Hello everyone!
I would like to introduce you to my new work place. This week I will work at the other location of the University, called LSB. My mentor will be Giovanni, he is head of the Facility Management. His task is among other things the organizing of the infrastructure in and around the buildings, recovery works and he is also responsible for all the purchases made by the University. We felt immediately a connection so this will be another particularly educational work week. To start the day, I got an extensive tour of each building. In the afternoon I helped Giovanni and her assistant Yeritza with some office work.

Welcome to my workplace!Â
I lead you all to have a look around in the company I have worked for the past two weeks. Good to know is that the University of Aruba is based in two places. The main campus of the UA is centrally located in downtown Oranjestad, that's the building where the students can follow their classes, where they can make use of the library,... Three of my colleague students work there all the time and other two work there regularly. I will work there starting next week. The other building, that you can see on the pictures above, is named the Apex building. The Apex building is located just outside the center of Oranjestad, just in front of the beach. Most of the offices and service functions of the University are located in this building. I find it a very pleasant work area with nice colleagues. Every morning I start the day with a nice chat with our secretary. The office where I work, I share with my internship mentor Deborah and her assistant Anchi. It is according to me the best colleagues you may wish!

Last week was a special week. Wednesday, just after our workday ended, we started an extended weekend. Thursday was a public holiday in honor of Betico Croes. Betico Croes was an Aruban politician and a national hero. He means a lot for the Aruban inhabitants. The University of Aruba had decided to make a bridge day, so Friday we had a day extra to enjoy our time on the island. In that long weekend we have done some cool stuff of course.Â
We explored Aruba and drove in the direction of San Nicolaas, the southern part of Aruba. We went to a couple beautiful white beaches, one named Baby Beach. After passing the day on Baby Beach, we rode to a local fish restaurant named Zeerovers. The day after, we climbed a million year old rock where we had a nice view of Aruba. Thereafter we climbed the Hooiberg, one of the two ‘mountains’ here on Aruba. Mr Geerts, Arthur, Yasin and me decided to do a race to the top. Congratulations to Mr Geerts because he won! Thereupon we drove to one of the hidden pools of Aruba. It was the first time that I saw something like that and I have to admit that I was impressed. We had the time as well to take a dive in it if we wanted. After that this we went to another beach, but in the northwest of Aruba, named Arashi Beach. California Lighthouse is nearby Arashi Beach so we spent there also a small visit to. For the rest of the time we enjoyed the nightlife as well. Sunday was a relaxing day with a view that we were fresh for another work week at the University! Â
It was an entertaining weekend!

This is Deborah, she is my internship mentor for the coming days. I was warmly welcomed and the working atmosphere is very pleasant. She works as coordinator for the Center for Life Long Learning where adult education is provided. The Center for Life Long Learning wants to contribute specifically to the development of the Aruban society. Deborah is among other things responsible for lectures, workshops and Post Academic courses. My task will be mainly to assist her in organizing everything; communication; logistic support; administration, ... I also have a second mentor, Giovanni, with whom I will work from Thursday on next week.
Many hands make light work!

After a long journey of more than 10 hours are we finally arrived to our destination, Aruba! My first impression of the country is immediately overwhelming. We have already visited the city center of Oranjestad. So far I have nothing to complain about: the weather is more than good, the atmosphere in the group is excellent, the inhabitants of Aruba are very friendly and I’m sure it will just be more fun!
I look forward to my first day in the University of Aruba where I will work at the department of Center for Lifelong Learning.

This is the place where I will work for the three weeks on internship! The University of Aruba is located in Oranjestad. It’s a modern university and about 600 students study here ,although the university has two campuses. The courses you can follow here are Law, Arts and Science, Hospitality and Tourist Management, Finance, Accounting and Marketing. I am really looking forward to meeting new people and to gaining experience from my co-workers!
See you!
