Dollar Tree is so fucked up cuz like why did my team and I work so hard to improve the quality and reputation of our store, to the point where it's making over double what it did 3 years ago, only for corporate to not care, not pay us more, and not increase payroll enough to hire anyone else to compensate for the extra work caused by now having double the amount of customers we used to?

This used to be a chill gig and now I'm sweating and stressed every shift because there's double the work, double the customers, and double the mess to clean up when they leave, and less time to clean it because MORE CUSTOMERS SHOW UP.

Corporate doesn't listen to us, they don't help us, but they're perfectly willing to collect all the extra money we made for them, to the tune of over a million dollars EXTRA a year.

Why the fuck did we do all that work just to make MORE WORK for ourselves???? We should have just done the bare minimum like everyone else, endured the complaints that every other store gets, and enjoyed the quiet shifts that we had. There was never any reason to work this hard. There was never a point to it. All it did was make the job harder for the same amount of fucking pay. We were literally number 6 in the entire company for sales growth and we didn't even get a fucking pizza party.

It's no wonder why all the other stores went to shit and no one who works there tries. There's no point. They'll literally just exploit you. I'm so fucking tired of customers coming to me like "We actually drive all the way here instead of going to our local store cuz we like yours a lot more" like yeah cool have you considered maybe not??? Like have you considered maybe there's enough people in one fucking town for the store to make enough money to be fine and we don't need THIS MANY FUCKING PEOPLE COMING IN???? It's not their fault tho, they don't know. It's not even the fault of the other stores for letting themselves go to shit and chasing their customers away to us. It's the fault of corporate for letting things get this bad. They don't help any of us, regardless of our success or our shortcomings. They literally do not care either way.

Idk why I feel the need to weigh in on the Stolas drama since its very much not my lane, but I guess since I'm a writer myself, I can't help but have an opinion.

The idea that Vivziepop has failed to establish Stolas as a redeemable character, and that Stolas deserves worse for his actions, has merit. At the very least, I don't think Viv has done enough to really show why Stolas and Blitz should be endgame, even if I personally enjoy their dynamic.

What they have at best seems physical and chemical, and everything about their personalities, worldviews, and desires seem to all clash. As it stands, the only thing that seems to hold them together now is infatuation, guilt, and the convenience of proximity.

Hell, that might even be what Viv is going for in the end, although tweets from her seem to suggest otherwise. It could be that their relationship really is doomed to fail, and that would be interesting to see imo.

Having said all of that, I do think the Stolas hate goes too far. The suicide animation is certainly emblematic of the fandom feeling unheard in this regard, and it's viable storytelling for a character to off themselves out of guilt or shame. Sometimes that can send a powerful, if dark, message.

But like, come on man... we don't need to 'see' it. The animator could have cut to Stolas's shadow, or show the flash of the gunshot followed by a feather flying up close to the camera only to fall slowly down. There is no worthwhile artistic merit to seeing his fucking brains blown out, blurred or otherwise.

That, to me, feels like unhealthy levels of projection. As if to say "this character reminds me of someone in my life who I wish would unalive themselves, so I am going to depict them doing so in order to satisfy myself."

Idk, that just feels like it has no merit, and is needlessly disrespectful to Viv. Its one thing to criticize her portrayal of a toxic relationship, its one thing to suggest that she's giving too much sympathy to a side that doesn't deserve it, but it's another thing entirely to project 'real' hate onto that character and then portray their on-screen death out of anger.

It really wouldn't surprise me if a harassment campaign is brewing, and I just hope that Viv, Stolas's VA, and the rest of the crew aren't inundated with undue hate and vitriol over the creative direction of a fictional character.

The entire point of exploring real feelings through fiction is that there is a degree of separation from the reality that we actually face. It's all essentially a practice in cognitive empathy. If you can put yourself in the position of a character and understand what they are going through, perhaps you can extend that skill to real people down the line. This, I think, is what is happening to some degree. A lot of fans are able to put themselves in the position of Blitz, a character who is loud, crass, and obnoxious, who has made mistakes and hurt people, who lashes out for fear of opening up, who hides their emotions behind a layer of sarcasm and rudeness, but deep down is filled with regret and shame. They see the show paint Blitz's moral failings very thick, and slowly but surely build up to a redemption for him... only to then seemingly give Stolas a free-pass for 'his' moral failings, and relegate Blitz to Stolas's caretaker. They feel it is unfair, because they would feel it is unfair if they were in Blitz's position. That, I understand.

HOWEVER, when you start doling out real consequences for perceived moral failings within the bounds of fiction, you're essentially tearing down that wall of separation, leaving no safe place to practice that process of expression and understanding. An argument could be made that Stolas sacrifices a lot for Blitz. He sacrifices Blitz's financial dependence on him in order to hopefully lay the foundation for a real relationship that goes beyond the physical and transactional. When that fails, he then sacrifices his social standing, his powers, his class, and access to his wife and daughter, in order to save Blitz's life, and he does indeed suffer the consequences of these decisions. His daughter hates him now, his powers are gone, and the roles are effectively reversed between himself and Blitz, now having to rely on 'his' charity in order to survive. But you could also argue that, at the end of the day, Stolas does get what he wanted in the end; a relationship with Blitz, and that relationship still feels transactional due to the dynamics at play. And you can also argue that the show doesn't really portray it that way, or that it doesn't do enough to elude to the inherent toxicity.

I am not saying that criticism of Stolas or Viv's writing is unwarranted. Quite the opposite. Like I said, the criticisms against Stolas aren't without merit, but at the end of the day, he's still a fictional character. It is okay for your personal experience to INFORM your read of a character, but they shouldn't COMPEL you to spew vitriol at the writer.

On his way home, my boi encounters a shadow man monster guy. It's on sight as they engage in the average London disagreement. Over time, Shiki realizes that his opponent is aiming for his lines!

Shiki actually puts in the work and starts going ham, doing this cool elbow lock move. In the middle of their brawl, the fight is interrupted by Noel (a church lady who hunts vampires) and my anemic warrior is then confronted.
