I'm reading The Lost World (y'know, the Jurassic Park sequel) and I'm not even halfway through but I've already got complicated feelings about Richard Levine

(Also, the way he's handled in the book is honestly hilarious to me. And he literally only met these kids because he's teaching a class at their middle school as part of his punishment for an absolutely ludicrous speeding ticket???)

help a cat out!!

hi guys!! as many of y'all know, my cat is very old and very sick and i am very worried. i am currently at the vet and so far things aren't looking good. she hasn't been eating, it turns out she has jaundice, and may have a failing liver. they want to do more tests, but i can't afford it all right now.

i hate to ask like this but my cat means everything to me and i'm so scared. if anyone can spare anything, i would really appreciate it. even if you can't, please reblog and help me and my cat out

Alan/Sarah or Alan/Ellie - help

Okay, so serious poll of the day (I mean, sort of):

I can’t decide! When I think about Alan and Sarah meeting, I can’t imagine them not hitting it off immediately! Think the two of them comparing scars over beers in a dirty bar (ala Jaws - there might also be singing involved). 

But my traitorous shipper heart has loved Alan and Ellie since I was a kid  - the 16-year age gap does gives me pause! Plus breaking up Ellie’s marriage (in both universes - yikes!). 

Opinions/headcanons wanted! What do you think? I’m mostly going from the book universe, here, but all shippers welcome.

To bring up a random point of no relevance whatsoever, in The Lost World novel I'm pretty sure Levine eats nothing but candy bars the entire time they're on the island. At least, if he does, I have no idea when. And he was there, like, two days. I mean, I like candy bars, but that is next level.

Peas in a Pod - ian/richard fic tease

Another little fic excerpt, some (fairly gen) ian/richard. So much headcanon, so little time... Also: I would love a beta reader (is that a thing people say? I haven’t written fic since the early ‘00s). Volunteers? I can pay you in ficlets. 

In the beginning, Levine had simply worn him down, doggedly pursuing him across the Santa Fe Institute’s sweltering campus. His jumping days really were over and he found himself thinking if I can just get him to sit down with me, I can make him understand, snap him out of it, get he out of my hair. But, at that first lunch over beer and tacos, Richard’s youthful, beaming face conceded nothing more than a little hero worship.

Ian finds himself eating lunch with Levine almost every day. It goes like this: Ian comes out of a lecture hall or a laboratory or a colleague's office and the Summer Fellow is somehow there, walking out of the adobe brick coffee shop, making frantic notes on the ledge of a blooming fountain, always - of all things - surprised to see him. Like a broken record, Levine would repeat his pleas: “Dr. Malcolm, consider this: the coelacanth…” and Ian falls for it, winding himself up with righteous indignation. Ridiculous. Preposterous. Absurd in the extreme. He thinks these things aloud until they’re seated at a nice place within walking distance of the institute, the only indication that they’ve arrived at a restaurant the polite “Sir, if you could please keep your voice down…” from the waitstaff. And yet something still tugged at him. Ian finds that an ever-increasing percent of his actions are executed with the motive of showing Levine he’s wrong.
