FALL in LOVE with FALL

FALL in LOVE with FALL
As the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer, Mother Nature begins to paint some of the most amazing pictures with beautiful reds, yellows, oranges, and browns. Whether it’s corn mazes, leaf peeping, or long walks along the edge of the creek…the wonders of nature are all around us. Fall is definitely one of our favorite seasons, time for cooler temperatures and warm traditions.
Even though the official start of the fall season doesn’t come until September 22nd, we’re looking to celebrate early this year and kick-off our 4th Annual FALL PHOTO CONTEST. Submit your favorite shot that captures the “…feeling of fall.” This year, we’ll have three separate categories:
- LANDSCAPES & PLACES
- PEOPLE & ANIMALS
- SPORTS
Contestants will be entered for the chance to win in each category as well as an overall, “Best of Show” winner. The top photos, as voted by our distinguished panel of editors and judges, will be featured on our BEARPAWstyle.com site as well as our FACEBOOK,TWITTER, INSTAGRAM, and PINTEREST pages. Each winner will also receive a FREE PAIR of BEARPAWBOOTS to keep them warm as the temperatures start to drop. Winners will be announced on or before October 21st of this year. All entries must be submitted no later than Tuesday, October 15th at 11:59 pm.
To enter, simply post your favorite shot on our FACEBOOK page and tag it with your name, date, place you took the shot, and the category. While you’re there….don’t forget to LIKE US and leave a comment or two. Please make sure that the photo you submit is your own and that it not a violation of any copyright laws. We’ll upload all the entries to an album, “BEARPAW 4th Annual Fall Photo Contest”….as well tweet them with the hashtag #FALLinLOVEwithFALL. ...Creative Expressions by BEARPAW Launches with C.A.N.V.A.S. Project
JANUARY 29, 2013
BEARPAW’s Creative Expressions C.A.N.V.A.S. Project
One thing I love about BEARPAW is that they are always trying to find ways to support communities all across the country. Their latest endeavor is “Creative Expressions by BEARPAW” which officially launched January 16th. Through collaborations with individuals and communities throughout the year, the campaign is a celebration of self-expression and individuality through artistic expression.
“We’ve always considered our company to be an incubator for creativity. At BEARPAW, we encourage our team to bring innovative concepts, designs and ideas to the table and as a result, we’ve kept the brand ahead of the pack,” … that’s from Randy McKinley, VP of Global Marketing and all around nice guy.
To kick off the Creative Expressions campaign, BEARPAW launched the C.A.N.V.A.S. Project which stands for Creating a New Vision at Schools. “We see this as a way to help and support the arts in school, which has seen tremendous cuts over the past few years.” Randy explains, “We also hope to expose these students to the footwear industry…an industry they may not have thought of before as an opportunity or vision for the future.”
Here’s how it works – schools are chosen from a pool of nominees each quarter, the first being Spring-Ford High School in Royersford, PA. Then BEARPAW ships the Emma Boots to the junior and senior students in the art department where they can let their creative juices flow and design the boots however they wish. As you can see, the results so far are pretty amazing.
The completed boot designs will go on the road with BEARPAW to major trade shows in Las Vegas, New York, and Salt Lake City. This first set has already been showcased at the Outdoor Retailer Trade Show this past week and the reaction so far has been phenomenal.
“It’s an unbelievable opportunity for students to creatively express themselves without limitations! This is another way BEARPAW is getting involved with today’s younger generation and it also introduces them to the footwear industry. You never know these could be young footwear designers in the making.” Jennifer Craig, Associate Publisher: Footwear Plus Magazine.
After the shows, the boots will be auctioned off at the upcoming Art Show and all the proceeds will go back to the art department for supplies and materials.
Artistic expression is in the air at BEARPAW. A little birdie (wearing the cutest pair ofBEARPAW Marissa Boots) told me that there’s another art project coming up soon. Shining a spotlight on up and coming artists, the Home Grown Project will allow local artists to show their talents on a national stage. Stay tuned!

BEARPAWstyle.com: Kick A$$ Nachos That Won't Stick to Your A$$.
JANUARY 20, 2013
Kick A** Nachos That Won’t Stick to Your A**
We love junk food here at BEARPAW Style. The problem is … junk food does not love us back. We always hear about food substitutions, making better choices, blah blah blah. But when those better choices taste like cardboard, or if you feel that the person who gave you the recipe could suck the flavor out of salt, healthy choices seem like a rather harsh mistress.
