Here’s my animation for the opening credits of Castlevania without the bells and whistles of compositing.
Not only did I get to develop the style for this part, but it’s the only piece of animation in the show where my original drawings aired without any sort of clean up.
Out of everything I did for the first season of Castlevania, this was the part I had the most control over.

Here’s my rough animation for cyclops sequence from Castlevania. I got to storyboard this sequence as well, which was a first for me. Up until then I’d never had that level of control over anything I’d worked on in the animation industry.
Out of everything I did for season one, this is by far what I worked the hardest on. I’m glad I’m finally getting to show it.

Here’s another round of my rough animation for Castlevania. I animated most of these during the revision process to help along scenes we wanted a little more impact from. Since they were scattered throughout the episodes, I thought I’d do a side by side so you can see how the roughs got translated into the final product.
Next week I’ll post the sequence where the majority of my animation effort went. I hope you’ll look forward to it.

I finally got clearance to show my rough animation from Castlevania! I did a lot of animation for this show so I’m going to release these through several posts each week, starting with this one.
For the Alucard vs Trevor sequence there wasn’t enough time in the schedule for me to finish out the animation, so I completed a first pass and the drawings were sent over to Korea for the artists at MUA Film to to tie down.

Castlevania is finally here and I can finally post this Netflix banner I drew for it!
So much effort, so much passion, and so many all-nighters went into this series and I am so proud to have worked with the talented and dedicated people at Powerhouse on it.
I sincerely hope that you’ll enjoy it.

These are some of the earliest sketches I did of Trevor Belmont! The full body image was the sketch that solidifies his direction after a bunch of drawings that weren’t quite “there”. Once I put that sketch down, everything else came easy!
After his design was closer to final I started sketching expressions, trying to squeeze that grim-but-sexy look out of every angle I could. Trevor’s actually one of the harder characters for everyone to draw, and he’s ended up having expressions that go to more extremes than some other characters for humor, so I often have to supply drawings for every non-neutral expression.

Small sampling of key drawings provides of Trevor to help establish his look and personality early on in episode 2! Goofy Trevors are the most important thing.

The opening of episode 1 was an area I expended a good amount of effort providing keys, draw-overs, and direct model reference for. Nailing down Dracula’s expressions is still one of the highlights of working on season 1 for me!

I often provide key drawings for important shots or difficult expressions, or during retakes when we need to improve a shot that needs some extra love. Here’s a little of that love I gave to some shirtless Alucard shots back during episode 4’s production.
