It’s incredible to exist out there on the internet and be an actual war crimes prosecutor and see the functionally illiterate masses regurgitate 6 months old propaganda as if their generation didn’t grow up with literal encyclopedia that fits in their pockets that could stop them from humiliating themselves in public with posts like those
When they are under literal court order not to
You’re on your own, genocidaires. Posts like those are what is referred to as “the Eichmann defense” and if Adolf Eichmann is your inspiration I will simply not engage. I know better.

“No Shamrocks for Genocide Joe”: thousands descend upon Belfast to march to the U.S. consulate and protest the co-optation of Irish identity while facilitating a genocide. Belfast 16.03.2024

Once again, Belfast showed up in the thousands to scream for an end to arms trade with Israel, a complicity charge for the U.S., the UK, and Germany, as well as to honour the journalists, aid workers and children who were murdered.
We will continue.

Didn’t have time for many photos as I had a long booked tattoo appointment, but caught the end of the protest, marking 6 months since the beginning of 2023’s Gaza Genocide (because it’s not the first).

I’m just so fucking pissed off man if they can surgically airstrike international volunteer food workers three consecutive times to ensure their operation is wiped out completely what the fuck is left for anyone to say

A reminder that advocating for Palestinian liberation isn’t antisemitic.
It is the most Jewish thing possible.

Right to return exists for all refugees everywhere. A bit sad for this post that they didn’t bother, you know, googling

Is this not an obvious rejection of the premise the state of Israel is supposedly founded upon

On Land Day, thousands descend upon Belfast to demand an end to occupation and an immediate, permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the West Bank. Under chants of “what do we do when Lebanon / Syria / Yemen / Iraq / Palestine is under attack? Stand up fight back”, speakers spoke of the need to humanise Palestinians: not to see them as invincible heroes, but people like you and me who are grieving and feeling pain.

Thank you so much @sweenstar-reblogs - this is exactly it
Being Irish and seeing the eyes on the world currently thinking we can interrupt an ongoing genocide will never not be funny to me, suddenly our shite politics are being heralded on the online
You think Varadkar is the leader of the free world? Eh mate pull a seat over there because we have a funny story
Presenting Sinn Fein as the de facto new PLO? Mon on down we have a few moments to share

Skinty Fia is an okay album but Fontaines is so emblematic of everything that is foregrounded in the Dublin scene (minus the rampant allegations surrounding near-every band): nepotism. Nepotism as far as the eye can see.
At a time that the Free State (*) is in deep economic crisis, with race riots clashing at a time the far right is rising all across Europe once more is absolutely maddening and should in fact be more represented and curated in art. However, because all those bands and artists are actually a bunch of bored rich white boys that simply need something to do with daddy’s money (and that’s not just Fontaines - it’s Modern Love, it’s Lucy McWilliams, etc) - there is no representation of a working class that can’t get a house; that can’t find a living wage; that has been choked to annihilation by the Celtic Tiger; and that is burdened by an ever growing opioid crisis and a government growing more and more distant from non-Dublin circles.
Ireland has become a country of such nauseating inequality, economic, social, racial, and otherwise, yet very very very few are able to speak to those movements bubbling at the surface (namely Bricknasty, coming from Ballymun, and some rappers out of Tallaght) that it never is chronicled. Those who have a message, who have stories and lived experience that deserves to be platformed and shared, must a) be in Dublin, which no one can afford and it fucks the outsiders especially the west coast and b) already be in possession of the means to record and promote.
Those that make it are those who have decided to be radical in those politics at personal cost (Lankum, the Mary Wallopers - heroes) or whose vision is necessarily different from the panopticon because they have an identity that’s marginalized, which is reflected in their body of work (Pillow Queens, Tolu Makay). The rest are high school dropouts droning on and on about how hard lockdown was, and not because of the mass death mind you, but simply because that was the first time they ever suffered a minor inconvenience.
That websites like JOE are glorifying and quirkifying the wanton capitalism of the Celtic Tiger as if it wasn’t the direct source of today’s crash is boring and comes from the same sources. Experiment Ireland outside of your south side banks, and tell me if your music scene actually cares.
Meanwhile the North is full of young bands foaming at the mouth and being super prolific - Problem Patterns, CHALK., Red Eye Pariah - because failing is not an option. Everyone is recording whenever Score Draw has a minute or Sound Advice is quiet. Everyone rehearses in unheated studios in Blackstaff Mills because even if the lift is broken 24/7 it’s affordable.
Anyway. Yeah Fontaines is a good band but I want music that says something from those who have something to say.
(*) I get to say that. Be mad about it and stop voting Fianna Fáil.

I continue to be baffled by the actual antisemitism that is permeating society facilitated by Elon Musk’s raging ego to the detriment of millions of genocide scholars and descendants of survivors, yet the only thing the ADL cares about is whether brown people have human rights
It’s almost as if… there is nothing inherently antisemitic about Palestinian liberation, and antisemitism is real, it just has nothing to do with Palestine. But then that would require people to log off Twitter and we all know that’s not going to happen

Varadkar is no hero, he absolutely did not speak on behalf of Palestinians, he was asked to boycott the White House and went anyway and now he’s no longer Taoiseach.
And yet someone calling themselves “nerdy” proves to still believe that Varadkar’s whitewashed face saving move is better than online discourse. Agreed with Doire. Keep my country out of your mouth, a genocide is a genocide.

Theme of the Palestine protest this week: healthcare workers testifying of the effects of starvation. Amnesty International’s Patrick Corrigan talked about the nature of apartheid and the weight carried by our collective historical knowledge: we have a duty to prevent.