Here’s to eating healthy food that doesn’t suck. It’s game day. Let’s chow on some nachos!!!!
First, let’s talk about cheese. I love cheese. I’m using the word ‘love’ in my feelings about cheese. Munster? Yes. Harvarti? Now you’re talking. Swiss? Oh baby, talk dirty to mama. But the thing is, I’m allergic to dairy because life isn’t fair. And have you ever had vegan cheese? I’m pretty sure it’s eaten by people who hate their lives because I can’t stand it.
Then I discovered a recipe for cashew cheese from one of my favorite restaurants, Real Food Daily …
[CUE ANGELS SINGING]
Yes. Oh my … Let’s make some nachos. With guacamole … because we’re feasting!!!
Ingredients:
Blue corn tortilla chips (or any tortilla chips that fix your fancy)
For the cheese
1 1/4 cups raw cashews
1/2 cup nutritional yeast
3 tsp onion powder
sea salt to taste
2 tsp garlic powder (you can also use crushed garlic and add basil if you’re eating this as a veggie dip, and you don’t plan on making out with anyone later)
dash of white pepper
3 1/2 cups of unsweetened almond milk
2 ounces of agar flakes
1/2 cup grapeseed oil
1/4 – 1/2 cup of yellow miso
1 lemon
For the guacamole
4 medium sized avocados
2 vine ripe tomatoes
1/2 red onion
1/2 lemon
1/2 lime
salt
pepper
garlic powder
cayenne pepper
Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
Let’s start with the guacamole. Pop out the seed and spoon avocado into a large bowl. Use a fork to mix. Coarse chop your tomatoes and add to the avocados. Mix until chunky.
Squeeze the juice from the lemon and lime into the mixture. Mix slightly.
Add your spices to taste. Set aside, and try not to drool over how good that is.
Now for the chips. Arrange them on a baking sheet. Shove into the oven. Try to contain your excitement. Cook for 5 – 8 minutes, depending on your oven.
Now for the cheese. Using your blender or food processor, grind up the cashews to a fine powder. Add the nutritional yeast, onion powder, salt, garlic powder, and white pepper. Make sure everything is blended well.
In a saucepan, mix the almond milk, agar, and oil. Simmer and then lower heat and cover. Let cook until the agar flakes are fully dissolved (around 8 minutes). Pour this mixture into the blender or food processor slowly. Once it has a creamy texture, add the miso and then the lemon juice.
HELLO, I’M NOT SHARING THESE …
Take out the chips. Arrange on a plate. Pour the cheese all over them.
Fight off everyone trying to eat them before you add the guacamole.
Spoon the guacamole all over. Sprinkle with some chili powder. If you want to be daring, add some sliced jalapenos.
Decide if you want to share. No will blame you if you don’t.
Now you can hoard them, and ask everyone: What kind of cheese isn’t yours???
NACHO CHEESE!!!!!!!
Enjoy!

Ringing in the New Year: Night & Day
There are exactly three times in a woman’s life when she can dress to be absolutely daring and when daring is expected: Halloween (Get out yer slut costumes, ladies! It’s not you … it’s yer costume!), your trip to Las Vegas because you must play the slots while blurring the line between what is and is not an appropriate showing of your underwear in public, and New Year’s Eve.
If you’re a BEARPAW girl like Star Alexander and I though, we like to dare more with our makeup than our undies. Here’s a look at what we’ll be wearing tonight for the parties in LA …
Bring on the sparkly eyes and faux lashes for the New Year’s parties. The lighting is perfect for glitter eyes and luminous skin. Here, Star applied a light layer of eyelash glue to my lids and then applied Make Up Forever’s Glitter #11. To add a touch of color and drama, she lined my lower lid in Urban Decay’s Vice Pallete Unhinged shadow. And while I wish those were my lashes, alas, they’re falsies fromNigel’s Beauty Emporium, Criss Cross Black Flared Lashes.
Star Tip: The key to applying false eyelashes are from the outside in! That way they won’t stick you in the inner corner of your eye.
