Who would you say are modern classic novelists?
I’m going to list contemporary writers rather than go for the whole definition of modernity vs. contemporary and modernists authors, since I think your ask answered my saying that for me, Atwood’s works were not modern classics.
Again, I don’t read a lot of contemporary literature so my list is far from exhaustive.
Umberto Eco, Donna Tartt, Louise Glück, Houellebecq, Christa Wolf, Jeffrey Eugenides, Anne Carson, Haruki Murakami, Mark Z. Danielewski, Heinrich Böll, perhaps Junot Diaz although I have only read excerpts, Le Clézio, Bertold Brecht, Seamus Heaney, Toni Morrison…

Hi! Could you recommend me some books similar to The Secret History? Thanks xx
I don’t think I’ve found a book similar to The Secret History in a satisfying way, but you can still check out those and hope for the best :
Brideshead Revisited, Evelyn WaughThe Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar WildeRebecca, Daphné du MaurierThe Basic Eight, Daniel HandlerThe Flies, Jean-Paul SartreCoriolanus, ShakespeareBakkhai, Euripides (tr. Anne Carson)Crime and Punishment, DostoyevskyThe Great Gatsby, Scott FitzgeraldAtonement, Ian McEwanAlias Grace, Margaret AtwoodThe Name of The Rose, Umberto EcoThe Castle of Argol, Julien Gracq
These are far-fetched but they do share similarities, and especially a morbid longing for the picturesque at all cost.

What I think it means to live a creative life.
I believe living a creative life is one of the happiest ways you can live. The key factor in this, or at least this is what I do, is to stay ‘inspired.’ Not in the way big genius way of waiting for inspiration to strike like the ‘lone genius’ as @austinkleon puts it but more so a way staying humbly excited about life and finding wonder and joy in small moments of even the most ordinary parts of your life.
I believe art is in every moment, it can be at the high points like writing a novel or meeting the love of your life but it also can be in the low points or ordinary moments like pouring a cup of coffee in the morning (I love waking up and setting up my french press while the smell of coffee begins to drift through my little studio apartment) or even while your sitting in traffic or waiting in line at the DMV. It is about tapping into those small moments we tend to overlook and ask- How can I turn this into an inspired moment? Because for me it can shift my whole day around, what was once a day of mindless chores could be turned into a day of curiosity and observing which in return always helps me filter the world into my work in the best ways.
You can make everything in your life art.
I’m not much of kid person but I do marvel at how children spend their days in wonder and curiosity. I see them becoming absorbed in squirrel burying a nut or running up a tree at the park, all the while the parent is trying to hurry them up because they have somewhere to be, but the child doesn't- it could care less about the routine of the day. Dogs are also wonderful examples, they are almost always in state of happiness because they live in the moment, the only time a dog isn't happy typically is if it's getting scolded by its owner or maybe feeling sick.
What I am getting at is this- in a society that is moving at such a fast pace and social media contributing to so much anxiety and depression, I believe its important to know how your extraordinary your ordinary life is. Your life is what you make it so fill those little moments with a mindset that makes you happy. Your morning could just be you waking up to your alarm and snoozing it ten times then groaning and rolling out of bed at the last minute while you rush to get ready you eat a breakfast bar then notice its raining so your automatically believe its going to be a shit day then you get stuck in traffic and you listen to the news, which would make anyone depressed and anxious at this point, all the while scrolling through instagram to look at lives of people who are ‘living the dream.’
Also, your morning could be more like this. You wake up at the sound of that first alarm because you want to have some extra time to maybe meditate or journal. You put some light music on and you sip your coffee while sitting in your favorite spot watching the rain fall, you notice how rainy mornings have a certain cozy factor that sunny mornings just don’t have and you smile to yourself in gratitude of the quiet drizzle and the soft music of your morning. You make your favorite work day breakfast then you get ready and put on a slightly funky outfit that makes you smile because you feel so good in it. You hid out for work and notice there's traffic so you put a podcast on and end up devouring the whole thing and it sets a type of theme for your day.
Obviously your day could look however, maybe you have kids or are a caretaker but I truly believe that you can somehow incorporate something similar into your routine.
I believe we can live an inspired life in almost every moment.
This is why I am starting this blog, I chose tumblr because of how easy it is and I am just going to begin writing as much as I can because its one of the things that make me happy. I am not doing it to make money or to gain a huge following, I am doing this for me.

Draw the art you want to see, start the business you want to run, play the music you want to hear, write the books you want to read, build the products you want to use – do the work you want to see done.
