Karai eventually changes her name back to Hamato Miwa. At first, she felt she was not worthy of the name, because she felt as though she dishonored her true family's name and that she was, in a way, still Shredder's daughter. She struggled with a little identity crisis but she eventually, works through it and discovers that she is, Hamato Miwa, the daughter of Hamato Yoshi and Tang Shen.
7. After her outburst, "I am. Not. Your. DAUGHTER!!!" Shredder lashed out and hurt Karai, badly, leaving a huge scar on her back.
8. Karai is bisexual. She kept it secret for many years, knowing Shredder would never improve and because of that, she feared what her friends would think but after Shinigami came out to her, and told her she loved her, Karai found the courage to come out as well.
9. Being locked up by Shredder, trapped in a body of a mindless snake, experimented by Stockman, trapped in his lab, and being controlled by a worm inside her brain that she could not break free from, Karai grew to have claustrophobia. Whenever she feels trapped or is in a small space, she could not help but freak out.
10. In honor of her father, Hamato Yoshi, Karai leaves the vengeance path. After almost blowing up Donnie and the incident with Tatsu, she finally understands what her father had been trying to warn her, and the cost of vengeance, so she leaves it for good and vows to never cross the paths of vengeance again.
11. There was a time, when Karai truly hated her mother. Somehow, she learns the whole truth of what happened the night before the fire and the relationship between her parents and...Saki. She finds out that before she was born, her mother had a secret thing for Saki while she was dating her father, and she finds out her mother was thinking about running away with him because she did not want her daughter to become a kunoichi. She also finds out that her parents were separated before the fire and that it was caused, by her father, putting all his time into the dojo, instead of his family. Karai hated them, all three of them, (Mostly Shredder) but really, she hated herself, blaming herself. For if she was not born, her mother wouldn't have even considered leaving her father for Shredder and maybe, her parents wouldn't have gotten separated. Perhaps, even her mother's death wouldn't have happened.
12. Even though Karai knows that Splinter is not Shredder, she still fears him, almost as much as she feared Shredder and she felt like she needed to make him proud, just like how she tried so hard to get Shredder to be proud, but this time, in her own way. She also, has a hard time believing that he loves her, just as much as her brothers...and April. She believes April is the daughter that Splinter truly wanted, the daughter he longed for. It was one of the many reasons why she resented April. She envied the relationship that she and Splinter had.
13. As Karai grew older, she decided to grow her hair out. When she was a child, she used to have long hair like her mother but one day, after a bad fight with Shredder, Karai cut her hair, making it as short as possible, just to spit him but also, to punish herself. However, after his death, Karai started to heal, and began growing her hair out, becoming her true self.
14. In the Foot, Karai had a team of teens of her own, a sort of rebellion. Shredder never allowed her to take on missions like Bradford and Xever, so she would go out and steal them. However, when she moved to New York, they were all left in Japan and when they found out of her betrayal, they grew to hate her.
15. Together, Karai helps her brother Leo rebuild the Hamato Clan. Not wanting her father's name or clan to be forgotten, Karai helps Leo anyway she can rebuild the clan that was wrongfully destroyed. It was tricky because they were mutants but eventually, they were able to do it, once the world finally accepted them. Leo eventually even opens a dojo of his own in New York while Karai, goes to Japan to atone for her sins as Shredder's daughter.
16. Despite Karai, wearing nothing but black, gray, and red, her favorite color has always been green. It was her comfort color because it reminded her of turtles. Since she was a child, she has always loved turtles but never really knew why. She would never admit it to her brothers though.
17. Like Splinter and Raphael, Karai loves art. She has a real talent for drawing and painting. When she was a child, she was isolated like her brothers, and Shredder's version of allowing 'fun' was very limited. So, all she could do on her rare free time, was draw.
18. In her early teenage years, Karai hit a very low point, but she survived. However, after all the new trauma she went through after learning the truth and after Shredder's death, she had nothing to distract her from her pain anymore so she would hurt herself. She would burn herself, so that way, she could shed off the dead skin and pretend like it never happened. Plus, it's fitting, since everything she loved went up into flames and so, eventually, so will she. (Unless her brothers stop her)
19. Karai did have a sibling in the Foot. A sister but they were not very sisterly towards each other. Like their fathers before them, they had a bitter rivalry. They were like fire and ice, but would their story end like their fathers'. Who knows?
20. Karai looks a lot like her mother. She has her whole face! Eye-shape, eyebrows, cheeks, chin, and lips. However, she has her father's amber eyes, his black hair color (Shen's hair just looks like a dark brown to me), his nose shape, and his skin-tone. (Shen's skin seemed lighter)
21.  Karai never had a crush on Leo. Yes, she thought he was cute but not in a flirty way. She was just trying to gain his trust and maybe try to turn him on her side because she liked him and did not want to have to kill the first friend she made since moving to New York. After learning the truth though, they grow to make a great brother-sister team and are like, best friends. (Sorry LeoRai fans but it's true. The LeoRai ship should never exist. Maybe not blood but same father, same last name, therefore siblings and plus, they would never work)
22. Karai actually liked that Raph still had a problem with trusting her and accepting her into the family. She was not ready to accept any forgiveness and she honestly could not understand why everyone was forgiving her. However, she soon discovered that Raph had already forgiven her and understood, he just did not know how to make things right between them. She also came to learn that she and Raph, out of her other brothers, are the most similar. They grew to have a more brother-sister relationship, but they still enjoy bantering each other.
23. Karai enjoys spending time with Donnie, especially when she might get a cool new weapon out of it. She likes that she and Donnie, can talk shit about anyone together and how they through sarcastic remarks at each other. She even helps him out with his troubles with April.
24. Like her brothers, Karai is protective of Mikey. However, she does let him get away with way more than the others. While Karai was not very known for her patience, she does have it, when it came to Mikey because she developed a soft spot for him. She helps him with his pranks and any kind of mischief scheme he came up with. She sort of became his partner in crime.
25. Every time she sees Casey, Karai wants to through his head through a wall because every time she sees him, he teases her on how she kissed him when she was mind controlled. Leo always has to hold her back from doing something, she would regret.
26. The reason Karai was jealous of April was not because she was targeted by the Kraang! (I don't know why people think that. It makes no sense.) No. Before Leo betrayed her, Karai would spy on him and his brothers, as well as his friends. She was jealous of April because she had a normal life, loving friends and a family who love her. Karai did not and when she soon discovered Splinter was her father, she was jealous that April had a closer relationship with him than she did, but she eventually gets over it, and they become on good terms.
27. April's tessen, was a family heirloom in the Hamato Family. It previously belonged to Karai's grandmother and when she was born, Splinter had his heart set on passing it down to his daughter, to keep the tradition alive. For obvious reasons, that did not happen, so he gave it to April instead and Karai was a bit upset about it, thinking her father did it to replace her but that was not true, and eventually she accepted she was just never meant to wield the tessen. However, when Karai had children of her own, April gave it back to her, saying if she has a daughter, then the tessen should be given to her, like it should have been given to her mother so long ago.
