READ AND SHARE IF YOU LOVE THE OILERS⬇️⬇️⬇️ This weekend was the NHL all-star break, which could not have come at a better time for the Edmonton Oilers who have been struggling to keep their head above water all season long. As a result of their struggles, the Oilers have gone through major changes this season including trades, coaching changes, and most recently, they fired their general manager Peter Chiarelli. One of the biggest challenges for Oiler players has always been living in such a passionate fan community. This can be a huge strength when the Oilers are winning, as the entire city gets behind them. The dark side of the coin is that when the team is struggling, the city becomes a mob of critiques. Everyone knows exactly how to fix the Oilers and are quick to say so via social media or simply yelling it out at Rogers Place when the Oilers fall behind. What people don’t realize is the incredible amount of negative pressure our criticism and scrutiny puts on these players, who already feel an incredible amount of pressure as it is, being professional athletes in the world’s most fast paced game. An interview with Connor McDavid aired during the All-Star game this weekend and when he was asked about the struggles in the dressing room his message was simply this “if you don’t want to be a part of the solution, you can leave”.... Some people say New Years Eve is overrated, but I’m a sucker for nostalgia. New Years Eve may be the most challenging to plan, with so many options and all the indecision, it’s enough to cause some last minute strife among the best of friends (I forgive you @yasboiii). The NYE hype often leads to disappointment, which is not surprising as a bar set too high can be impossible reach. I happen to love NYE. I think it is really important to have that time marker where you can reflect on the year that has past, evaluate your successes and failures, and set goals of betterment for the year ahead. It’s the one time of year where people take some time to look inward and analyze their own life. So often we get caught up in the exciting and stimulating world around us that we forget to keep an eye on ourselves, but reflection is one of the most powerful and effected tools in learning. The America Philosopher John Dewey famously said “we do not learn from experience... we learn from reflecting on experience.” New Years Eve provides us all with the perfect opportunity to get together with loved ones and reflect on our experiences, so that we can right our ship if need be, and sail into the new year with a new, rejuvenated vision of joy and success. Happy New Year, wishing that you and your family will continue to 🐝love and 🐝happy in 2019. #NewYearsEve #NYE #reflection #experience #goals #success #love #happy #beelove #beehappy (at Edmonton, Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsOUQPgAjdI/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=zehd2tlijsa8

I’m back!!! After 9 months of posts, I moved home, started teaching, and completely halted my project. These past few months I’ve been busy as a 🐝, but that is certainly no excuse. I recently listened to episode #304 of the @thetimferrissshow where he interviewed @debbiemillman , one of the world’s top designers. She was asked the question, if you could have a giant billboard anywhere with anything on it, what would it say and why? Her response: “My billboard would say this: Busy is a decision... of the many, many excuses people use to rationalize why they can't do something, the excuse "I am too busy" is not only the most inauthentic, it is also the laziest. I don't believe in too busy... We do the things we want to do, period. If we say we're too busy, I believe it is shorthand for not important enough. It means you would rather be doing something else that you consider more important... If we use busy as an excuse for not doing something, what we are really saying is it's not a priority, it's not as important to us. So simply put, you don't FIND the time to do something, you MAKE the time to do things. I think we are now living in a society that sees busy as a badge, it has become cultural cache to use the excuse "I am too busy" as a reason for not doing anything we don't feel like doing. The problem is this, if you let yourself off the hook for not doing something for any reason, you won't ever do it. If you want to do something, you can't let being busy stand in the way, even if you are busy. MAKE the time to do the things you want to do, and then follow through and do them." There is always time if you choose to make the time. It's easy to come up with excuses not to do something, the challenge is to prioritize your life and make time for the things that really matter. This is something that I am going to be conscious of over the holidays, as I dedicate my time to the important people in my life, as well as my own personal wellness. I hope you had a happy holidays with your loved ones, and I hope you continue to follow my blog, as I get back on track in 2019. #maketime#priorities#inspiration#quote#love#happy#beelove#beehappy#findthebee https://www.instagram.com/p/Br8ynzEAaNi/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ewk7373rqi0v

