     Madame de Fer is hardly the most fit among the senior members of the Inquisition. In strength, she stands tall. Intimidating, towering, grand, strong, perfect. She is the embodiment of absolutely everything to which one should aspire. She is a force that cannot be taken down.

Yet beneath her front, behind the mask of her beloved Game, hides a person. She stands, because her skin is taut, tempered. She rarely sits, because she does not like the way her skin rolls beneath her fine garments. She does not speak of herself, for every bit of information is vital; every drop of trust can and will inevitably be turned against her. She does not complain when her chest and legs ache, when mud sullies her finery, when stitches cramp sharply down her sides, and she does not show sighs of relief when she stops to rest while the Inquisitor busies themselves with the problems of others. She is Madame de Fer, after all, and Madame de Fer is anything but weak.

Madame de Fer is out to play, to win, while Vivienne watches comfortably behind the maze of walls and fronts, content to keep her business hers.

Serving Some Orlesian Realness

No, but imagine if Sera was better written and Vivienne wasn’t classist- •Not getting along at first because Vivienne’s snobby and she reminds Sera of the human woman who raised her and made her hate not only other elves but herself for being ‘elfy’ and reacting as such. • Sera and her having a shared belief in magic and spirits, making a pact that if Cole even moves wrong they’d have each other’s back against it, and the shiver Sera had when demons or magic was mentioned let Vivienne believe Sera was sensible- to an extent. •Vivienne treating her elven servants as well as the others- even allowing them to live on the same floor as her and having a reputation for reprimanding rude nobles who would harm her or their servants in particular, spinning the incidents as indecency to those under her staff and brutality to other nobles’ servants and gains respect as a noble not to trifle her while causing elves to be at worst impartial at best loyal of her, causing Sera to actually respect her. •Vivienne creating an outfit for Sera for Halamshiral, making it so it highlights the elf’s dark skin and that no one could ever mistake her for a servant- not that servants don’t deserve respect in the Game. •Sera chewing out Dorian when he refers to Vivienne as a whore because she’ll be damned if even a woman she doesn’t like so much gets one of ‘those words’ thrown at her so casually. •Sera swallowing her pride after the letter about Bastien’s death came in and giving her condolences, and Vivienne deciding to talk about Bastien after the elf promises to not tell a soul- after all, Sera is many things, but a liar is not one of them, and she starts talking of a girl possessed by Pride and freed herself, a rarity in itself and a vow to never let herself fall to the treacheries of magic, a man she did love but because it was safe to love him- and, despite being enthralled with her, showed that like the rest of the court he had only been interested in her magic. •Then they talk of another girl, a girl who was taken in by a human lady, who made her hate her ears and how small she was that she wished she was as tall as human girls and pride cookies and the lady dying and being alone and hungry again but a Friend helped her love her ears and the ones with tattoos she didn’t like since they hated her and others like her too. • The name ‘Vivi’ soon became ‘Vivienne’, though Vivienne remarks Sera butchers her full name- ‘Vivi’ would have to do she sighs with a winking smile (Iron Bull comments on why he can’t call her ‘Viv’ but a cold glance from Vivienne silences him almost immediately.) • Sera offering a partnership soon: Vivienne gives intel on certain arsehole nobles, The Friends of Red Jenny swoop in and take care of him, and an elf-friendly mage to the Orlesian Court swoops in and everyone’s happy. Vivienne’s response is a curt acceptance, but Sera can see her lips turning up a little. • Sera after Halamshiral and Adamant going to Vivienne, angry about the elves in one and can’t sleep about the other. Each comforting brings results the next day: recently employed families of those that were lost in Halamshiral and a plate of cookies at Sera’s doorstep, a different taste altogether. • Sera throwing a jar of bees at anyone who calls Vivienne any gendered slurs, and Vivienne tearing down anyone who calls Sera any slurs verbally or physically. • Vivienne coming to the aid of Sera in a verbal encounter if she needs it while Sera protects her in battle against enemies unaffected by her magic. •Sera’s pranks become a game between the two, and it’s fun and they enjoy testing each other’s creativity and cunning- though Sera’s easily twice as scared if she actually succeeds in pulling one, since Vivienne’s revenge will be twice as good. • Vivienne deciding to join the others at a game of Diamondback when Sera invites her, and Sera decides just to watch. Soon, the elf is rolling on the floor laughing as Vivienne wins all of their coin and clothes. •Sera and Vivienne having a dynamic relationship that grows from grudging respect to understanding to trust to becoming friends and partners.
