May 2nd, 2025 - Friday
A little tea party with some close friends✨ Sometimes what friends who are in the midst of applications (job apps, grad school apps) just need to dress up and have fancy tea. Just a little bit of whimsy to look back on and to carry us thru the rest of a process that feels hopeful yet hopeless, productive yet a waste of time. Because if I've learned anything, it's that the time that passes is spent whether you do anything in that time or not. So make little good memories even in bad times. Especially in bad times.

sometimes when you look at someone and think “ughhh i wish that was me” what you’re really feeling isn't jealousy. you don’t want to be them. you want to feel like you but braver, freer, softer, louder, whatever they’re reminding you of
we grow up being told to compete but healing girlhood teaches that you can feel inspired without feeling small. you can let someone’s light show you where yours is dim. you can see beauty in someone else and use it as a mirror, not a measuring stick
so next time you feel that burn in your chest, pause and ask yourself: what part of me is waking up when i look at them? what dream of mine are they unknowingly touching? because that’s not jealousy. that’s a version of you (not yet born) whispering “hey! we could do that too <3”

Tuesday, the 3rd of June 2025
The morning was joyous: I played with the dog, raced her in the garden, and we rolled around in the grass. Afterwards, I had a very promising meeting for a new project at a museum. There might be a future for me here. Yet, I didn't spend too much time thinking about it since I had a lovely day planned for my Ma and I, including a lunch, pottery, and rowing. Tomorrow, I will return to class and hope to keep up with everyone.

some advice i have for future computer science students
as soon as you learn data structures & complexity, run, don’t just walk, RUN to leetcode while the knowledge is still fresh in your mind. your entire career and whether you’ll get a well-paying job vs an average paying job depends on how good you are at leetcode.
build as many projects as you can, and i’m not talking tutorial projects that take a few hours, i’m talking big projects. working on a project for a month or two will get you really far.
if you don’t have an internship, do not waste your summers, learn new technologies, languages, concepts and build projects you can put in your cv.
try to participate in hackathons and coding competitions. it’s okay if you fail, but you’ll learn a lot.
learn how to read documentation. most tutorials don’t even cover a quarter of what a language, framework or software has to offer. the sooner you make reading documentation a habit, the better it is. and yes i know, documentation is long and hard to read. my advice is only read the sections that are relevant to you in the moment. something i also personally do is look at the code examples at the same time as i am reading the paragraphs, it really helps easily absorbe the information.
try not to use chatgpt. and if you do, then at least use it for stuff you know you can do yourself and will be able to correct if the bot gets it wrong. using chatgpt is a very slippery slope and the more you use it the less you learn.
the math is important. math teaches you how to reason and how to develop better logical thinking. just because you don’t see yourself using the xyz theorem you’ve learnt anytime in the future doesn’t mean the math is useless.
be prepared to get comfortable with erros, issues, bugs and just problems in general. you’ll be coding 30% of the time and debugging 70% of the time (i’m exaggerating but sometimes it feels like this is the case lol), and that’s okay, it’s how we learn and the sooner you embrace it the better. if you’re someone who easily gets frustrated, then this is a heads up.
learn as you go. there is no such thing as waiting until you know everything before you start on a project. the only way and the best way to learn in this field is practice, so build, build, and build.
these are all the ones i could think of for now. feel free to comment your thoughts and questions <3

thursday | june 5
classes are over! just two more papers to write and then i'll be able to officially wrap up the term.
the paper i'm analyzing for my nanochem final project is taking me on a wild detour into lanthanide chemistry, so i'll be spending the morning going down that rabbit hole until i understand the basics. it's a bit out of my biochem/orgo comfort zone and the tequila hangover isn't helping but i'm always excited to learn some new science.

Took yet another walk around the lake and the water was shimmering! Wish I had a better camera. I have also been taking some more notes about neurotransmitters. The brain is so interesting I want to know all about it!

May 28th, 2025
I got quite some work done this morning. There are still a few things I have to finish before the end of next week, but I'm getting there. I really cannot wait for the holidays. I have so many things I want to do and it's hard to focus on work while my mind is exploding with ideas.
