Issue Essay II
Ozge November 20, 2018
Topic :People's behavior is largely determined by forces not of their own making. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
Every society has rules to protect cultural and social values. People’ behavior can change depending on these rules. Thus, it is true that people's behavior is largely determined by forces, but it is also true that their behavior determined of their own making. Many factors, such as environmental factors, politics, economics and personal interests, have an impact on people's behavior. Due to social rules, people avoid behaving of their own making. We have been told how to behave according to these rules since our childhood. Of course, behaviors should not be disturbing other people, but we should behave the way we like to do. For example, as a child, the parents of the child shouldn't teach the child that you shouldn't talk while elder people are talking. Because it should be given the child think that it is not good to express his idea. Therefore, people will behave with the influence of their family and environment. The behavior of people can depend on many contributing factors like political, economic, social etc. The people's behavior largely depends on these, especially nowadays. For instance, if a person almost every day hears the same political thoughts from her family, she will defend the same political thought as her family do. Otherwise, she may be denied by her family if she behaves differently than them. There are some people who behave differently because of external factors than people who don't behave by forces. These people's behaviors are based on personal interests. For example, there is a student who is unsuccessful and lonely. He needs to be successful, and he can concentrate better by studying with others. Because of his personal interests, this student may be acting friendly and successful. Although people's behavior is largely determined by forces, some other people's behavior determined of their own making. These kinds of people think that they are mature people, so they can behave in the way they know it right.
In conclusion, people's behavior is largely determined by forces due to social rules, political and personal interests.

Argument Essay I
Ozge
November 14, 2018
Topic : The following is a recommendation from the Board of Directors of Monarch Books. "We recommend that Monarch Books open a café in its store. Monarch, having been in business at the same location for more than twenty years, has a large customer base because it is known for its wide selection of books on all subjects. Clearly, opening the café would attract more customers. Space could be made for the café by discontinuing the children's book section, which will probably become less popular given that the most recent national census indicated a significant decline in the percentage of the population under age ten. Opening a café will allow Monarch to attract more customers and better compete with Regal Books, which recently opened its own café." Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation is likely to have the predicted result. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the recommendation.
A Recommendation For Monarch Books
Monarch Books is having been in business which is known for its wide selection of books at the same location for more than twenty years. It may be a good idea that opening a cafe in Monarch Books would perhaps attract more customers. However, this recommendation of the Board of Directors of Monarch Books provides insufficient by analyzing it carefully.
First, the Board of Directors mentions that opening a cafe will attract more customers to the bookstore. Opening the cafe could cause to lose some customers, although it might be true that opening the cafe in the Monarch Books for people's need. Because Monarch Books has been in the same position for many years, it already has a crowded customer base. What if the bookstore had opened the cafe, and it may have a more crowded customer? This more crowded may effect lose its customers that already have. To make strong the Board of Director's argument, they would discuss for developing a business plan while examining with all aspects of opening the cafe.
Next, the Board of Director mentions that the discontinuing the children's book section for children under age ten, the space required to open a cafe will be available. This argument indicates that Monarch Books will appeal to more adult people. If any parents came to the Monarch Books with their children under age ten, what will they do? In this way, discontinuing the children’s book section might negatively affect Monarch Book’s customer base that already had.
Finally, the last argument of the Board of Directors mentions that opening a café will allow Monarch to attract more customers and better compete with Regal Books, which recently opened its own café. Instead of this competition argument, they would discuss and make a business plan that how to gain and improve their customer satisfaction.
In conclusion, the Board of Directors' argument is insufficient. To make strong this argument, the Board of Directors should provide more detailed evidence. In addition, they would improve their argument to save customer that already had and gain more customer.

Issue Essay I
November 7, 2018
Topic : Universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study.
Required Courses
It is efficient for people who want to gain experience in different areas, especially students are in universities, instead of concentrating only on their field, taking some courses outside of their field can improve their imagination, motivation for study, and communication with other people. The recommendation that students should be required to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study other than their fields of study is extremely reasonable.
As it is known, many students prefer universities to be educated in their fields, and they only want to take courses from their own fields. Although they are true, it is better for them to do something in different areas. The fact that a student studying in a numerical field takes courses in the verbal field, or vice versa, helps this student to use both sides of his/her brain, thus exposing the student's imagination. However, it makes the student more imaginative and more successful.
For many students, studying in the same field is boring and inefficient. When an engineer student takes courses such as mathematics, physics, chemistry continuously, the student might be tired of seeing the same field of study after a while. Therefore, the student's efficiency in the course may be inefficient. If a student who takes the course according to the field of her interest in a different field, the student may get her head scattered thanks to this course. Perhaps the area of interest is related to music, art or language, and when the student takes this course, it develops both in the area of the student's interest and motivation in his/her field of study.
As with any situation though, there are always exceptions. Students may think that taking a required course outside the student's field of study is a waste of time. By requiring students to take classes from a broad range of spectrums, universities can help the students narrow down what career path they may want to follow. Many times students may have a preconceived notion of what a subject may be about and not want to try it, yet by requiring it, they may be able to find themselves in a new class with something they may choose to pursue in the future, something they perhaps never would have considered.
In conclusion, universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study. This may be advantageous for students' motivation, development and imagination. At the same time, this may be contributed to the development of communication with other students from different fields.