28. If Karai ever has a son, she would name him, Yoshi, after her father Hamato Yoshi. (I think this is everyone's cannon, right? Lol. It's either Karai or Leo who would name a son after their father. I think it should be Karai though.)

Things I would change in Shredder and Karai's relationship, and Splinter and Karai.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shredder and Karai
Ok, I'm going to start with Shredder. Frist, people like me, can obviously see that Shredder was being totally abusive towards Karai, in more ways than one and the thing I would change, I would change how we did not get to explore enough of Karai's childhood.
Am I the only one who, after watching the Lone Rat and Cubs episode, was like, "Huh, I wonder what Karai's childhood was like?"
I mean I get it, the turtles were the main characters, so we got to see their origin but, in my opinion, I think seeing Karai's origin, her childhood, would have helped and made up for all the things we don't know about her!
Like how did she become a kunoichi? How did she meet Shinigami? Did she have any other friends besides Shinigami? And we could have seen more of her and Shredder's relationship but nope! No. Karai doesn't get an origin or even an episode of her very own, no, she gets nothing but LeoRai. Barf!
So, yeah, I would defiantly explore more in Karai's life and her relationships in the Foot, mainly, Shredder and Shinigami. Sad as it would be, I would have liked to see, how neglectful, emotionally, mentally, or even physically abusive Shredder was towards Karai. And I would have loved, to see how she and Shinigami became friends, and get a little bit of Shinigami's story as well.
Another thing I would change, is Shredder's obsession over her. Shredder comes off way too obsessive and creepy, and I know you guys think I am crazy but, he honestly does come off as some sort of predator.
The way he says, "She's mine!" Is the same way, how he said Shen was his. It just feels like Karai was Tang Shen's replacement to him. I mean, honestly, I wouldn't put it below him because I truly believe Shredder is that evil and sick, but...no. No. I would have done it like Thanos and Gamora.
He still would not love her, just act like he did. At first, Shredder took Karai and kept her, because he wanted complete revenge of what Hamato Yuuta did to him and he wanted something to remind him of his victory, also a reminder of the woman he (so-called) loved.
In truth, Shredder hated Karai, and hated being around her. He would never speak to her unless absolutely necessary or when he punishes her. Every time he looks at her, he sees the face of the woman he killed, and she would also remind him of her father almost as much as she reminds him of her mother, which would just fill him with so much hate and disguised.
But then, when he saw Karai's potential, saw how useful and deadly she was, Shredder found a new use for her and so, he trained her as his weapon. A weapon he trusted most to get the job done. After that, Karai was almost always by Shredder's side. He still would see Shen or Yoshi in her, and when that happened, he would lash out, violently but he was slowly, shaping Karai into his perfect image and he hoped that soon, he would rid of all traits of Yoshi.
However, Karai was stubborn as her father was and she was fierce as her mother. No matter what Shredder did, Karai never lost herself completely, never gave him too much control over her. She was his perfect weapon, his favorite daughter, but she was never going to allow him to own her and her choices.
Last thing I would change, is that I would have not let Karai get captured by him so much! I am so sick of the whole, damsel in distress! The only one, I would keep is Vengeance is mine because I do like Karai's mutation and I think it's really cool, and different for her character. (Sucks that we didn't get to explore much of her mutation either)
Splinter and Karai
Ok, first thing I would change, is how these two have no relationship at all! Don't you guys want to get to know each other, make up for lost time?! Splinter, since episode two you have been saying how much you miss your daughter and regret what happened the night she died! Karai, you have been wanting your father's love and attention since we've met you, and you now have a father who is ready to give that to you! Like, what was the point of Splinter having a long-lost daughter if they were never ever going to spend any time together or have at least one episode of them, spending time together, like Splinter does with April!
When Karai comes back, saying she wants to rebuild the Foot and yadda yadda, I would want Splinter to one day check on her and then somehow, have Shinigami convince Karai to let him join on a mission.
They do some bonding, maybe a little bickering, and their father-daughter relationship start to grow from there.
I would have also liked it if Splinter got to tell Karai, how he met his mother and maybe a little background of his childhood.
Another thing I would change, is how after Splinter saved Karai from the brainworm, I wouldn't have let her fall. I mean, this man got a pile of steal metal pipes off of him, sending them flying when Shredder hurt Leatherhead and yet, he could not pull up his own daughter from falling down a drain? Give me a break!
No, I would have let Karai be saved and reunited with her family, and instead of going to Japan to get Shinigami, she stays with her family and calls her friend to come to New York because she will need her help for future battles.
Finally, the last thing I would change, is how Splinter does not help Karai through her trauma when she clearly has a lot. He probably just wants her to make the first step and come to him when she is ready, which I understand but I would have loved it, if Splinter helped guide her, like he always guides his sons in the right direction. Maybe telling her of some of the mistakes he made because when he first warned her of revenge, I swear, it sounded like he was speaking from his own experience with it.

Different Characters I think of when I think of what kind of Parents TMNT would be
Leonardo
Tumblr media
These are the different characters I think of when I imagine what kind of Father Leo would be if he ever had children and I am going to explain my reasonings. Let me know if you agree!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I imagine Leonardo as a father, I can see him being a strict, serious, and very traditional type of father who also tries to be understanding and is a very overprotective mother hen as well as caring. Like these three characters.
Simba, Tenzin, and Twilight are all men of duty, responsibility, and honor, and so is Leo. I can Imagin Leo trying to live up to his father's legacy, like Simba and Tenzin, and I can see him being all serious, and working hard on his missions like Twilight.
Sometimes that may get in the way of his attention towards his children but at the end of the day, his children come first and if they need him, Leo will be there in a heartbeat.
Agree or don't agree?
Tumblr media
Also if Leo had a wife, I imagine it would be someone like Chang'e from "Over the Moon" As graceful as a swan but fun and also competitive. Just wanted to throw that in there.
Raphael
Tumblr media
Different characters I imagine when I think of Raphael as a father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raphael, I believe, will be the perfect dad. A dad everyone wants. Like these three characters. He would defiantly be the overprotective kind of father, but he would also be understanding, loving, supportive, and a bit wise.
Raphael would be the kind of father who would put family and their safety before anything else, like Mufasa, Triton, and Vander. His temper may sometimes get the best of him, like Triton, but he tries to keep it under control, knowing that would not do any good. Instead, he tries to talk to his children and get them to understand, like Vander does with Vi.
Monalisa
Tumblr media
Characters I think of when I imagine Monalisa as a mom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Monalisa, I believe would be a loving but strict mother, who would contently teach her children about her culture and believes, like Neytiri and Pocahontas. She would also be a fierce protector of her children and harm anyone who dares tries to harm her babies. Like Neytiri.
She would understand and supportive, like Pocahontas, loving and caring, like Esmeralda but she will also be strict and fierce like Neytiri.
