Anyway all of this to say that I had a vision of Uther with recently returned memories like, "let me get this straight. You got married to a women and STILL never had an heir? I should have known letting that treasonous twink into our household was a bad idea". Shakes head, deeply serious. Like the complete vibes of the behind the scenes pics of Uther doing modern things but Arthur is basically having a huge culture shock every time the man opens his mouth and everyone else is unhelpful bc they're just laughing hysterically

Modern Uther reading Arthur to filth and revealing everything about how he always knew Arthur liked men with the utter shamelessness of the average modern parent (fairly cool with it but WILL say some off color things) and teasing Arthur for being too chicken to make a move on someone that literally everyone assumed he was already bedding

IDK if literally anyone else would find this funny but I just would love to see Arthur dealing with everyone he loves being ever so slightly different in the way they talk and act and sometimes it's like they're all in on a joke that he doesn't understand... I can’t stop thinking about this one post who claims that in the last few years the most popular hermits are the ones on the life series, if you’re not in the life series good luck having solo fanart or fics. And they’re right.

False’s popularity has been steady especially due to her domination in mcc and joining empires season 2 but art of her season in hermitcraft? Rare. Especially if it’s solo art cause I’ve seen a lot of False with another hermitcraft such as Ren or Pearl or Gem. She just doesn’t seem to be around as much in the tumblr tags compared to three years ago.

A while back I checked the hermitcraft sub reddit for their top posts, a lot was season 6/7 and there is so much fanart of Keralis, Iskall, Stress and xB! Not just them with other people but solo art! Yes I can still find that here on tumblr but it involves me digging through tags. And boy if you look at the notes compared to a recent solo Grian or solo Scar art it’s nothing. Now you can argue that it’s based on how much they upload but xB uploads regularly and there’s not a lot of hermit fanart compared to him and Grian and the later uploads way less! He has nearly twice the amount of hermitcraft videos as Grian and the motherfucking British man hasn’t uploaded a hermitcraft episode since early September!

But yet I see more hermitcraft fanart of Grian in the last month than xB. I get it because of subscriber count but come on people, xB is more active but nope, bird beats fish.

And like Rendog I would say has constant fanart but when he wasn’t acting as the king on hermitcraft, the time between double and wild life Ren fanart was going down. It was still a lot but because he wasn’t in the life series and slowed down on hermitcraft videos due to real life stuff the art went down.

But if you join the life series then expect twice the amount of love. Gem joins, she then joins a base area that has life series players in and suddenly she skyrockets to be one of the favourite hermits. Ignore that Joe hills or StressMonster has been here for so long, Gem joined the life series therefore she has to be a fan fav.

“Oh but Doc is still popular! Same as Cub!” That’s because they regularly interact with life series players. Cub has Scar and now the permit office workers. He’s not out hanging with Keralis or Hypno a lot like xB. Doc kind of keeps to himself and interacts with nearly everyone but if there’s a storyline it’s gonna be with a life series member. Joe hill is only midly popular due to the mcytblr sexyman comp and his long time friendship with Cleo, another life series member. You don’t see fanart of him with Welsknight or Iskall.

And fucking Iskall man… I saw so much love for him for season 6 and 7 but the moment he had burn out or want making as much content with Mumbo and Grian he just kind of disappeared in fanart and fics. You’re gonna have an angst fic with Grian and only Scar or Mumbo can help him? Dude was so buddy buddy with Iskall where is he?

And lastly when it comes to season 10 of hermitcraft if you’re not part of the Cherry guys or the post office in regard to bases, you’re not getting any attention. Where’s the love for xB’s new and improved ocean monument? You all love guardian!xB yet nothing on his season 10. Where’s the love for the village people? It has so many hermits together but oh there’s only two life series players and one of them hasn’t been in since double life so no love for them.

I’m just tired of the life series being so connected to hermitcraft because it affected the popularity so much…

Flying back to the clearing we found earlier, they land right next to the water, maybe a little too close..

Immediately touching the star, relaxing its wings and closing its eye, its void getting a little less neat and messier.

It was the day. Erebos was going to do it, it was going to go to a server. Which it has decided is going to be the Hermitcraft server for totally no reason (it wants there to be a chance of seeing it's first friend, Torchy).

Shaking its hands out, it carefully changes its void into skin, and creates some extra coverings with some void.

"this'll have to work"

It says, taking it's belongings and traveling in one direction. Taking one hand, Erebos makes a portal that leads into a random forest on the Hermitcraft server.

Suddenly extremely jumpy, it walks through the woods, keeping its wings pressed tightly to its back.

It keeps walking until it hears voices, stopping and looking in the direction of the sounds.

For Chilled I was so torn between Mastermind Rogue and Whispers Bard, since they are both such deception-based classes, but ultimately I thought bard was more true to his goofier side. Charlatan was the obvious choice for his background, and a slight homage to the cardboard shop bit. He also just gives human energy, variant for the higher charisma stat.

For Ze I honestly had no idea. I thought at first maybe Barbarian but none of the subclasses really called to me. I went with Drakewarden Ranger because I want Ze to have a dragon companion. Possibly named Hashbrown. That’s it. He’s a tiefling because of the horns, and I don’t know about background but I thought Sage bc comp-sci degree lol. I liked the artificer idea for this reason but uhhh. Dragon!!!!

