CELEBRITY FASHION COLLABORATIONS
this is nothing new, but i’ve realized that collaborative collections from designer brands have become highly sought after. One prime example is yeezy sneakers which are a collaboration between Kanye west and Adidas. although these sneakers only retail for $200 they sell out very quickly because the company produces a limited amount. These shoes can then be resold for $1000. another collaboration that was released recently was ovo x Canada Goose. there was a selection of bomber coats and winter hats released with designs specific to this collection. The pieces retailed for the close to $1000 in coats and around $300 in hats, however the items sold out online very quickly. If you are interested in getting rare designer items i recommend either regularly checking their social media pages and joining email lists or buying the items off of grailed. sorry once again i still don’t have auto capitalization on so a bunch of things aren’t capitalized.

WEARING CARDIGANS/JACKETS AS TOPS
Over the past few months i’ve noticed the increase in people wearing cardigans and bomber jackets as tops. This doesn’t just mean they have them completely zipped up if it’s a bomber jacket, but they wear them so that their shoulders are exposed and zip them so that it stays in place. lol i honestly don’t know if i explained that well enough for you to understand, but if you still don’t get it just look at the pictures in my next post. Anyways i really enjoy this trend because it offers a completely new way to wear an item of clothing that not many people think of. People also have been doing this with button up shirts and i think it looks just as good, and incorporated the trend of off the shoulder clothing very nicely. (sorry i just changed my phone to turn off auto capitalization so a lot of letters should be capitalized but they’re not yikes!)

PUFFER COATS
Puffer coats are nothing new to winter, but so many popular brands have designed their own spin off of the classic winter jacket. Whether it is changing the color, cut, or material the coat is made from different labels are developing innovative pieces using preexisting trends like: velvet, and bright colors. FentyxPuma has launched a very popular coat that is orange and incorporates the flared sleeve and cropped trends. Puffer coats retail for an extreme price range. There are brands like Moncler and Canada Goose, and then there are brands like Urban Outfitters and H&M that feature their own takes on the classic puffer coat. Some of my favorites by Urban Outfitters are their velvet puffer coats that come in multiple different colors; they also offer a red corduroy cropped coat that is an perfect statement piece for winter 2017-18. Although winter will be ending in the next few months I hope that this trend carries on to next year.

LAYERING
A huge trend I have noticed this winter is LAYERING. Whether it is multiple coats, shirts or even bottoms everyone is layering this season. I particularly love this trend because it means I can wear some of my summery pieces in the winter. Some ways I have introduced this into my outfits is by wearing t-shirts, tanks, and even sweaters over turtlenecks. The combination of the high neck and a low necked piece can creates an entire new look which usually ends up seeming high fashion. Another way I have utilized this trend is by layering different jackets over top each other. Like, a sweatshirt and a denim jacket or a puffer coat. The differences in the textures of each piece will stand out and draw positive attention to your look.

T-SHIRTS
I honestly don’t know how or why this has become a trend, but I’m not complaining. Wearing simple brand t-shirts whether it’s from a concert or just a trendy brand it is automatically very acceptable to wear during the day. This trend had been adopted mostly by celebrities because they are the ones who can mostly afford these t-shirts from designer brands. I’ve noticed that more specifically Gucci shirts have gained a lot of popularity and immediately make any outfit look expensive and nice. Other brands that have more mainstream graphic Ts are Adidas and other sports brands. Weirdly, all of these trendy t-shirts cost from around $20- $700 depending on the prestige of the brand. Some people get lucky and will find designer brand shirts for very cheap in thrift stores.

DENIM ON DENIM
Denim on denim is being revived and I am so excited! Denim on Denim is basically just a denim jacket with matching denim jeans and although it may sound a little tacky if you are not already familiar with the look, it actually looks extremely put together and chic. One faux paw that some people make is wearing two different washes of denim which in the end actually creates the opposite effect and looks messy. I also have noticed a lot of people wearing denim on denim with jean skirts to dress up the look a little for night time which I have to say I love. I know that denim on denim first became popular in the early 2000s mainly when Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears wore a denim ensemble to the American Music Awards in 2001. After 2005 there was a bit of a break, however now it is back and I see it staying for some time.

Feminism in fashion
As feminism has become more relevant with the 2016 presidential election brands have chosen if they would like to support it in any way or keep isolating themselves from these issues. A lot of popular designer brands have been creating shirts with left wing slogans. These shirts have been sported by many A-list celebrities including, A$AP ROCKY, Rihanna and many more. This specific shirt is from Dior, and says “We Should All Be Feminists”. This popularity in the idea of supporting left wing ideologies has almost become a trend for celebrities and social media.

clear/translucent clothing and glossy jackets, a trend

TRANSLUCENT/SHINY CLOTHING
Recently I have noticed that a lot of trendier shops, like ASOS and NastyGal have new clothing that is translucent. One item that has become strikingly poplar across a range of brands is translucent rain coats. Personally, I love this idea because it allows your outfit to be on display while keeping it dry and maintaining a fresh trendy look altogether. Translucent backpacks have also become a staple in many stores. I know you are probably thinking: Why would you want a backpack that is clear? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of a backpack because everyone can just see through?? But no. Clear backpacks look extremely cool and their glossy finishes really add to your look, plus the fact that they match with absolutely everything. That fact alone made me buy one last month. Also last week I went to the Governors Ball music festival and I surprisingly saw at least 50 variations of translucent backpacks.
Some other types of clothing I have seen made translucent so far are pants. I do not think I could ever bring myself to wear them simply because of how uncomfortable they would probably feel when they rub together as you walk, however I think they would be a real look and I salute anyone who successfully pulls them off.
I know that glossy opaque clothing technically isn’t translucent clothing, but I feel like it fits with the trend all the same. Recently, the brand Moncler has greatly improved their consumer audience with help of many celebrities. Moncler is known for their overpriced shiny winter coats, hooded with real fur. Although this trend of wearing Moncler jackets is popping right now, I don’t really see it sticking in the future. However, I do believe that we will continue to see more translucent items hitting the runway in the future.

TREND: glossy makeup
Over the course of 2017 glossy, natural, minimalist makeup has been making a large combat with many new brands. One that has been specifically dominating the market is Glossier. This brand was started in 2010 as a blog called, Intothegloss.com, and eventually transformed into a company. The main driving forces that make Glossier so popular is their message that focuses on highlighting natural beauty using skin care and very low coverage products that create the illusion that the wearer is does not have any makeup on.  Another makeup brand that works very similarly is Milk Makeup. Milk has skyrocketed over the past year after making deals with large companies like Urban Outfitters and Sephora. Although Milk does not focus on natural makeup looks they do highly support confidence and using makeup as a freedom of expression. Both brands are made using all natural ingredients that benefit the skin while doubling as makeup products. Overall, I predict this trend of minimal, no makeup makeup to continue to grow and thrive in the future as these brands continue to impress.