Donatello
Tumblr media
Characters I think of when I imagine Donatello as a dad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Donnie would 100% be a nerdy dad. He will be a tiny bit strict when needed to be, but mostly he is pretty laid-back and supportive. He will also be teachable, always teaching his children as much as he can. He will also protect and defend his children when he feels the need to.
April
Tumblr media
Characters I think of when I imagine April as a mom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
April would be a hardworking but easily stressed mom, who always has her children's best interests at her. She constantly nags and lecture, but it comes from a loving and caring place.
Mikey
Tumblr media
Characters I think of when I imagine Mikey as a father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You guys can disagree with me on this but I Imagin Mikey being the very wise yet very funny and goofy dad. He is not strict, but he does lecture and shares wisdom. He allows his children to find his own way and guide them along the way. Mikey feels that most lessons, are found through experience and mistakes. He is also very supportive and understanding.
Tumblr media
And if Mikey had a wife, she would be a laid-back, easy-going, wise, but rowdy and cool woman, like Kyoko.
Shinigami
Tumblr media
Characters I think of when I imagine Shinigami as a mother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Shinigami was a mother, I imagine her to be doting and loving to her children, always spoiling them rotten. She would be very motherly and would love being a mom, more than anything else in the world. Like Mikey, she is nowhere near strict and lets her children figure out their own way.
If anything, she encourages their mischievous and rebellious nature, and is always challenging them with games that teach them but also, entertains her.
And if you ever mess with Shinigami's children, she will always be quick to punish you for it. Even if it is a small insult.
Karai/Miwa
Tumblr media
Characters I think of when I imagine Karai as a mother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Karai was a mother, she would be a great mother but I, (and I am pretty sure all of us would agree) that she would struggle with it. Never having a mother herself and not raised by the best parental figure, Karai would have a hard time knowing how to parent.
She would be strict and a little distant from her children, as well as overprotective. She would try to be loving and kind like she always imagin her mother would be, but sometimes it would not go as plan.
However, despite her strictness, Karai's love for her children was undoubtably fiercely strong. She just has a hard time showing it but at the end of the day, she would do anything for her children, to keep them safe, even sacrifice her own life, like her own mother did before her.
So, what do you guys think? Did I pick the right characters for TMNT as parents or what?

TMNT 2012: Father Splinter 2 - Raphael
Tumblr media
I lot of people think that Splinter does not love Raphael and is very hard on him because he reminds him of Shredder but...you guys can not be more wrong.
Splinter does love Raphael, very much as he does his other children and the reason Splinter is so hard on Raphael is because he reminds him, so much of himself, not Shredder. Which I have explained a long time ago - HERE
Splinter, though it may not seem like, understands his hothead son better than others. Because he was Raphael when he was young.
I imagine Splinter and Raph having a completely different relationship than Leo. While Leonardo is open and honest with Splinter, the same can not be said for Raphael.
Raphael is very prideful and does not like to talk about his feelings, especially with his father. Splinter understood that well, he too, was too prideful for his own good sometimes. With Raphael, Splinter has to take a different approach, he either waits for Raphael to come to him or he annoys his son until he gives up on his stubbornness.
Tumblr media
Some people, (and I honestly think this is a stupid reason) think that because Splinter did not pick Raphael as leader and was so 'quick' on the decision that it proved Leo was his favorite.
Maybe that's what Raph thought but...no.
Frist of all, Leo is the eldest, the eldest is always expected to be family head or, in this case, clan head, unless proven otherwise. Second of all, and I have said this before, Splinter did not make that decision as fast as it first appeared.
As he said, "I only said that to tame your ego at the time, I knew even when you were a small boy, that you would one day grow to be the leader of this team."
Splinter raised and trained each of his sons, he knows all their strengths and weaknesses. He has been preparing for this day, when his sons wanted to go above ground and protect others, since they started their training. Yes, Raphael has great qualities of a leader as well, but when under pressure...
Tumblr media
You guys remember this? When Raph played leader for a day? Raph thought he could handle the pressure, but in the end, he was quickly proven otherwise.
Splinter probably predicted something like that would happen. That is probably why he was so furious with Leo when he handed over his leadership to Raphael. He did not choose Raphael as leader because he thought he was incapable but because he knew he was not ready.
Raphael does not thrive under pressure like Leonardo does. Usually, his solution to problems is to punch the thing that is making it, but Raph knew that getting angry and punching wouldn't work. When Mikey got hurt, that is when Raph froze and was completely at a loss of what to do. The pressure was too much, and he was so afraid for his brothers.
Raphael took on more than he expected, he was completely unprepared and had no plan. In that moment, all he could think about was Mikey. While Leo could put those emotions aside and focus on the mission, Raph could not.
Splinter knew this. He knew his son was not ready to handle the weight and he never wanted him to. He did not want to put it on Leonardo either but had no choice.
Also.
Raphael has his own burdens and demons to bear, and until he could solve that, he was not yet ready to lead anyone. Splinter did not want to put weight on his second son's shoulders, when he is struggling with enough already.
It was not because Leo was his favorite. It was just because he was better for the role. Leo can handle pressure and carry the weight, but Raphael can't, not yet.
Tumblr media
Out of all his sons, Splinter and Raphael are the ones who probably buttheads the most, for one, because they are so much alike and for two...
For Raphael, it's hard being the son of someone so great like his father and constantly feels like he is always letting him as well as his brothers down. For Splinter, he does not understand why Raphael, is constantly trying to prove himself and is so jealous of his older brother when Splinter is always saying how proud he is of all of them.
These two just suck at communication. They both are not good with showing too much emotion except for anger. They try but still.
In Raph's head, Leo's the favorite because Splinter trusts him more and Leo never gets in trouble but it's not that Splinter does not trust his hotheaded son, it's just that he does not think he is ready for the burden and Leo does get in trouble, just not as much as Raphael does because Leo is more cool-headed.
Raph thinks Splinter does not understand him, but Splinter does, and that is why he is so hard on him.
It's not that Splinter neglected Raphael or never shown him love, he has, it's just that Raph has normal child insecurities because he knows that he is the most difficult out of his brothers but really, all the turtles are difficult in their own ways. Raph's just more aware of his because it's easier seen.
And Splinter is only trying to protect Raphael. From himself. Splinter made a lot of mistakes in his youth but his biggest mistake was, losing his temper with Oroku Saki, not seeing the darkness consuming in his ex-brother until it was too late...
Splinter does not want it to be too late for Raphael, that is why he is always so hard on him. He does not want his son to live with the same pain and regret he did.
Raphael loves his father and deep down, he knows his father loves him too. He just got blinded by jealously for a while. However, at the end of the day, despite their arguments, Raphael always has his father's back.
"But-But it wasn't your fault. Shredder insulted you, y-you had no choice!"
"I can't believe you called him, if anything happens to Splinter-!"
"What choice did I have Raph?!"