So Shubble’s is obvious if you watched Empires (go watch Empires). Circle of Spores is because of S2 with the Evermoore, and she’s a Gnome and a Hermit because of S1 with Shrub. Spores felt right for the Evermoore because of the Necrotic spells, as well as the decay and the Skulkfan135 incident.

what is your character’s path?

engel - preservation ( despite being a galaxy ranger, this guy is more worried about keeping his daughter alive. tired dad fr ).

elke - destruction ( but magical girl style, y'know. )

aastha - abundance ( my self insert calls for her to be a tired medically aligned hermit like me ).

what element type is your character?

engel - imaginary ( like his sleep schedule ).

elke - quantum.

aastha - wind ( the bird motif returns guyssss ).

what are the best team comps for your character? which characters do they synergize well with?

engel - with elke since they are a pair. that and considering he's a shielder? anyone except blade XD. but i'd imagine he'd pair well certain hunt characters since he does provide either bounce or aoe follow up attacks when his shields are hit. so if there are multiple enemies, he does compensate for the hunt's singular hit base.

elke - the brawler. i thought of something like...a reverse blade kit for her XD. the less hurt she is / the more hp she has, the more damage she deals. so yes, any team that is shielder heavy. team comps with aventurine, gepard or engel would do, that or a decent healer.

aastha - as a healer? with any team, tbh. but she works better with erudition characters or burst reliant characters since she does add in in an additional boost of energy and that healing rate reliant on damage dealt on individual enemies. so like...the more targets you hit, the more you heal ( also the hilarity because she'd be...okay with hunt characters. given the hunt and abundance have beef ).

is there an event or story quest associated with your character’s debut? if yes, tell us about it!

engel and elke - depending on how it goes, they will be heavily influencing boothill's storyline ( they're partners, read : gay ) and penacony. engel is mute so he's...not talking that much. so you have elke translating him and boothill with the signature seven year old sass.

aastha - she strikes me more as a recurring gag character because her entire shctick is how she may be considered so normal ( as a medic in the ipc ) but has the craziest shit happening to and around her. i would not take hsr's events well. that stuff would fuck with my sanity XD.

Get that "debut" moniker away from your name. Prove you can sell your shit and keep working.

I'd disagree with this part. Being a "debut author" actually works in your favor, marketing-wise. Because you're the shiny, exciting new thing. Past publishing credentials are only a plus if you're a well-known name with a following.

Source: Been published by two Big Five houses. Before I was picked up by an agent I had published a number of novels and novellas (mostly romance/erotica) through a series of digital-only indie publishers. I made some money (albeit not a lot) through these titles, but they did not in any way help me from the angle of getting an agent or being picked up by a publisher, because I wasn't a big name, and because the book that got me an agent was YA so there wasn't much of a crossover readership.

I don't recommend self-publishing unless you have an existing platform (such as a YouTube channel) with a lot of followers. Otherwise it's like firing a t-shirt cannon into outer space, and it's also easy to waste a lot of money on advertising yourself and SEO stuff. There are so many stories of self-published writers spending hundreds or thousands on advertising and getting like, five sales as a result. Like, self-published books do occasionally get popular and go viral but these are extreme statistical outliers. Unfortunately it is just really hard to make money on books these days. Even big publishers kind of suck at it. Many books don't earn out their advances.

I do agree with the part about how important comps are. Agents and editors don't like to take risks, they are mainly trying to jump on existing trends. You ideally want titles from within the last three years to compare to yours. They shouldn't be obscure but they should also not be too big; like, comparing your book to Harry Potter or GoT or LOTR won't get you anywhere. Go to your local library, look at the new stuff, find books that are roughly in the subgenre you are aiming at, books with covers that look sort of how you imagine your cover looking, read them, and if they fit, use them as comps when you query. Say specifically what it is about those books that overlap with yours. i.e. the aesthetic, the setting, themes, etc.

Editing to add: yes, being in the right social circles does help you get published (which is bad for me because I'm a hermit) but I'd argue that knowing the market and the specific market niche you fit into and being able to write a good piece of marketing copy (i.e. your query letter) which displays your understanding of market forces is actually just as important as social status and more important than the "objective quality" of your writing. And while it can be soul-crushing and involve some creative compromises, it is a skill that you can actually learn, one that will concretely impact your chances.

I find it personally offensive how many bad writers can get published so easily.

I hate how hermit fans keep saying that season 10 will end soon “there’s nothing going on” my guy Scar just started on his mega base, Impulse hasn’t got his parkour game ready yet, Doc is still working on his poker game and many others like False, Keralis, xB and so on are still working on their bases.

Hell we haven’t even gotten a TCG comp yet! That’s due to Beef becoming a father and having Joe Hills take over while he works on being a dad, but my point still stands.

My theory on why people are like this is due to there not being an overachieving build that everyone is talking about, especially the hermits. Point being, decked out 2. You knew the season was over once decked out 2 closed up shops, same thing will happy when Impulse closes his game, a game that hasn’t even been fully built yet.

Along with that, hermitcraft makes them money, lots of it. The series is the main source of income for a lot of the hermits, so ending it soon is a terrible idea. Along with having to wait for minecraft to update. It’s better to start a season with all of the new things than just waiting and waiting for mojang to update.
