A Break for Mommy
A Break for Mommy
What I am about to write could not be written any better through Hollywood script. Although a bunch of Breakin’ Moms back spinning with babies was probably one of the best highlights of the night. This Journey of what it means to physically and mentally challenge our bodies is straight from the heart shared between spectacular women who found each other through Hip Hop and made a very critical…

“Leaders Of The Ground is my way of recognizing Bgirls who put in hard work, the ones who do it for the love of the dance and culture, the ones that are always in the front line repping and inspiring without excluding the bboys because it’s not about creating a separation its about being more equal and United.” -Jeskilz

Any Bgirl who has laid her heart on the floor in a room of Bboys can agree that we definitely push ourselves harder and stand stronger striving for the opportunities that don’t usually appear in our favor. Ultimately respect and recognition has to be earned and our passion will shine through to be granted those abilities to grow along our peers no matter their gender. BBoys and Bgirls have always been divided by ratios but there are those Bgirls who refuse to let those numbers over shadow their commitment, time, and effort that  preserves our right to be considered equal.  In 2016 the breaking world watched many Bgirls take the win overseas and in the states. Watching Bgirls hold those plaques with pure bliss meant achievement to all and motivated us to keep putting ourselves out there. Meanwhile many of those Bgirls transpired that inspiration and created a vision to commend those Bgirls by letting them lead and call out their Bboy of choice with mutual respect for each others presence in the cypher. “It’s really important for me that the girls be the one choosing their opponent because how often do you get offered this type of opportunity? Plus I get to see their excitement, confidence and personal preferences like these girls are gangstas not holding back one bit with lists of straight heavy hitters”. New ground, new approach, and new opportunity with the potential to ignite leadership and confidence. “Last year we had Japan (Ayumi), Finland (AT) and USA (Macca), this year we’ve got France (Hurricane), USA (Crissy B) and Russia (Nadia DafunkyStyle).
“For me ideas come from personal experiences or goals I want to accomplish. I need to feel connected to a CAUSE rather than a CONCEPT. The main motivation is always about bringing something new or something missing to the table.” ….and so Jeskilz did exactly that…
The name of the Movement would be called “Leaders of the Ground” and the motions would be monumental for a culture that thrives off of diversity.
Watch this clip for featured footage and witness untied growth and gratitude from Leaders of the ground 2016 brought to us by the Bboy Network.
Leaders of the ground allowed Jeskilz to turn her vision into a real life scenario by creating such a evolutionary concept within the breaking community. Bgirl Jeskilz and founder of Cypher Adikts wanted to shed light upon the ladies by matching them up with a Bboy per request and watch both exchange their well known styles in their own way.  Anyone who has ever been to Cypher Adikts already knows the continuous climax between cyphers all night so the possibilities are endless to naturally vibe out in a room of people who share the same passion for the Hip Hop culture as you do. However, by adding these featured battles it also creates a piece of the culture that is missing. Jeskilz explains, ” I love the fact that it all happens spontaneously during Cypher Adikts so there are no big announcements or music interruptions, which keeps the element of surprise going and allows the bboy and bgirl going at it to really feel the vibe instead of being pressured to just deliver on the spot or put on a show for the crowd.” Past match ups brought exactly what was envisioned and with it being the first year it’s easy to sat that Jeskilz had created something that can go far and be utilized by the Bgirls who stay consistent with motivation. Extraordinary match up between Bgirl Maaca and BBoy Kid David wasn’t only witnessed but felt as they both danced with their souls, no strategies, no overthinking, just an exchange of adrenaline and vibes. “It was a whole different vibe, they’re both very playful and charismatic so they kept on out styling each other or stealing the crowd’s reaction after each round, the dynamic between them was great!” ” Ayumi really went hard on Keebz and kept coming at him which did not give him a chance to hold back at all so it was super intense.”
These are the trail blazing moments that help create unity, fun exchanges and eagerness to be the most creative Bboy and Bgirl you can be. Jeskilz not only opens up opportunity for the Bgirl Community but she brought the gap closer by granting their approach to be respected and fulfilling the passion of being a Leader of the ground. Don’t miss out!  Begins January 21st 2016 in Los Angeles California. Stay Tuned for winner announcements and Footage.

Better yet how does one explain the electrifying energy flow with flawless movement inside and outside the cypher? Well the amount of support is still overflowing from the stories being shared by the people who attended, testimonies by the competitors, and future connections have been set in…