Last night I got to go to an Oilers game for the first time in two years and it rocked! The boys didn’t do so well as they were shut out by Nashville but El Boyos had an amazing time. Afterwards @yasboiii and @yonathans and I spent some time just sitting and chatting about the world’s most important issues and had an impromptu brainstorming sesh about how we could make the world a better place. Yes, this is how #elboyoslocos likes to spend their free time, schemin’ and dreamin’ about how we can spread the love. During our conversation, one of the boys challenged me about my positive belief in people. He suggested that people aren’t as inherently good as I believe them to be. While that may or may not be true, the comment got me thinking and I came to the following conclusion: it doesn’t matter if it’s true. What matters is my belief because it shapes my outlook, behaviors and expectations of the world around me. So through these projections, I influence the world around me to become more like the world I believe it to be. It was Mahatma Ghandi who famously wrote, “be the change you wish to see in the world.” All we can control are our own actions. So if we act the way the world COULD be, it will be! It all starts from our own belief which then drives our behaviors. Today, I encourage you to be the way that you wish the world was, and you will soon find yourself living in a better world. Go 🐝 love, go 🐝 happy. Our time in Bali was fantastic. We spent our days laying on beach chairs on Balangan Beach, Megan in the sun and me under an umbrella (I still got burnt). We dove into the waves from time to time, but mostly just relaxed on beach chairs, reading and watching surfers. Read all about what we learned from the surfers in the travel section of the website! Our time in Kuala Lumpur was exciting, interesting and thought provoking. We were very surprised by how advanced parts of the city were, and then you turn a corner and it looks like you have walked into a slum area. The city overall gives the impression that business is booming. Private businesses are beautiful, imaculate and well run. Plus, there are incredible shopping areas and malls all over the city not to mention many jaw dropping sky scrapers downtown. Then you get on a run down monorail with shattered windows to go from place to place... I was doing a guided reading lesson with my kids this week and I was teaching them about strategies to improve their reading comprehension. The strategy we were working on this week was looking at what is happening in the book and thinking about a time in your life when you were doing the same thing. Then asking yourself how you felt when it was happening, and what you did at the time. In this way, we can make connections with the characters in the story to gain a deeper understanding of what we are reading. Walking home from school I thought about how this elementary reading lesson could easily be applied to adults. In school, we talk all the time about reading comprehension. I think as adults we should practice our life comprehension. By that I mean we should work on comprehending the world around us. Behaviours of other people say a lot. Whether it is a family member, friend or co-worker, if someone is having a hard time, a bad day or a bad week, they usually say it without saying it. In moods, behaviors, actions or re-actions, the signs are there if we are paying attention. If you notice someone acting strangely, make the connection to your own life and ask yourself what they might be going through. Think about times when you have acted the same way and think about what you were going through at the time. Then ask yourself, "what could someone have done that would have really meant a lot to me?" THEN DO THAT FOR THEM!!! Genius idea if you ask me. Pay attention to the people around you, the smallest gesture can make the biggest difference. It's the little things that can improve a person's day. It's the little things that can change the world. Be love and be happy. #genius#life#comprehension#idea#love#happy#beelove#beehappy#findthebee (at Anyang, Kyonggi-Do, Korea)

Happy springtime! No, this is not a snapchat filter, its cherry blossom season! Spring is such a great season. Flowers are blooming, sun is shining, birds are chirping and all that jazz. To me, this is the real start of the new year. The snow has melted, the spring rains have cleaned away the dirt and mess that built up over the winter. We follow natures lead and begin spring cleaning. Getting our houses, yards and lives organized and ready for another year. This is the time when most people start new projects, or perhaps attempt to finish ones we started last spring. This is also the time when some of us leave our houses for the first time and actually go to that gym we signed up for on January 1st. Spring is the season of doing stuff! For me, I’m thinking about my website. I’m trying to create a website that can provide people with meaningful material to better their lives in some way. The goal is that make a site that can be used in many different ways. To post my own ideas, videos and podcasts, to share my story in different and hopefully interesting ways. But I also want to use my website as a hub for connecting people and ideas that will make the world a better place. I’ll post links to great podcasts, suggestions for movies, books, and more. I’d also love to connect people to businesses and events that share my affinity for spreading the love. These are my dreams and ideas that I am taking on this spring. The website is a real thing I promise, it is just taking me much longer than I had hoped because I forgot to account for the fact that I have no idea how to use technology. Baby steps, I'll get it done soon enough! In the meantime, continue sitting on the edge of your seat in excited anticipation. Enjoy your spring, enjoy all the potential that this season holds for you. 🐝 love and 🐝 happy! #spring#cherryblossoms#nofilter#projects#goals#joy#love#happy#beelove#beehappy#findthebee (at Anyang, Kyonggi-Do, Korea)