For Star’s look, she mixed up her upper and lower eyes as well. Using a bold color on the bottom only brightens your eyes and makes them look bigger, Star suggests. She created her look using Urban Decay’s Vol. II Palettecolors Jinx on the bottom and Muse on top. I kept the lips soft because the eyes and outfits are more dramatic. Think soft apricots and shimmering pinks for New Year’s Eve. Plus, if you kiss them off, you won’t look like road kill at five minutes after midnight!
Star went all out with her one-shoulder gold sequence dress, and I went for a flowy print dress. And for our footwear, we went with the BEARPAW Shako II Boot. The fur gives it an elegant feel with just a touch of edginess. She wore the brown and I wore the black. Plus, we can dance the night away without paying the price tomorrow.
NEW YEAR’S IN THE BEARPAW SHAKO II BOOT
SPARKLE, GLITTER, AND THE BEARPAW SHAKO II BOOT
READY FOR NEW YEAR’S IN L.A. IN THE BEARPAW SHAKO II BOOT!
Stay tuned for the continuation of the story for a simple day look that is sure to start 2013 off right!
Happy New Year’s BEARPAW Nation! <3

A cover and a black eye
So a few months back I did another seasonal catalogue shoot with Bearpaw and Sportie LA.. Every time this crew gets together it's nothing but good times and non stop laughter... we all just get along like a family.... The shoot was held in Lake Tahoe (my hometown) and you can imagine how happy I was about that. Yeah well it was a 4 day shoot with a crew of almost 20 people and by day 2 guess who ended up with a black eye? Me. With still sooo much product to be shot, locations reserved, hotel rooms booked, all the people who flew in, aka all the money invested... It was a nightmare. But with the help of numerous bags of ice, advil and the best makeup artist in the business, we all came together and made it happen. Oh and we ended up with a cover in the end! ;) Never a dull moment...
Here's the article:
"Our final day of the BEARPAW shoot we got a very late start. Since this was our last day, and flights needed to be caught later in the evening, our call time was 7 AM. I think whoever chose that early in the morning was also a masochist, but that is pure conjecture.
Sublime was in town the night before which of course means a lot of debauchery…. for everyone else, classic music performed by a classic band was all the excitement that we were looking for. Unfortunately, some people can’t handle theirs, and our model found that out first hand. An unprovoked punch to the face and a black eye later, caused for a little bit of anxiety on our final morning in Tahoe. During our morning meeting not only did we have to do “damage control” to a model’s face, but our photographer was sick in bed with the Flu. Not to worry, the resilience of BEARPAW & Sportie LA Media couldn’t be stopped no matter what curve balls were thrown our way. We had an amazing make-up artist who worked her magic, and there was no sign of a black eye or hurt pride to be found. Phew!! In typical BEARPAW style we had plenty of talent waiting for the opportunity if situations came about like this. Oh yeah, and we found not one, but two fill-in photographers! They were an awesome married couple that worked beautifully together. Double phew!!
We eventually pulled out of the hotel to head to our location around 11 or so. Keep in mind, the shoot had to end no later than 5 so flights could be caught. The drive to the location took about 30 min. The sight of the snow covered mountains and the crisp blue lake really had a calming vibe during the drive. Cue nature’s beauty to tell us to relax … It made me wish all commutes to work looked like this. If you can be stressed in this surrounding, please call a professional.
We finally arrived at Ehrman Mansion, and it was truly beautiful. This was our first lakeside shoot, and the lake’s backdrop was perfectly matched with the crisp day. The shots look like our models were painted into a Thomas Kinkade painting. The grounds of the Ehrman Mansion property not only consisted of the mansion, a boat house, a pier, but a water tower built by William Mullholand as well. Yes, the same Mullholand that the famous Los Angeles drive is named after.
Since this was our 3rd day, most of the boots had already been shot. We just wanted a change of scenery with each boot, and the shots came out great. As day 3 came to a close it was ever so clear that the BEARPAW and Sportie LA crews really do live life comfortablly. We worked hard, but laughed and joked just as hard. The BEARPAW Footwear x Sportie LA Media Tahoe 2012 Photoshoot really was an amazing journey with the perfect ending (ok, sans the punching of the model part). Special thanks to the models, photogs, make-up, wardrobe, all of the participating set locations, crew members, and last but certainly NOT least, Randy, Isack, & Mikey!
It is said that all good things must come to an end… until next year, Live Life Comfortably!"
Ciao!
