Say what you will about the inconsistencies between the first Thursday Murder Club book and the movie - the thing that bothers me the most is it ruined the sense of community.

Just in the first couple of chapters in the book its mentioned that Ron and John helped nurse a fox back to health and Joyce helps put out chairs for meetings. Little things that shows that everyone's looking out for each other - thats the heart of the book.

The movie seems to focus on the spectacle of a big stately home it insists on calling an old covent (though what nuns would've lived THERE im not sure), big umbrellas and golf carts. It feels much more like a hip vacation spot than the sleepy cluster of houses I always imagined.

Reading the book again after watching the movie feels like settling back in to a little cosy community, where the ghosts nuns haunt the halls and people place big screens over others jigsaws to keep them safe. I dunno man it just didn't hit the same.