"Leave him alone, Karai!"
"We'll never leave you, Sensei!"
Just as Splinter always has his.
"I understand you too!"
"No choice? I could have chosen to ignore him. I could have chosen to let his words wash over me, like a river, over stone. But I let him anger me. It was I, who turned his words into weapons."
"That's the choice, I made. What choice will you make?"
"Raphael, do you know what I do when I miss my love ones from the past?"
"No."
"I think about the friend and family I have now."
"It is Japanese for, "this means nothing"
"It-It isn't some magical chant?"
"No. The mantra meant nothing, just as fear means nothing. Neither of them has any power, except the power you give them in your mind."
"Whoa, that's deep! I think I get it, Sensei."
"Good. Now, do not tell your brothers. I might use that trick on them, one day. *Chuckle*"
(Too bad he never did....:(
Tumblr media
Despite what others may thing, Splinter and Raph have a close father-son relationship. It's just different than it was with Leonardo.
Splinter is always trying to be understanding with Raphael and guide him through his troubles, and Raphael, respects his father and looks up to him, so much so, that every mistake he makes, he feels like he is letting him down.
However, Splinter was and always will be proud of Raphael.
They may not be as open or as honest with each other, like Splinter and Leonardo, but they have a supportive and loving, father-son relationship.

TMNT 2012 Next Gen Characters - Grandkid order
Tumblr media
Name: Hamato Irrilia
(Irrilia belongs to @myrling-art)
Nicknames:
Princess (By Raphael)
Ria (Friends and cousins)
Gender: Female
Species: Mutant/Alien
Sexuality: Irrilia is straight.
Birthday: 4/19/2029 - Aries
Eye color: Orange Salamandrian eyes
Age: 16
Height: 6'0
Weight: 165
Home:
Occupation: Kunoichi of Hamato Clan
Origin:
Irrilia was the first born of the new Hamato family generation. When she was born, everyone was excited, not only because of the new cute member but because they never thought either of them would be able to have children with being mutants and all.
Raph and Mona gave them all hope, so when Irrilia was born, it was not too long when everyone else started to follow.
Irrilia took after both her parents, she inherited both their warrior spirits and could not wait until she became one herself.
However, that could sometimes get her into trouble. She is often trying to prove herself, leading her younger siblings or even her cousins on random missions.
Raphael, being an overprotective father, would be furious each time but also understand since he himself, would pull stunts just to prove himself. Monalisa would be understanding as well, since she knows the feeling of impatience but they both would still ground her for weeks if not months, depending on the danger.
Irrilia often feels held back, always wanting more but is not yet ready for it. As her parents always remind her, she has much to learn, and it sucked.
It did not help that she had her younger siblings looking up to her, trusting her world and abilities but Raphael, made Irrilia doubt, not in a bad way. He wants his daughter to be confident and be her own warrior, her own leader but she needs to know how to lead. Needs to understand that her siblings would do anything she says because they trust her, but she needs to understand the responsibility.
Leo often talks to her about leader stuff because he was the leader, but Raph has a little experience with leadership himself and he knows it is not something to play around with. It is a serious job and people could get hurt. He does not want Irrilia to make the same mistakes he did because she has a desire to prove herself.
He does not want her to feel the same pain of guilt of getting someone she loves to hurt because of stupid pride. He does not want her nor her siblings or any of his nieces or nephews to get hurt or killed either.
It is a lot on Irrilia, to be the eldest Hamato sibling, knowing that she has duty to her siblings and even cousins. Not only that, but to her clan as well.

Relationships
Raphael
Irrilia and Raphael often buttheads. Irrilia beliefs she can take care of herself and has a desire to be independent but Raph, is an extremely overprotective. They often argue, especially if a boy is involved but other than that, they have a good father-daughter relationship.
Irrilia is extremely close with her dad, she loves training and just hanging out with him. They also love the throw snarky remarks at each other and dare each other. Often how they settle a disagreement is challenging each other.
Raph hates it when he and his little girl fight, he tries not to yell or get too furious since he knows she is just a teenager finding her way but sometimes he can't help it. He likes it way more when they talk things out and try to see eye to eye. But when Irrilia is being too stubborn to talk or if Raph is being too stubborn to admit he was wrong, they head straight to the dojo, where they end up sparing and then after the match is over, they somehow end up talking.
Monalisa
Irrilia looks up and respects her mother greatly. However, because of that, she feels like she can not open herself up to her mother as much. Monalisa is a respected warrior of a whole alien military and Grandpa G'Throkka is always talking about how great she was when she was Irrilia's age.
Irrilia does not feel that great, though her grandfather and father both say, that she is a strong leader like her mother, but Irrilia does not believe that herself. If she was anything as great as her mother than she would not lead her siblings into danger.
Her mother was smarter than that. She got people out of situations, not cause them and because of that, Irrilia feels like her mother just would not understand her struggles. Even though Monalisa wants more than anything for Irrilia to talk to her about everything.
Like Raphael, Monalisa is fiercely protective of Irrilia, of all her babies and wants to know everything that might be troubling her children, and it is an extremely frustrating to her when her children do not talk.
But then again, Irrilia has always been more of a daddy's girl.
Thalos
(Thalos belongs to @bludinkdragonz.)
Irrilia and Thalos are very close. Thalos respects his older sister and is always following her lead without question. However, the two often bicker when Irrilia often has to remind Thalos to focuse and use his brain instead of brawn or if Thalos feels like Irrilia is being too bossy.
Thalos does not treat his sister like any other girl, if Irrilia or him spare or challenge each other, he does not hold back one bit, knowing she would hate that and he respected her abilities too much, to not test them properly.
He often treated Irrilia like, "One of the boys" which is why, when she is upset, he does not know how to act, especially in front of people. He nor Irrilia often talk about their feelings to each other but then brotherly instincts kick in. He does not give a hole speech, about how everything will be ok or any mushy stuff like that, he just says something that will cheer her up a little then moves on.
Thalos is also protective of Irrilia as she is of him, they always have each other's backs.
Ryu'El
Irrilia and Ryu'El are very close. Irrilia always cares for Ryu and he does the same in return. It is obvious that they love each other but their respective quirks have often given other people a different impression of their relationship. They always encourage each other during fights and often prove themselves to be each others' strength.
Irrilia is always looking out for Ryu and is always ready to listen to him when he is upset. Ryu pretends like he does not look up to Irrilia (and fears her) but he does. He just will never say it in words.
Al'Akay
Out of all her siblings, no one gets Irrilia furious than Al'Akay. Al'Akay is very lazy and likes to goof around. He never takes anything seriously and can act very dumb when he does not want to do something.
Y'Gythgba JR
Irrilia is very protective of her baby sister and often helps her out, with training or whatever. Irrilia knows that her baby sister looks up to her the most and tries her best to be a good role model to her.
When Y'Thba is always down or doubts herself, Irrilia is always quick to give her advice and encourage her.
