there's burning hot shame creeping up his spine, head dunked, unable to look jamie in the eye. to be human is to feel, but ted isn't sure that he's ever good at being human- letting people in. is it even fair to unload this onto someone like jamie? ted's first instinct is to say no, which should override him into getting a grip, but he still stays here, sat and whittled down to the bone. beard had told him to stay home, to take a sick day and rest, ted, ever so stubborn, came in anyways, and now he really wishes he hadn't. but he can't let beard know that. and he cannot let jamie see his gaffer like this. Jamie doesn't get it. Obviously he doesn't get it. His mum's still alive, his dad's a piece of shit, but also still alive. He has no clue how to comfort someone in this situation. He wants to comfort him, but he doesn't want to comfort him too much. This really doesn't feel like his place. Shouldn't Beard be here? Beard's not here. It's just Jamie. Is just Jamie enough? His first instinct is to offer physical affection - would a hug be too much? Some people think hugs are too much. Maybe he should offer before he goes to touch him. He didn't offer before he tried to hug Roy, and that had earned him a shove. Jamie doesn't especially want Ted to shove him away. "D'you... want a hug...?
