So I just saw a post by a random personal blog that said “don’t follow me if we never even had a conversation before” and?????? Not to be rude but literally what the fuck??????????
I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.
Also, I’m legit confused. Is this how follow culture works right now? It was worded like it’s common sense but is that really a thing?

Using whump to cope with trauma is valid!
Enjoying whump without having experienced trauma yourself is equally valid!
You do not need a reason to justify enjoying whump. You are not a bad person for enjoying whump. It is fictional. There is not a single thing you can write about in a fictional scenario that makes you a bad person. This community is wonderful and you are all wonderful, lovely people <3 Tag everything appropriately and live without shame

...and the words are so unusual coming from Caretaker of all people, Caretaker who was never this gentle, who never made promises he couldn’t keep, that Whumpee comes back to reality with all the force of breaking through a cresting wave as he realises he might have just gotten them both killed.
I’m sorry, Whumpee mouths helplessly, and Caretaker just nods with a grim set to his mouth as he grabs Whumpee’s hand and holds it tight.
WIP checkpoint!
reblog this with the last 3 sentences you wrote from your current WIP

I love whumpees who are terrified of caretaker.
Maybe they don't know them. Maybe they've seen what caretaker's capable of; or wtinessed what they've done. Whumpee doesn't trust them and wants nothing to do with them.
But in the end, caretaker was the only one who came for them. They pulled whumpee out of the bloody mess whumper left them in as whumpee clung to caretaker's neck trembling.

Restraints in whump
Strapped to a metal table, staring into the luminescent lights on the ceiling.
Handcuffed to a hospital bed to prevent an escape attempt.
A leather muzzle strapped to the face on account of the subject’s “aggression”.
Ropes binding wrists and ankles to a chair, carving into skin.
A metal collar connected to a chain which can be used to pull the captive around.
Strong arms wrapped around someone until they stop fighting.
Chains around ankles or wrists, being pulled along by captors as they march a prisoner through the streets.
Confined to a straight jacket in a padded cell after lashing out against staff members.
A single chain connected from the ankle to a wall, limiting movement and serving as a constant reminder that there’s no escape.

can I get some deranged non-con prompts please🙏
trigger warning: violence, rape / non-con
NON-CON PROMPTS FOR WRITERS WHO WRITE DARK FICTION
whumpee assaulted in front of caretakers while caretakers are not able to do anything but watch.
caretaker forced to assault whumpee, otherwise whumper will do it themself, and it will be worse.
whumper cutting whumpee every time they assault them until whumpee's skin is covered in cuts.
whumper branding / tattooing their own name onto whumpee's skin to declare ownership.
whumper sharing whumpee with whumper's friends and letting those friends brand / tattoo their names onto whumpee's skin.
whumper telling whumpee they will only stop the assault when whumpee reaches an orgasm. otherwise the assault will go on nonstop.
whumper sending whumpee's friends and family the videos of the assault.
whumper drugging whumpee, so that it looks like whumpee enjoys the sex, and filming it; a perfect way to keep whumpee under their control (they will send the video to whumpee's partner if whumpee does not behave).
whumper breaking / burning whumpee's legs so whumpee cannot escape.
whumper forcing whumpee to pleasure them, whumpee will only get to eat if they can make whumper satisfied.
whumper keeping whumpee in a tiny dog cage without allowing whumpee to wear any clothes (thus they're naked all the time).
internal bleeding from the assault.
whumpee losing control of their muscles from the repeated assault.
whumpee left with bruises, cuts and bite marks all over their body, a constant reminder of what happened.