Grandpa Splinter
Irrilia loves her Grandpa Splinter and respects him very much. Because she was the first grandchild, she is much closer with him than her siblings and cousins.
Since Irrilia was born, despite being a strict parent, Splinter loved to spoil his granddaughter.
And it is just awesome when he visits and Irrilia sees him scolding her father like he was still a child or when he tells Irrilia and her siblings' stories of their father when he was young. Often causing Raph to stand there, completely flustered.
Also, whenever Irrilia does something that reminds him of his own son when he was her age, Splinter is always teasing Raphael about karma and Raph pouts about it each time.
Grandpa G'Throkka
Irrilia does not get to see her, Sal Cammander as much as she likes because of his job in the military but when he does come, Irrilia is always the first to greet him.
She is always bothering him with questions about space, or the military or asking him to tell her stories about his adventures or even her mother's.
And G'Throkka is always happy to answer any of her questions.
Yoshi
Yoshi has always been...a mystery to Irrilia. When he was a kid, he used to be so kind and sweet but as he got older, he grew to be sullen and angry.
Irrilia understood why, after all, he did experience a great trauma, that could change anyone. Still, Irrilia has a good relationship with him. He is a leader, like herself and they sometimes talk to each other about the burden they both share.
Amai
While Irrilia may have a good relationship with Yoshi, she can not say the same for his twin sister. Like her brother, Amai is a leader too, but a wicked one.
When they were younger, Irrilia and Amai used to be like best friends, they rivaled each other but as they grew older, that rivalry grew and drove them apart.
Every little thing Amai did, just annoyed Irrilia. Like herself, Amai pulled reckless stunts but much more dangerous ones. She also liked to cause trouble and knew how to get out of trouble too.
Amai could get away with anything and only very rarely does she have to deal with the consequences of her actions and Irrilia enjoys those moments very much.
Raphael tries to get Irrilia to make up with Amai since they are family, but Irrilia has no desire. Maybe a small part missed her friendship with her cousin, but she is the one who caused them to drift apart in the first place.
However, the truth is, Irrilia envy's Amai, she always seems to know what to do, how to get out of situations, even the ones she puts herself in and not only that, but her father, treats Amai differently, then how he treats his other nieces or nephews.
He treats Amai like she is one of his daughters. Always looking out for her and Irrilia knows why, because she nor Yoshi have a dad of their own, so her father, uncles, and even grandfather try to fill that hole. But still, it made Irrilia jealous.
Lou
Irrilia loves her cousin Lou and is always sticking up for him when Yoshi yells at him over something. Whenever he and Yoshi argue, Lou runs crying to Irrilia, asking her for help.
Lou always includes Irrilia in whatever fun he, Yoshi, and Thalos are having and Irrilia is always happy to join.
Hana
Hana is always dragging Irrilia to join her, and the rest of the girls in her tv marathons and she is always trying to trick her and Amai to hang out, but it never works since she is not too good at sneaking, and she and Amai can sense it a mile away.
Irrilia also likes to spare with Hana and helps her gain new skills. Unlike her brother, Hana has a passion for ninjutsu and is always eager to learn, so Irrilia helps her whenever Leo or the others can't.
Jennika
Irrilia is always visiting her cousin, Jenny. Out of all her cousins, Irrilia very close with Jenny and goes to talk to her whenever she has the time.
Jenny just seems to know the answer to every problem and even though she sometimes gets annoyed, she always gives that answer to Irrilia and sends her off with newly fresh weapons that she invented herself.
Sofonisba
Irrilia adores Sofie and looks to her as a big sister. Even though Irrilia is the first born, the first grandchild, Sofie is the oldest. (Which I will explain, later. I changed Mikey's daughters' stories)
Sofie is extremely sisterly to anyone and it made Irrilia feel like she can let her guard down a little. They have always looked out for each other and Irrilia goes to her sometimes for advice on how to be a good big sister, since Sofie is so good at it.
Sometimes a big sister, just needs a big sister herself.
Plautilla
Irrilia and Plautilla buttheads every now and then. Like her brother, Al'Akay, Plautilla very laid-back and just loves to annoy everyone until they are at their breaking point.
Still, Plautilla is a tough cookie and can take any hit. Irrilia respects that about her and likes it when she sees a little fire in Plautilla's eyes when she gets mad.
Artemisia
Unlike everyone else, Irrilia does not underestimate Artemisia's abilities or skills. Despite her being naive, quirky and overall kind-hearted, she is very skilled, holds lots of potential, and has very good six senses.
Whenever Artemisia has a bad sense of something, Irrilia does not question or even bushes it off, instead, she believes her right away and takes cover.
Anyone who does not listen to Artemisia when she senses something is wrong is an idiot in Irrilia's eyes.
Elisabetta
Elisabetta is a very gentle and sanative soul, because of that, Irrilia tries to not get angry when she is around. Elisabetta struggles with anxiety and has very low confidence which Irrilia tries to help her with.
Elisabetta believes herself to be weak but there have been a few occasions when she has sticked up or even fought for her family.
It annoys Irrilia when her cousin can not see how strong she really is and she is determined to get her to see that, no matter how long it may take.
Miwa
Irrilia respects her aunt Miwa, almost as much as she respects her own mother, however, Miwa is a lot more fun. She used to steal candy for Irrilia when she was a kid and often helped her bully her dad.
Leonardo
Irrilia often asks Leo questions on how he became a good leader, how he handled the pressure of it all or will she ever be as good as him or her parents.
And Leo always tells Irrilia that she needs to find her own way, he cannot decide what leader she will be, only she can.
He even tells her embarrassing stories of how he tried to copy a cartoon character (And how admittly he still loves that said cartoon character)
Irrilia laughs and makes fun of him for it, but Leo does not take it personality and joins in.
Donatello
Whenever Irrilia has an injury, or trouble with homework, she goes straight to her uncle Donnie. Donnie is always happy to help with whatever, and he never tells on Irrilia when she gets hurt doing something stupid, instead, he tells her to tell her parents herself.
Michelangelo
It is always a party when uncle Mikey is in town. (Litterly) Every family gathering, Mikey is the one responable for deortaing and catering, and the oldest children of the family always have to help alongside their parents.
Mikey is always trying to throw his confusing wisdom at Irrilia whenever he visits. He is even worse than her grandpa Splinter with that, but it always ends up being good advice in the end (Once she figures it out)
Shinigami
Whenever Irrilia needs help picking a dress for a party or just needs someone girly, Aunt Shinigami she calls. Shinigami adores making dresses or helping with make-up with her nieces.
Lotus
Irrilia does not know her Aunt Lotus that well since she is always away on missions but when she is around, Irrilia finds her fun to be around.
April
It is always fun when Irrilia stays at her aunts April's house. April is always making sure that there is enough snacks for them, making sure that their having fun and is easy to talk to whenever needed.
Casey
Casey can be very annoying when Irrilia and CJ hang out, always teasing them about how the two are "Love birds" even though she nor CJ are flirting or do anything that say that they like each other.
