5 Things You Should Know As A Young Woman

1. Don’t tell anyone how much money you have in your bank account.

2. You don’t have to share your whole life online to prove yourself.

3. Protect yourself online whenever you take pictures by clearing your metadata, which will remove your location. You should be able to change the months, hours and days you took a picture. Some people will go to extreme lengths to find out your schedule to track you down by only screenshotting your pictures. Blur & censor any identifying landmarks, store #’s & IDs and items around you.

4. Keep your life plans to yourself, not everyone’s your friend and will actively go out of their way to sabotage you.

5. Your health is pertinent to the quality of your life. You can have all the wealth you want, but if your health is poor, your quality of life will be as well.

Dear kids: sometimes, self-care is ridiculously unsexy. It's cleaning your filthy bathroom after weeks of ignoring it. It's washing your bedsheets and vacuuming your floors. It's forcing yourself to take a shower and brush your teeth. When that temporary motivation strikes, RIDE THAT WAVE as far as you possibly can. Curling up with a good book is such a receptive activity! Yet, reading (non-fiction) as a hobby really helps to broaden the mind and make you more interesting in conversation. Reading is probably one of the most receptive hobbies I have ever incorporated into my life! It’s allowed me slow down, and become patient with myself. Carefully reading each word per page, and grasping the knowledge the books are feeding me with.

I tell people that I am in love with flowers.

And in that spoken affection--

that easy to say thing, that easily smiled and accepted statement--

is a bigger and secret love...

One I talk less about because I've no desire for push back, for rebuttal, or any attempt to sway.

The underlying affection is for my sisters and their sons.

I love how like wild things they are-- blooming even if one day forgotten, calling back attention to themselves with their continued existence, making the world a better place by simply existing in it.

They are brightly colored flowers blooming in season

Fragile at first, but growing stronger

Developing root systems that can seek out the nutrients they need-- working to get it themselves--

But always just as ready to return to being cared for...

They are not spoiled by being well-loved.

They are not less worthy when waiting for the rain or the watering can.

They do not have to do anything for my love.