Sometimes, the reality of our daily news is a tough pill to swallow. It’s even harder to process when it hits so close to home. The soul of Orlando was damaged the day of the Orlando shootings at Pulse night club. Then as the news spread across city lines more people were left confused, saddened, and desperate to help Orlando get their spirit back. Powerful hashtags such as #OrlandoStrong, #prayforOrlando, and #WeAreOrlando, were created overnight and dominated the country to remind ourselves that love and support will always defeat hate. Along with overwhelming tributes from social media, the idea was finally put into effect for the Pray for Orlando Beach Front Cypher.
A motivated individual in particular known in the scene as Bgirl Genesis felt the need to help and give back by creating a healing process right away. After reaching out to her, she amazed me with how exactly this came together and for those of us who could only support by sharing from our home states, here is an overview of how this heartfelt hip hop jam came pieced together.
“I lived in VA for 6 years before relocating to Orlando, so I know the 757 scene well and they know of me. Word was the local bboys were trying to coordinate a beach cypher at the Oceanfront for a few weeks & it never came together. I took this opportunity to give what the bboys wanted and at the same time, raise donations for the victims of the Pulse shooting in Orlando.” Genesis took the opportunity to seize local support while dancers shared their passion, spectators supported the cause, and hope rejuvenated broken spirits. “The cypher  provided a chance for the VA community to witness and experience what real hip hop is about and partake as well.”
“Financially I used my connections and personal resources to fund this event. Thankfully, most of what I needed I had and my family graciously provided. Planning this event with only seven days and from afar heavily relied on my family and those I counted on to be there to play their role. My father and cousin were the photographers and documented the event. My cousin and mother helped me set up and helped with any miscellaneous request I needed. It was truly a family affair. Culturally, my goal was to educate the 757 on the essence of what a cypher was. I did not want any cash prizes. I didn’t want the focus to be a competition format. I also wanted the bboys/bgirl/dancers to work for the cypher king/queen title and prizes. That alone takes a real stamina, strategy, quality rounds, and hunger. I wanted to give them a challenge that would push themselves. I can honestly say this is the first cypher jam format VA has had with a Cypher King/Queen Award. Even with a Cypher King/Queen award to work for, I believe this exposure to a cypher and atmosphere it provides was necessary for the 757.”
The day included many organic highlights that kicked off developmental distractions from the overwhelming headlines. The range of spectators consisted from a young boy to a grandmother that participated in the cypher led by vibrant energy. Ironically, a Dj had been passing through with his laptop and portable equipment and was interested in playing for the active platform, which made the event even that more epic. Two cyphers ran simultaneously beside each other while the bboys and all-style dancers vibed off each other and exchanged rounds respectively. A personal highlight was when Genesis presented her father with a handmade canvas by urbandiggsart to show appreciation for fathers day as well as cooperation from her family. Whether the support was given by family, friends, or the community, the concept of unity was still recognized and respected.
The idea of rebuilding through remembrance from others who had lost their lives from tragedy in the Orlando shootings was given a spark, and the light broke through the dark and flustering feelings that weighed heavy on so many hearts. The world is not perfect, but our inner passions keep us grounded as we strive to be better individually. Genesis helped remind others that with generosity and open mindedness, connectivity through passion can unite all beautiful souls.
“A physical altercation almost happened after the winner of the Cypher King was chosen. I took this moment to educate what we do in hip hop. If you disagree on a loss, you call that person out (judge/opponent) battle till respect is given. Talk with your skills and not with your mouth. I reiterated the reason for the event and what happened in Orlando. My co-host also made the point that there is already a negative out look on hip hop and this altercation is proving that statement true. Spectators, families, and non hip hop individuals were there. I’m thankful to set an example that this is not what hip hop is about.”
Genesis, along with the Ocean Front supporters, walked away with inspiration, future hope, and the primary  achievement of $300 from donations. “Dream big, work hard and watch it manifest into reality. This is my first experience organizing a cypher jam and the fact that everything came together successfully and organically proves that dreams do come true. My crew motto is “Culture, Community, Sisterhood.” I firmly believe in this. It has become who I am and the purpose in my life as a bgirl.”
This blog goes without saying that in a world full of conflict, we can still find the beauty within each other by simply sharing love and using our talents for greatness instead of defeat. Dancing is not just a skill but a tool used to our advantage to connect with people of all types and all places. The imperfect motions create the most perfect movement that we connect with everyday and devote our spirits to in hope that we are changing lives and making a difference.
Many contributions were made by local Orlando supporters that helped the Pray for Orlando Beach Cypher reach their financial goal. Such delicates included a handmade necklace, handmade canvas by Urbandiggsart, Soul Culture Apparel , 12 designer Disney Mugs donated by Child of this Culture (Bgirls Candy and Cindy), and a Well Done Inc. Bruce Lee medallion that Genesis herself had won in a 2vs2 Queens of Hip Hop battle that she gifted back as a prize. Not to mention the local donations that were made on site. “My family, my co-host Tifa G, the judges Bboy All Caps & Bboy FloTek gave me their time and expertise freely. That to me is a major contribution to the success of this fundraiser event.” – Genesis
A City Connected by a Culture Sometimes, the reality of our daily news is a tough pill to swallow. It's even harder to process when it hits so close to home.

Keeping Hip Hop(e) Alive
Keeping Hip Hop(e) Alive
Hip hop is more than the music booming from your radio. It is movement that has continued to connect lives and save lives all within the same cycle. It is a culture and has been known to elevate us  from challenging moments into greater b-girls, leaders, mentors, and inspirations to one another.  As b-girls begin to rise and enhance the culture, there is a way to keep hip hop evolving and…

"BreaKin" Barriers
“BreaKin” Barriers
The b-girl scene is thriving right now, and it’s only because we have taken the initiative to make things happen. B-girls are thinking outside that cypher and thinking long-term instead of in the moment. This continues to pave the way that legenday b-girls created, but now, it’s headed in a new direction. It’s more than competing; It’s about really seizing the opportunity to dominate, be seen, be…

Bgirl Bday Blog “Goody Roc”
Happy birthday to Bgirl Goody Roc as she continues to inspire, share her knowledge, and bring her generous smile with such style! “My advice is, to leave the competitiveness on the dance floor. It’s good to have that aggressiveness and competitive spirit when you battle or dance, but it doesn’t mean we can’t build each other up, or support each other, and be happy for another b-girl’s successes.”…

B-Mom Day with MK
B-Mom Day with MK
When we think of Mother’s Day, we think of our moms. Or for those of us who are moms, we think about a day off, but as our culture expands and dedication to stay in the scene becomes very much needed, b-girls of all ages and walks of life are holding it down. On in particular is goes by the name of MK and rocks alongside her son Nightmare, who is a young b-boy on the rise. Both dynamic dancers…
