Hell o evryone. Do you ever lose an ask? I lost one of my asks. Somebody asked me what the Road Trip AU was and I couldn't find the ask when I went back for it. It's been haunting me for two months. So, as an apology to the person who gave me the ask, I will answer the question along with dumping my concept art all over the darn place.

What is the Road Trip AU, aka, Octonauts: Road To Nowhere? (Name still pending) Well. It is kind of hard to explain, but it is kind of a personal Au I made for myself, I do not share the contents of it because it is a Vent AU and contains some graphic material and dark subjects. The purpose of it is less to tell a story and more to articulate my feelings and current state of being in the way I'm the best at: Visual storytelling. I project little bits of myself and others in my life into each Octonaut, primarily my fave 4 (Kwazii, Shellington, Dashi, & Tweak) and put them in these specific scenarios to express myself and deal with my situation in a way I have full control over and can look at aspects of myself as an outsider. So that's why I have only previously brought it up here once; it is a personal au with dark subject matter, and I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable.

The premise/beta synopsis goes as follows:

After a multitude of accidents, the Octonauts have their funding revoked and go bankrupt. With nowhere to go, they are forced to seek a new life, as they drive across the country, searching for an opportunity to make a living for themselves. But things take a turn for the worse as their situation gets increasingly dire - forcing them to face each other through their desperation. Will the Octonauts find peace or does their journey truly lack a destination?

The story centers around Kwazii, Dashi, Shellington, and Tweak. Each have a different coping mechanism to deal with their stress and loss of their previous life as an Octonaut.

Also Kwazton and Twashi are happening in this AU lol

Kwazii- an Adrenaline-seeking, impatient cat who was used to the chaotic and thrilling day to day life of being an Octonaut is now exceedingly depressed out of boredom and grief. He uses his mind to mentally escape seeking progressively intense stimulation, eventually reaching a point which he is imagining intense sexual and violent scenarios on a day-to-day basis, dissociating from the rest of the world on his part. This leads to sexual and general frustration as he emotionally secludes from his crewmates to continue to live out his fantasies on repeat; he feels there is no escape from this hell other than his own mind- or, his backup plan- ending his suffering by his own hands.

Shellington is a people pleaser- he doesn't want anyone to be upset at him, he doesn't want to confront or be confronted. His way of coping is victimization- thinking of himself as this victim, in any and all scenarios, even if he did something wrong. This allows him to feel that everything around him is inevitable, that he has no control, which he finds comfort in. He has a disdain for Kwazii as Kwazii's not the person that he got together with- he's completely different in every way. He wishes to break up with Kwazii but fears what Kwazii will do to himself if Shellington does- due to a threat Kwazii made to him a while ago. He also judges Kwazii for his coping mechanisms and doesn't think Kwazs's mental health is an excuse.

Tweaks way of dealing with her situation is Apathy- it doesn't matter, nothing does, so what? She felt if she stopped caring, it won't hurt as much. So she stopped. She repressed her emotional investment toward her crew to the best of her unconscious ability. Parts of her wish to revoke all emotion from the scenario and look at it solely analytically. Telling herself it's likely temporary and she will get through it. She is very direct and confrontational, which can be a good thing at times, but she also hurts her crew with her bluntness at times. She says things that she maybe shouldn't, speaking out of turn, saying how she feels even if those feelings could deeply upset her friends.

Dashi wants to be the supporter friend. She wants to be the glue that holds everyone together. She wants to be there for everyone, and she wants them to stick with one another, be strong, and get through this! But it's proving to be exceedingly difficult. Her coping mechanism is faith, hoping if they push through, reach a little further, they'll make it to the other end. But it's difficult to find a good living situation for eight separate people. As much as they financially support and depend on each other it also holds them back. She knows they're essentially homeless; so she clings to her past; oftentimes going through her old photo albums, watching old recordings, reminiscing the times the her friends had before they fell apart. Oh why, why, couldn't things be the way they were before? Why?

This is an unnamed nurse character for an RPG concept I'm cooking up just for the fun of it. The concept is, "what if there were tiny people living in a kitchen fighting the pests that also lived in the kitchen?"

Her entire medical team was mauled and she had to stitch herself up on her own and she joins your team to get her revenge on the pests.

Like I said, just for fun and not a project that's in production and will likely never reach production.

But I wanted to share since my blog is kind of being slow on updates and stuff so yea!

I'm postponing the upload date of the next chapter to April 30th, I'm sorry everyone!

It's been that I've been experiencing burnout when it comes to The Octonauts, burnout that is stronger than any other Octonauts burnout I've ever had. I also have other personal and academic goals in life, such as working on my own projects and getting my grades up. I also have several tests coming up.

This does not mean I will stop working on The Eighth Sea altogether. It is still in production and I am still making progress for it.

A struggle with smooth animation that people often have is with the pacing. The last animation is a good example for this.

Slow-in and slow-out is known as the most important principle of animation, because its what makes your animationed characters and objects look alive, or real. It is making sure that, in between your keyframes, you have some inbetweens that are close to each keyframe, and then a few that are far in between. Like this ball!

For the last example, the inbetween frames have no sense of "slow in" or "slow out". They go at the same pace, with the lines drawn exactly inbetween the frame before it and after it for each frame. It gives it this stiff, robotic look and makes us feel kind of uncanny. If he had stayed in his keyframed positions for half a second, and then quickly moved to the next position, using a few slow frames that are near each keyframe to ease us into it, the animation would vastly improve. He's animated more like this:

Even the second to last one practices slow-in and slow-out, it's just animated at a very high frame rate and there are so many unneccesary frames that you could cut half of them and get the same motion done.

Anyway I wanted to talk about this phenomenon because I like to animate smoothly and it can be easy to fall into this if you don't keep slow-in and slow-out in mind. Eventually, though, it will become force of habit.

The next time you want to call a sequence “Well animated” do yourself a favour and rewatch it with the sound muted. Often times ir’s only after you remove sound from something that you can truly see if the animation underneath is actually good or not, or if the music/acting is manipulating you.

….but on that same note, “Well animated” does not mean “Fluidly animated”. Because something can be VERY well animated and have few frames if those frames are in the right place, or have a shit ton for frames and be badly animated because it’s over-animated and moves way too much.

Ok. 1. There is absolutely no actual proof of that, it is quite literally a headcanon and people have different headcanons

Anyway, I'm sick of people comin' over with their headcanons and acting like they're canon to shame other people for liking ships that they don't. Either that or they hear it from a friend or don't bother to do any research in general. None of the Octonauts even have actual confirmed ages. They are all CLEARLY adults, other than the Vegimals. So, the infighting and shipping wars certain fans try to lob at each other are really embarrassing and always loaded with misinformation. I have seen people say that Kwazii is SEVEN, or that Min is THIRTEEN. To argue against shipping. And its like, where did you pull that number out of? Your ass? Anyway, that's all I wanted to point out. Shipping wars in Octonauts is a waste of time. Unless if someone is shipping something that is straight up illegal, it is useless to "call out" an Octonauts ship when all the characters ages are just vaguely labeled "adult".

I fuckin love dashton. I used to think it was not that great because a lot of Dashton shippers in 2020 were highkey toxic. (And before that- just READDDDD the fucking comment section on Dashis wikifandom page omg. Its insane.) But that has died down so now I get to finally enjoy the ship for what it is. Cute, sweet, wholesome bebes. Thats what Dashton is.