Characters with Invisible Disabilities: A Guideline
So, firstly a quick disclaimer that everyone experiences disabilities differently, even if they have the same diagnosis. It’s also the case that severity levels differ drastically between individuals with disabilities (again, even if they have the same diagnosis). This guideline is based off of my own personal experiences, and I’m not a medical expert, just someone who has been chronically ill since 16 and disabled since 18.
@nightingalesandnorco I think you might be interested in this series of mine! (Let me know if you’d like me to remove your tag). If you want to re-do/comment on any of this with your Actual Medical Knowledge, be my guest.
I’ve had a couple dms about if I’m going to be starting a tag list for my disabled characters [in whump] series, so if anyone would like to be added just let me know :)
It's a bit long, so below the cut!
Some vocabulary:
Invisible disabilities: It’s exactly what it sounds like. Not all disabled people are visibly disabled. In fact, some people are able to masquerade as fully able-bodied when they’re out of the house for shorts amounts of time. Yes, there are lots of people who use canes, or wheelchairs, or have a visible physical disability. But there’s far more people than you think with invisible disabilities! Examples include POTS, fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, etc.
Chronic illnesses and conditions: You guessed it: it’s an illness that’s chronic. Some chronic illnesses and other conditions are just things that the character has to live with. You can have them complain, or have it occasionally be an issue plot-wise (“I can’t go, I’ve got a migraine right now. Do the mission without me”) but it likely won’t impact the character on a daily basis outside of small habits or accomodations made by the character. For me, my arthritis is a chronic condition, but it’s managed with medication and I have adjusted some aspects of my life accordingly (for example, I know that playing guitar, handwriting, or even the scrolling motion will make the joints in my fingers hurt, and so I’ve figured out how long I can safely and painlessly do each activity and purposely stick within these limits) I don’t consider it to be one of my disabilities. However, for some people, arthritis can fully paralyse that limb or cause horrible pain, and they might classify it as a disability. Generally, once a chronic conditions starts negatively impacting a person’s daily life to such an extent that it starts impairing their ability to socialise, go to work/school, or complete necessary activities, it becomes a disability. This distinction is made by the person themselves and rarely by a doctor - as such, since everyone has different thresholds for pain tolerance and daily hindrances, everyone has a different point at which they will start to consider themselves ‘disabled’. Some never do. Everyone has a different set of vocabulary regarding what they’re comfortable with in relation to their own conditions, and if you have more than one disabled character remember that they will definitely think & talk about their conditions in different ways. Someone who gets migraines frequently might call it an unfortunate fact of life, while others would call it a chronic condition and others still would consider it to be a disability.
Mobility aids: examples include wheelchairs, canes (of which there are multiple types! Do your research based on your character and what you think would benefit them), joint braces, and any number of things. Also: a lot of wheelchair uses are in fact ambulatory to a certain extent!
Flare-ups and baselines/thresholds: A flare is what can happen when a person is pushed past their threshold or undergoes physical or mental stress, and your body reacts by basically ramping up your pain levels x100. Everyone has different limits that have to be passed before a flare-up happens! And sometimes they just happen with no rhyme or reason. A flare can last hours or days or even weeks before the character is returned to their baseline levels of pain or mobility.
Disabilities look different by the day.
A character can be fine and almost entirely able-bodied one day, and bed-ridden (or close to it) the next. This is often triggered by physical or mental stress and doesn’t necessarily correspond to a flare-up, or indicate that one is starting, but it can.
If your character needs to be physically active or in a high-stress situation, let them feel the consequences afterwards with a flare or simply just needing to sleep for 24 hours straight.
A character who wears or uses mobility aids won’t necessarily need them every day. Personally, I have wrist and knee braces and can go weeks without wearing any of them. Then, if I have any physical or mental stressors that push me past my limit, it’s likely I’ll need all 4 braces for 72 hours straight, at minimum. Sometimes, only one or two braces are needed.
Disabilities can impact what clothes people wear, or their speech patterns! For me, I tend to wear shorts and tank-tops whenever possible due to my tendency to faint or throw up if I overheat (shoutout my inability to regulate temperature). If I’m leaving the house, I often hide my leg braces under baggy pants. My speech pattern slurs and slows/tapers off mid sentence due to brain fog - not always, but when I’m tired or mentally exhausted finishing a full sentence is a struggle.
As I said before: some people with invisible disabilities will almost always mobility aids, or cannulas, or other types of support! I’m lucky enough to be mostly able-bodied even though I’m pretty much housebound, so I’m just writing what I know.
Characters who don’t have mobility aids will still unconsciously seek out support: leaning on tables or walls, gripping onto things for support when standing/sitting, etc.
Characters with autoimmune diseases might be entirely fine until they catch a cold, or are exposed to another character who’s sick. At which point the disabled character gets laid out for the better part of a month. This is often because autoimmune diseases are treated with medications that have the side effect of acting as a [often mild, but that’s all it takes] immunosuppressant. If you want to have a character who’s immunocompromised, you could build it into their character by having them wear a mask most of the time, or even being agoraphobic. I’m immunocompromised due to my meds and am the least cautious person you could probably ever meet. And let me tell you when I get a common cold, I’m bed-ridden sick for 2-3 weeks and not back to my baseline levels for another 2-3 weeks after that.
On that note: characters will treat themselves with varying levels of care. There are some who immediately look for solutions and try everything, while others just complain a bit but not make any move to improve their situation. For characters with multiple disabilities, it’s likely that they’ll consider each one quite differently. In my case, I couldn’t give less of a shit about the majority of my conditions and will fully ignore my body’s warning signs in favour of acting like I’m able-bodied. And then there’s two conditions of mine where I take them into account in any decision I make, and that have changed my life in ways I’m not even going to get into right now.
Honestly, the thing that most able-bodied writers get wrong when writing characters with invisible disabilities is that they seem to think we just…constantly bring up our disabilities in conversation. Sure, it comes up when discussing plans/etc or with trusted friends/family members, but it’s not our only personality trait. It’s just a part of our lives!! We make jokes about it, we accomodate for it, and we move on with our days. And on that note: it’s actually really common for characters with disabilities to casually mention something to a newer friend and fully forget that it isn’t a normal thing in most people’s lives. The number of “wait no I’m okay don’t call the hospital” moments I’ve had because I accidentally make a joke or say something like ‘yeah no my pulse is X right now’ and scare the shit out of some poor able-bodied acquaintance-
Your disabled character might need to be accommodated by other characters. Close friends and family won’t even think twice or need to be reminded about it. Accomodations can be small ‘hey can you reach this for me so I don’t have to stand up’ or they can be a big lifestyle adjustment. I’m more than happy to go into detail about the types of accomodations I have, and my other disabled friends have, if you need ideas :)
You’re more likely to see a character rubbing at sore joints, taking painkillers, or using an ice pack than you are to see them complain or bring up their pain/issue to someone else. We’re used to this. We manage.
Our pain levels are skewed!! If your character is being treated for whump/battle wounds by a medic or caretaker, make sure to emphasise how utterly fucked up our pain levels are. You’d think we’d have a higher tolerance, but in fact a lot of us (or me, at least) simultaneously have hypersensitive pain responses and also utterly no clue how to answer the ‘0-10’ pain scale question.
This is still a work in progress, but that’s it for now :) If anyone would like to hear more about how a specific disability might impact their character, I’ll answer as best I can or else redirect you to the information elsewhere.
