Customary Memorial Day post: Lake Wenatchee (nope, I did not sneeze!) is a picturesque recreation favorite in Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest region, with a wide variety of activities ranging from horseback riding to parasailing in summer to cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in winter. Around 100 miles north east of Seattle conurbation, it's the main attraction in Lake Wenatchee State Park. The park has 2 entrances: North and South, both with abundant camping grounds, flat trails and is bordered by rising hills. Beautiful place to visit. #pnw #mtbakersnoqualmienationalforest #lakewenatchee #us2 #memorialdayweekend (at Lake Wenatchee State Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAo8asEHw3L3DY0Lrio6tqgjyTMElJD_L512Qo0/?igshid=87b32wr95j4r

Blessed as we were by three consecutive days of mild sunshine as winter drew to a close last Saturday, a walk along Sammamish River Trail yielded pleasant sights such as this one. There's a long way to go before normalcy can return, but I've learnt to be grateful for what I have, than yearn for that I do not. #takingonedayatatime #pnw #sammamishrivertrail #redmond (at Sammamish River Trail) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-DNt4NH0Wl/?igshid=1ap4nh6fb1zu0

Ladies and gentlemen, the ultimate legend among military jets: the SR-71 Blackbird. Developed as a secret project by Lockheed Skunkworks for aviation reconnaissance, it is one of elite few aircraft to fly at 3 times speed of sound (north of 3000 mph!). The famous speed check story is worth checking out. 2. Fairchild Republic A-10C Thunderbolt 3. Saturn V section 4. Scale models of Saturn V and other craft used by NASA 5. The Hughes H-4 Hercules (aka "Spruce Goose") is the largest flying boat ever built. Constructed for war-time transport in mid-1940s, it only flew once and never saw active duty. Even to this day, its numbers are staggering: wingspan of over 300 feet, height close to 80 ft, 8 P&W engines each belting out 3000 hp, and fully loaded weight of close to half-a-million lbs! 1. "A three-chord symphony crashes into space // The moon is hanging upside down // I don't know why it is I'm still on the case // It's a ravenous town // And you still refuse to be traced // Seems to me such a waste // And every victory has a taste that's bittersweet // And it's your face I'm looking for on every street" - Dire Straits (On Every Street) #Pullman #TravelDiaries #pnw #palouse (at Pullman, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4cnFMoHrdZkZKOKXhqlyJLydH4F5JTK09DImo0/?igshid=1vm5jhdrn5xbr

Not often you come across a trail that has singular history behind it. The Great Fire of 1910 destroyed many pristine areas of parkland across Northwest and Wallace, ID was not spared. So widespread was the devastation that fire prevention and protection became the #1 priority of National Forest Service. For more info, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Pulaski_Tunnel_and_Placer_Creek_Escape_Route?wprov=sfla1. The actual hike distance isn't much (4mi round-trip) but with sharp inclines, good footwear is essential. The stream gently running along the trail is refreshingly cool. #wallace #pnw #coeurdalene #coeurdalenenationalforest (at Pulaski Trail) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3AuLODnAIoYRV6-IhImZtI4o9ETbbqpXhmTp00/?igshid=1nd3a0amdf8ln

Sunny Saturday afternoon hike in the #columbiaplateautrail between Sprague & Spokane in Eastern Washington. The asphalt section of the 23 miles long trail is virtually flat and ~4 miles one way. It runs alongside the historic Seattle-Portland-Spokane railroad, now defunct. There's also the rather adorably petite #FishLake for those interested in kayaking/paddleboarding. #pnw #hiking (at Columbia Plateau Trail) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzr2vwyH30PK7kQ8xYmIJ9RwIp4T8j09QBulg40/?igshid=rctwv7u1ndwe

Hidden in the sweeping canyon of Southeast Washington is the majestic Palouse Falls. The official state falls, it is on the Palouse River, a tributary of Columbia. With a drop of ~189 ft, it is quite stunning to witness in person. The park surrounding it offers camping and picnic areas. Daring visitors often ignore stark warning signs and get up close. A trail also leads to the floor. #palousefalls #pnw #palouse (at Palouse Falls State Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzr10s-nJV-YlHOmAefEIpqdtqerZSzXofCLGU0/?igshid=12a9kj5lweg7a