Still, he is a funny uncle and fun to mess with whenever Irrilia feels the need for a little payback for embarrassing her and CJ.

Shredder's 'Love' for Karai
Tumblr media
You know, stupid people, think that Shredder and Karai's relationship was so great. That he loved Karai and blah, blah, blah.
But he didn't. Just because it seemed like he 'missed' her, does not mean he ever loved her. He did not miss her. He missed his deadly weapon. He missed the face that reminded him of the woman he 'loved.' He missed his trophy that he won the night that he killed Shen and defeated Yoshi. The reminder of the day, he avenged and rebuild the Foot Clan. He missed having someone to use against Hamato Yoshi. He did not miss nor loved her.
Shredder wanted Karai back, because of his obsession over Shen, revenge and the fact that Karai is useful to him in more ways than one. He needed her but he did not want her.
When Karai proves to no longer be useful to him, and he finds something else that is, you can not tell me that he would not kill her.
Tumblr media
Like how Thanos killed Gamora.
Oh wait.
He already tried.
Remember?
TMNT Super Shredder VS Karai (youtube.com)
Shredder tried to kill Karai. Now, you can say it was the mutagen, you can say whatever BS you can come up with but that to me, proved, that never loved Karai, amongst other things.
Shredder finally gave up on trying to get her back. He tried everything! imprisonment, manipulation, he even mind controlled her! Yet still, Karai broke free each time. He failed.
So when Shredder finally accepted that there was no getting Karai back, he got angry and saw her useless, so he killed her. Now, he might have felt a pin of guilt, just because he accidently killed Shen while trying to kill Yoshi but he easily got over it. He tried to kill Karai on purpose because she has proven time and again, that she is Hamato Yoshi's daughter and Shredder, wanted nothing more, but to kill the man he called brother.

RaMona's Fourth Child Name
Tumblr media
So, I was looking through names, playing around and I found this one name Alakay, which means, "Warrior with a prideful smile." So, what does everyone thing about "Al'Akay" for Raph and Mona's fourth child? I separated the A and L to make it seem more like a Salamanderian name.

TMNT 2012: Father Splinter
Tumblr media
LEAVE! SPLINTER! ALONE!
I have been reading these fanficts lately and the hate towards 2012 Splinter involving his love for his children...made me mad. I keep seeing things, like,
"Oh, Splinter favorited Leo and did not care about the rest of them."
Or
"He made Raphael feel so unloved and treated him so hard."
Or
"He loves Karai more than them because she is his bio daughter."
Or!
"Splinter does not care about Karai because he did not raise her."
Are you kidding me? None of this is true! Splinter 2012 is the best dad and sensei, and those who disagree, can fight me on it.
It is so obvious that Splinter loves and cares for his children, equally! He would die for them, he literally, died for them and did everything for them!
He never had a favorite. He never made Raph feel unloved. He does not love Karai more, but he does have a soft spot, like every father has with their daughters. And he does love and care about Karai, as much as his sons, he gets deeply depressed every time something happens to her.
I am going to explain the relationship with each of Splinter's children. Starting with, who everyone thinks is Splinter's favorite...
Tumblr media
Hamato Leonardo!
This is very common, and I can kind of understand why you guys think Splinter favorited Leonardo and loved him more, because they spent the most time together and had a deep trust for each other but...no. That theory is far off.
From the start, it was obvious that Leo was an 100% Papa's boy. He respected and idolized Splinter so much, and as for Splinter, it was clear that he put most trust into his eldest son, more than the others but not because he favorited him, because he knew Leo would always watch out for his younger brothers.
Which brings me to, why I think, Splinter and Leo are actually close.
Tumblr media
As we all know, Splinter reluctantly allowed the boys to go on the surface, after they guilt tripped him into doing so and after Donnie told him about April, with a heavy heart, he allowed his sons to save her, despite wanting them to stay in the sewers another year.
He chose Leonardo as leader without hesitation but in reality, it was a tough choice to make. The reason it seemed so quick, was because, well Splinter said it himself, he had already decided on it when Leo was much younger.
Leo does have qualities of a good leader. He is responsible, skilled, merciful, fearless, caring, can do well under pressure, and most of all...he is selfless.
What we all know and love about Leo, is that he takes care of others before himself. He is never ever selfish and though it is a great and noble trait, it is a trait Splinter slightly hates.
For one reason...
Tumblr media
One thing we all know about Leo...is that he would sacrifice himself in order to protect his family.
Tumblr media
Just like how Tang Shen had sacrificed herself to save her's.
I like to think that Leo, reminds Splinter of Tang Shen in some ways. I mean, it is clear that they both carried heroic and selfless traits but what scared Splinter the most about that, was that he knew, if it came down to it, Leo would sacrifice his own life to save another's.
No second thought. No hesitation.
We have seen Leo almost throw his life away willingly, time and time again. It no doubt scared Splinter.
I know he said, "When the world is at risk, it does not matter what you sacrifice...or who" but he said those words as a sensei, not as a father. It looked to me like he did not want to say those words at all but had to.
So yeah, I think that one of the reasons, why the two are close is because Leo carries traits of Shen that scare Splinter and he felt like he always needed to keep an eye on him and take care of him because Leo would not do it himself.
Leo takes care of everyone! His brothers, Karai, April, and even Casey.
But who takes care of Leo?
Clear answer - Splinter.
Because Leo does not know how to take care of himself!
He never confinds into anyone, unless pushed, never asks for help, and he never let his problems become everyone else's because he does not want to worry anyone. He hates being taken care of instead of the one caring.
That is how Splinter became the one Leo confinds in. He barely ever tells his brothers his troubles, because he does not want to worry them, but Splinter always needs to know what is wrong with his eldest son because he knows, if he does not, Leo would hold it in until he becomes too much to bear.
Though Leo is not the reckless type, he is reckless when it comes to himself and his health.
Splinter does not talk to Leo often because he is the favorite but because he worries the most about Leo. Leo takes care of his brothers and friends, but Splinter makes sure that Leo is also taken care of.
Tumblr media
Being Leader comes with a heavy burden, Splinter understands and knows that well, it is the one thing that Splinter and Leo have in common.
Being Leader is not an easy job, it is a stressful and life in dangerous one. One move, one decision, and the whole mission could fail, and Leo's brothers could get hurt.
His whole childhood, Leo's only mission was to look out for his younger brothers. When you are a single parent, like Splinter, usually the eldest helps out, taking a bit of a parenting role.
Mostly, a mom. lol. "What kind of trouble could they get into?" Leo mocked Raph when he tried to get Leo not to worry about Mikey and Casey.
Despite being fearless, Leo obviously worries about his younger brothers as well as his father often. Those worries no doubt spiked when he became Leader and saw how dangerous real missions are.
