Macs gotten Acetous but Savory
Written by Kai T.
On Mac Demarco’s new album,
He’s seemed to become like a long lasting gum the older he gets, but every bit of the album is savory. It’s all clumped together but still cohesive, he said in an interview with Huck magazine that,
“I didn’t want to make a perfect record. Then I got into this circle where I was trying to perfect something that was supposed to be imperfect-perfectly crappy… I haven’t even listened to it since I made it so I don’t remember what it sounds like. But I remember stressed out mixing it, I tell you.”
If you’ve heard a Mac Demarco record, you would know “perfectly crappy” is sort of his formula for an imperfect album, and the way he stirs his concoction up is always pleasant. In another interview with NME, he said he’s come to terms that he’s old news and not really the latest fad
“I think I’m already in the phase where it’s like: Oh, he’s so played out. He’s not cool anymore’. That’s inherent, but it’s funny to watch. It’s fine with me.”
I couldn’t agree more, but that self awareness is always a good foresight, for Mac’s always gonna have a special place in my heart. I too have a getting old outlook looming over me, even though I’m in my early 20’s... I still relate to the slow but inevitable fate of becoming an old man but also making some changes; I still got a lot of time.
Check out the album “Here comes the Cowboy”
I give it a solid 7/10... not his best but still a long lasting piece of gum.

Katana ZERO Soundtrack thoughts...
Written by Eric S.
Story, Music, and Gameplay, when all working together, is what makes a game an enjoyable experience on an almost ethereal level. Personally, when it comes to games, I always look to the soundtrack to see if it ties things together, because it seems music in video games today sometimes do not make the experience anything more than dull.
Speaking of the importance of a well thought out soundtracks in a game, I would like to talk about a new game by the name of “Katana ZERO”, Developed by Askiisoft and Published by Devolver Digital. This game, in the nature of many games that come out of Devolver, has a fantastic 8-bit style, blended with a intense but satisfying color palette. In regards to the gameplay, it reminds me of a previous game from the same publisher titled “Hotline Miami”; 8-bit style, vibrant color, and of course, ultra-violence. The thing about “Katana ZERO” is the fact that it has a sad, but compelling story, coupled with a beautiful yet intense soundtrack.
The soundtrack is a blend of fast paced techno and the occasional jazzy, melancholically infused, slower tracks. When engaging in combat, you feel as if you are in the scenario, running through hallways and rooftops removing head from body with the slice of your katana. The fast paced nature of the game is greatly heightened by the energy filled music in the background. When it comes to scenes where there is sadness, fear, or self reflection, the music changes to something more slow, heartfelt, and enigmatic. It is a beautiful combination of intense violence, and personal understanding.
The OST, being a lengthy 1 hour and 44 minute emotional rollercoaster, consists of artists Bill Kiley, LudoWic, DJ Electrohead, Tunç Çakır, and Justin Stander (Bandcamp and youtube links below). Give this soundtrack a listen if you are a fan of Synth Wave, Jazz, and maybe a combination of both.
