Tumblr cos'è, come funziona e perché è così popolare

Tumblr cos'è, come funziona e come riesce ad attirare 170 milioni di utenti unici al mese

Se Tumblr lo visitano 168 milioni di persone ogni mese, varrà pure la pena dargli un’occhiata no? Con questi numeri (fonte Quanticast) oggi Tumblr è uno dei primi dieci siti più visitati al mondo. Per definizione Tumblr è una piattaforma di microblogging. La differenza con Twitter è che su Tumblr hai davvero il tuo sito, il tuo blog dove puoi scrivere (quanto vuoi), linkare articoli interessanti trovati in rete, postare foto e video tutto con un semplice bottone da installare nel browser.

Immaginate di avere un blog senza doverlo scrivere: non sarebbe cool? Qualche tempo fa vi avevo raccontato come creare un blog usando solo i social network con Overblog, mentre oggi vi propongo di provare Tumblr. Che, per inciso, fra le migliori piattaforme per aprire blog è quella che mi piace di più. Anche perché è inserito all’interno di un social network nato per caso, come mi ha raccontato il suo fondatore David Karp quando l’ho incontrato a febbraio per un’intervista. Da allora a oggi Tumblr è cresciuto moltissimo: a inizio anno infatti aveva “solo” 120 milioni di utenti al mese.

Uno dei motivi del successo di Tumblr è stata la valorizzazione delle immagini, che oggi in rete e non solo è divenuto un tema dominante. Basti pensare al successo di Instagram e soprattutto a quello di Followgram, nato come esperimento e cresciuto fino a un milione di utenti in dodici mesi. Uno dei fattori di boost di Tumblr non a caso sono state le elezioni presidenziali e non solo perché pure Obama ha iniziato a usarlo, ma perché i MEME che si sono generati durante queste sono spesso divenuti virali grazie al network. Ogni post su Tumblr infatti viene ripubblicato in media nove volte. Si può fare, tranquilli, è come il retweet. Tutto questo nonostante Twitter abbia vietato agli utenti di Tumblr di importare i propri contatti per trovare gli amici (ma si può fare tramite Gmail).

Vi è venuta voglia di aprire un account su Tumblr? È semplicissimo: basta registrarsi, scegliere un tema e cominciare a postare. Dalle impostazioni del tema potete personalizzare il  sito aggiungendo social, Google Analytics e mille altre cose che variano a seconda dei temi. Io con Tumblr ci ho fatto il mio sito personale www.silviogulizia.it, semplicemente comprando un tema personalizzabile, modificando qualche riga di codice e facendo puntare il mio dominio direttamente al mio account Tumblr. Nella dashboard vedrete scorrere tutti i post dei blog che avete scelto di seguire, proprio come su Twitter.