Leo no doubt had a lot of self-doubt and fears of losing his brothers, at failing them. Failure is not something Leo is used to, it was never an obtion for him because in his young mind, he convinced himself that he has to always be perfect. The perfect son, the perfect brother and the perfect leader.
When in reality, perfect is not a reality, only a wish that everyone has but never achieve. Splinter tried to dig that into Leo's stubborn head. That there are no wrong choices, just choices and some things are just out of one's control.
Leo was so determined to be the best leader he imagines himself to be that he did not listen at first but to Splinter and his brothers, he already was the best. Leo just could not see that himself.
As much as Splinter did not want him to be too overconfident, he did not want his son to be too hard on himself either. Yes, Leo still has much to learn, that is why Splinter is always training alone with him, because he needs to teach his son how to lead.
He constantly has to be a guide for Leonardo, until he was able to do it himself. As mature as Leo was, he was still a child, and Splinter wished he would have stayed that way, him and his brothers, but fate had other plans and now, Splinter must prepare them for the worst of the worst.
The first time that Leo complains about his role and how he feels like his brothers does not respect them, Splinter understands but he also needs to make Leo understand that respect, is not something one gets, it is earned, and it is not something any self-respected leader, should act immature about.
Splinter agrees that his brothers should respect Leo more, but he also understands that his brothers do not mean any harm and are just arrogant with the burden their eldest brother carries. That is until Raphael step into his shoes and saw for himself.
Though Splinter did not like that Leo handed over his role to his second son, it was probably the best choice to get Raph to realize why Leo is leader, why Splinter chose him, and understand the pressure that his brother is always under.
So, Splinter is not giving Leo special attention, he is just preparing him and helping him with his role as leader, until he was grown enough to handle it fully on his own.
Tumblr media
Leo can talk to Splinter about anything. There are never any secrets. (Except if he does something that he thinks Splinter would not be too happy about)
Leo also tries to know what is in his father's head, wanting to help him and make sure he is happy but Splinter, being too prideful, always has to be pushed in order to do so.
He held on to a painful heavy secret about finding out that Karai is his daughter Miwa for a long time, until Leo finally begged Splinter to trust him and to open up.
Splinter did because he did not want to make Leo feel like he did not trust him and he knew, Leo would not go tell his brothers, if Splinter did not wish him to.
Despite being a bad liar, Leo knew how to keep secrets. But after a while, he advice that Splinter tell the others.
So, I believe, while Splinter is constantly keeping an eye on Leo and is his guide, Leo is Splinter's voice of reason. Leo always seems to know what to say or what to do, to get Splinter to listen and not act so stubbornly (Which no doubt took years of practice, judging by how Splinter is stubborn as hell)
Examples:
"Sensei, we know you're trying to protect us, but we can't spend are whole lives hiding down here."
"Remember who you are! Hamato Yoshi!"
"Please, Sensei, tell me, trust me."
"I told you; he is too powerful! Even for me..."
"But Master Splinter, if the one time we could use your help, it's now."
So while Leo is constantly depending on his father to help him make the right choices with his leadership, Leo is also making sure that Splinter is not thinking too stubbornly or rashly.
Tumblr media
Despite Leo never purposely disobeying Splinter or going against his word, there were a few times when the two disagreed on something and when Leo claimed his father, all wise Splinter, was wrong.
Especially when it involved Karai.
Leo wanted nothing more than to help his sister and to save her from Shredder. Leo cared about Karai, despite everything she did, he knew it was not her fault.
The other brothers at first did not agree with him, still mad at Karai for everything she has ever done to them but they slowly realized their wrongs and was willing to help.
Splinter, however, was not. Not when Shredder could kill all five of them in an instant.
"Isn't it worth it to save your own daughter?" Leo tried to convince him and it had hurt Splinter, but still, losing all of his children, was too great of a risk. "I am not willing to risk your lives or my daughter's!"
Though Leo had agreed not to, he went anyway, showing that Leo was slowly growing into his own leader. (Proud of you Leo for that bit of rebellion:) )
Leo slowly but surely, started to let go of his father always holding his hand, and started to make decisions on his own without his father's advice or guidance or permission and Splinter...slowly started to let them go.
Splinter his always going to be Leo's greatest hero. Since Leo was young, he has always tried to be like his father (And Captain Ryan), to be wise and strong like him, but Leo is not like Splinter.
I believe Splinter was flattered that his eldest wanted to be like him but at the same time, I believe he did not want him to. He wanted Leo to be himself and find his own way.
As much as Splinter hated it when his children did not listen or disobeyed, he also knew that young one's must discover their own way, make their own mistakes and find out who they are.
That is why Splinter told Leo to follow his heart.
Though Leo is always going carry his father's lessons in his heart, he has learned to be his own leader and to make his own decisions.
And Splinter, is very proud of the young leader he became and knew he would be fine, as long as he had his brothers and friends, he would be fine without him there to watch over him.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, Splinter and Leo, have an open, honest, father and son relationship. It is not that Leo is the 'favorite', he just admires his father so much and Splinter is always just trying to help Leo.
And you know what, some siblings are just closer with their parents than others, does not necessarily mean that they are the favorite.
What do you think? Let me know! Raphael is next~

Origin:
Hamato Yuuta was raised and fought during the centuries war of the Foot Clan. He lost one of his brothers and his father to the Foot Clan so you can Imagine what that must do to a person.
His father died when he was only 17 years old and with no other choice, he became the next head of the Hamato Clan much sooner than he expected. No one expected him to know what to do, so the 'grownups' all gathered to come up with plans of their own to take out the Foot, but Yuuta came to them with a plan of his own, which helped stop the Foot and proved the others wrong. Even though young, Yuuta was far from a child because his father raised him that way.
Yuuta may be strict but his father, Hamato Sho, was much harsher because he wanted his children to survive the cruel war, but it affected Yuuta greatly as his role as a father. Yuuta was a better Sensei then he was a father. He was very strict and distant. He was not close with his eldest son Yoshi, the two were so different in so many ways that it was hard for them to see eye to eye. Yuuta was disciplined and too serious all the time while Yoshi was reckless and rebellious. Yuuta had high expectations for his eldest son, but Yoshi never seemed to be able to reach them.
(During the next war of the Foot, Yuuta's leg got badly injured, and he now has a limp in his right leg which did not stop him from carrying the son of his enemy home with him.)
Saki was a different story than Yoshi. Yuuta had no high expectations for him, and he always seemed to keep a watchful eye on his second son but not because he favored him, because of guilt. Whatever Saki wanted, Yuuta would get out of guilt for killing the boy's real parents, but he never stopped to think how that must have looked to Yoshi or his youngest son, Tetsumi.
Then, Akemi came. Yuuta never thought that he would have a daughter. After he and his wife had Tetsumi, they agreed not to have any more children because it was just too painful but when Akemi came into their lives, they just could not push her away.
