there was a great study a few years that went into the whole "ppl online are bigger jerks than irl cuz theres a virtual wall and no repercussions" and the researchers were expecting to see that be the case but it turns out that people who were really angry or argumentative online were also found to just be assholes in person and people who were pretty patient and nice online were found to be patient and nice in real person as well

and it just debunked that whole cynical idea that people will naturally be mean if theres no punishment for it

One of the major dividing lines of our age is between those who think it's worthwhile to cooperate and work with other people, accepting their flaws and limitations, to build something larger than ourselves, and those who think everything is fundamentally hopeless and that other people are corrupt, degenerate, and suspect. Literally cannot emphasize enough that my #1 writing advice is to stop being afraid. Stop being afraid of sounding too cringe, or too stupid, or too horrifying, or too horny, or too weird, or too much, or too little, or too you. You need to put your entire pussy into your art. Sure, it won't be to everyone's tastes, but if you keep yourself to the blandest tamest safest roads possible you will be of no one's tastes, not even yours.

One sad side effect of big box stores is that you just don’t get lifelong hyper fixation guy access like you used to.

Like yeah I can go to Menards and buy a door.

But it used to be I could go to the door store, and speak to a man whose sole passion in life was doors and who would talk about the history of door insulation patterns over the last 50 years without stopping to breathe.

That man is gonna find me the BEST door option for me.

Seriously my neighborhood had one of these. They were across the street from the lighting shop owned by the guy who could tell you the exact date, off the top of his head, that your property got electrical wiring based on your address.

Now these guys rarely get to own a shop, make a good living, and sell the very finest doors for decades. They’re relegated to Reddit posts which are informative but ultimately do not replace door guy having a door shop.

I don’t want to talk to some miserable, underpaid 20 year old who was in plumbing last week and in doors this week and doesn’t know a hammer from a hanger.

I want my door guy back.

Kelrath enjoys spicy food but he doesn't go out of his way to make it spicier. If we're looking at a scale of none, mild, medium and hot, he probably goes for medium.

Kelrath probably hates super sugary cereal and most birthday cakes that are super sugary.

🌭 hotdog or hamburger?

Kelrath out here subverting all expectations by preferring a hotdog over a burger. Likes them with spicy brown mustard, onion, and relish

Miso or french onion

coffee with a triple shot of espresso or tea, depending on how he's feeling. For cold drinks he prefers water. For alcohol he likes a Jack and coke.

Kaethan:

Kaethan puts hot sauce on his eggs, he grabs the toxically spicy kind of chips from gas stations. He barely flinches when it comes to spiciness. (similarly he also likes sour candy)

Kaethan isn't super picky, there's very few things he dislikes. Probably not a fan of anything he has to crack open like crab legs or mussels. He'd eat the meat though, he just doesn't like the process

Apart from being on stage, Kelrath likes being around places at night, especially in cities. Likes roaming the streets or the waterfront. That's also prime hunting time when he's looking for a kill.

28. how do they show that they care about someone? how do they express that they don't like someone?

It's hard to tell when Kelrath "cares" about someone, it's so rare that I don't think he even clocks it himself. The best way to tell is if he doesn't express outright disdain and you'll know it when he does. Kelrath doesn't really conceal his dislike. He'll speak in a belittling manner or outright insult people. Or he'll just kill them. So if he hasn't done that to you and he's keeping you around then he either sees a use in you or you haven't pissed him off yet and maybe he's a little bit fond of you. It's pretty easy to lose that status with him though. I think his mother, Gortash and Kaethan were really the only people who were/are closer to the "caring about" category. Going out of his way to protect or keep them from harm, assisting with things he technically doesn't have to help with that aren't life and death. Spending time with them without needing a reason. Making them meals or bringing them gifts (these tend to be more practical in nature).

30. do they smell like anything notable?

Kelrath smells like the clove cigarettes he smokes (Djarum blacks), his shampoo and (if you get close enough) probably his laundry detergent; he's very fastidious about caring for his hair and having clean clothes. His shampoo and detergent tend to have notes of cedar, bergamot and jasmine.