Akemi was a very respectful and a strong young lady. She reminded Yuuta much of himself and so, Akemi was always by his side. Akemi was Yuuta's very trusted child. He could always count on her with whatever he asked. The only problem was that she did not seem to like Saki that much and he did not fancy her either but that was fine with Yuuta, as long as they did not cause too much trouble.
Yuuta only had one problem with Tetsumi and that was him not being interested in ninjutsu. Yuuta was not very strict about it because Tetsumi did not have many responsibilities, like his older children do.

Relationships
Atsuko
Atsuko was Yuuta's first and ever real love. When he was younger, he was supposed to have an arranged marriage but the person he was supposed to marry died by the Foot. Yuuta never really thought or even believed in love, only duty and responsibilities but that changed when he met Atsuko, a fiery, fearless and very strong young girl who somehow made her way into his heart.
However, as the years went by, the two started to argue a lot which caused their marriage to be held by a thread and it finally broke after the betrayal of Saki.
Yoshi
Yuuta was very hard on his eldest son while raising him. He expected for Yoshi to do the things he did and be like him, but Yoshi was nothing like how Yuuta was. He was daring and adventures, also very hotheaded.
Yuuta only wanted the best for Yoshi, to make him a successful ninja like he knows he can be. Yuuta sees so much potential in his eldest and he only ever wanted him to each it but what he did not know, is that it was the cause of Yoshi feeling constantly unloved and what pushed him away from his father, but it all fell apart the moment Yuuta told him the truth about Saki's origin, after the attack.
Saki
Yuuta constantly feared for Saki while raising him. He was the perfect child, always following orders but he constantly feared that his second son would find out the truth about his heritage.
So, whenever someone said that there was something wrong with Saki, Yuuta denied it and turned a blind eye, refusing to believe his son was heading down a dark path.
It cost him everything in the end. After Saki's betrayal, Yuuta immediately disowned him as his son but in his heart, he craved to grieve for the child he could not save.
Out of all the wrong, Yuuta did in his life, Saki was his greatest failure.
Akemi
Yuuta had a good relationship with Akemi, like Saki she never disobeyed, and Yuuta never had to worry about her.
She was Yuuta's favorite student, he loved training her and seeing her succeed every test. Unlike her other siblings, she showed complete dedication to her clan but that changed when, Miyamoto Usagi, another one of Yuuta's students, started dating her.
That is when Akemi and Yuuta first started arguing, Yuuta believed Usagi to be a distraction and he believed his daughter could do much better but Akemi for once, stood her ground and kept seeing him behind her father's back, that is...until Saki attacked.
After the death of her friend, the disappearance of her eldest brother, and the betrayal of her other eldest brother, Akemi stopped seeing Usagi and went back to her dedication to ninjutsu.
When she asked permission to go on a training journey, Yuuta immediately allowed her but sadly, he would not see his daughter again for a good fifteen years.
Tetsumi
Tetsumi was the one who stood by his father's side throughout everything. Even though since he was little, he made it clear he wanted nothing to do with ninjutsu, with Tetsumi being the only heir left and the one who stayed, Yuuta made him train in ninjutsu, so that when it was his time, his youngest son could take over.
Despite everything, Yuuta was proud of Tetsumi for taking on the responsibility without complaint, though a small part of him did feel guilty...
Tang Shen
Yuuta never knew what it was about Tang Shen, that made him soften up a bit, but she always managed to get him, to crack a bit of his armor, even for a second.
Her innocence's and kindness were something to admire but Yuuta was never fooled, for he has seen what the girl is truly capable of from within.
She had potential and it slightly bothered Yuuta that she did not want to train to be a kunoichi, but he respected her wishes, nonetheless. But when Yoshi announced that he was marrying her, well...for the first time, Yuuta was all but supportive of his eldest son.
Koji
Yuuta and Koji were kind of similar to how Leonardo and Raphael had been. The two brothers were always arguing over dumb stuff but still, Yuuta respected Koji and was even a little jealous of him.
Unlike him, Koji had the guts to stand up to their father when he thought something was unfair and he is the one who went out to try to change things, while Yuuta just stayed behind, following his father's way instead of his own, like Koji.
Mashimi
Yuuta did not hold much respect for Mashimi, for he was a lazy and very uncouth of a man. Still, with him being the only brother he has left, Yuuta tolerated him and welcomed him into their home after the death of their mother.
Sho
Yuuta very much respected his father, almost as much as he feared him. Yuuta wanted nothing more than to be like his father and to make him proud, but nothing ever seemed good enough.
Yuuta understood that his father does love them and is only doing what he has to do to make sure they survive the Foot Clan but still...it was hard.
Yumi
Yuuta cared about his mother very much and as soon as his father and brother died, he made sure that she was taken care of. He and Mashimi both as she grieved.
However, the two did have their differences regarding Yoshi and Saki since Yumi believed that an ugly revelry was soon to start but Yuuta ignored her each time.
Miwa
When Miwa was born, Yuuta was a very proud grandfather, though he was a little disappointed that she was born a girl, he still knew that she would make a strong leader to the clan one day.
That is until Saki took her.
However, when the two met, Yuuta immediately knew it was Miwa. For she had her mother's face as well as her father's eyes. There was no denying that she was his long-lost granddaughter, and he was very happy to see her again.
Then when he learned that she had been kidnapped by Saki and was raised to believe to be his daughter, Yuuta felt guilt eat him alive.
Leonardo
When Yuuta met Leonardo, he could already tell that he was a respected and polite young man. Honestly, he was a bit in disbelief that he was Yoshi's son.
Long story short, the two got along rather quickly.
Raphael
There was no denying that Raphael was Yoshi's son. When they first met, Raphael had completely lost his temper on Yuuta and that fire in his eyes, which he had seen before in his own son's eyes, told Yuuta immediately that he was his grandson.
Raphael did not like Yuuta, after learning how he had treated his father in the past and was very protective, when Yuuta asked to see his eldest son, Miwa by her brother's side.
But little by little, Raphael warmed up to him and Yuuta made sure to not make the same mistakes, he made with Yoshi with Rapahel.
Donatello
Yuuta was very impressed by Donatello. His intelligence amazed him. The things he can built and the things he has cured. Honestly, every time his grandson tells him a story about how he and his brothers saved the world with his intelligence, Yuuta ends up sitting and listening every time.
Michelangelo
At first, Yuuta was a little hard on Michelangelo because he acted so childlike. Yuuta would scold him, about acting more mature and grow up but then, like Tang Shen had done, his youngest grandchild, managed to get into his heart and he could no longer find it with himself to scold him anymore.
Still, when Michelangelo got babied by his son or siblings, Yuuta could not help but say something....but only when his youngest grandchild was not in the room.
Jotaro
Jotaro....is a good ninja and like his mother before him, he was Yuuta's favorite student, but he is just so...odd.
He made Yuuta uncomfortable, and he swears that Jotaro does it to him on purpose and knows he can not say anything because he did not want to upset his precious daughter.
(So, that Hamato Yuuta! How do you guys like him?!)
