im here to take advantage of your big following with likely a bunch of hunger games fans who think critically about it

im trying really carefully to plan out how to present the theme to the kids at camp, bc while the theme is perfect for practicing survival skills, its mainly about totality and tyranny and we wanna keep that and make the kids take away the right lessons from it

every day we play the kids a little 5 - 15 minute scenes to move to story along

im really struggling with finding the right way/words to show why katniss kills coin in the end, so i wanna ask you and anyone else who wants to respond, for any ideas on how to go about, id be really glad

(im also open to any tips on how to handle any other parts of the story, id love to have more povs)

I don't actually know how deep into this you're going with the kids or if you're including all the details, but I'm going to assume for this you're able to include pretty much all details included in the books directly so:

in my mind I think the easiest way to explain why Katniss kills Coin is because Coin was setting herself up to be another Snow. You can point out how, while she was the elected President of 13, she wasn't actually democratically elected to lead Panem after the revolution and instead just declared herself the 'interim' president, but didn't give a date for when they could hold a proper election. You can also point out that she pushed the idea for a new Hunger Games with the kids of the Capitol, showing that she didn't actually care for the lives of innocent children at all and instead was viewing Capitol children exactly how Snow viewed District children. And of course you can tie this in with the way Coin used the 'gift' bombs to kill Capitol children and her own District 13 medics, cementing that she didn't care about the innocent lives lost and only wanted to secure power for herself

basically I think your best bet would be to just try and highlight how similar Coin and Snow actually were despite Coin claiming otherwise, and how Katniss saw this and knew that if she didn't do something then Coin would just become the next Snow

rose!crimeboys really goes crazy like I'm borrowing from so many different c!crime eras to create this dynamic and it's so fun to play around with. and god yeah, tommy realizing he didn't miss home only when he actually did miss wilbur arghhhh that kid has been through so much already he doesn't deserve this

literally the entire conversation between wilbur, phil, and techno was so funny to me. no the homophobia isn't the issue it's quackity. and phil has totally known his son has had a massive crush on quackity for years now so he's not even surprised

ROSE!NIKI MY LOVE god I love writing her so much she's suffering soooo much. I'm so glad you see the succession vibes because this fic was actually largely inspired by succession. literally when I first came up with this concept what I was going for was house of the dragon mixed with succession. niki is absolutely the most competent ruler of the three and is the very obvious choice, but unfortunately for sam he's got a very persuasive consil telling him otherwise so we'll have to see how things turn out :)

hunger games fic yooooo

i love haymitch so fucking much i keep thinking about him so this fic was perfect

and our camp theme this year is hunger games and im in charge so its great motivation for me

also, cant believe i forgot i didnt finish a chapter of rose (only read the rocketduo part bc i couldnt wait bc its rocketduo) until another one came out

ive been lost in the sauce of having so much free time and am currently reading like five different things (i blame spruce and snowflake)

but i caught up on rose! and its so good! what a cliffhanger!

i think the letter is from bagi, i really want it to be from bagi, i want her to fucking haunt wilbur, itd be hilarious

and it can also mean that quackity is the first one to play political games in their relationship, which i didnt expect but would be very interesting

also niki pov is super interesting, especially since we dont actually see everything shes thinking, like she could absolutely have planned that attack on tommy or something and we wouldnt know, lulled into false security from having seen her pov

and phil and techno getting upset about wilbur thinking they are homophobic was amazing, i loved it

it's the summer of being hunger games pilled for all of us I guess :D

I loveeeee writing niki's pov but not including most of what she's actually thinking. limited third person POV is so fun to play around with especially in stories like these with unreliable narrators and lots of scheming going on

I was gonna say this in my last ask but thank you so much for continuing to update this fic. It's such a great story and it always makes my day when you update it. I won't go into details but I've been dealing with a lot of medical bullshit (apparently having a 17.5 inch tumor in your abdomen isn't the best feeling in the world, who knew?) but this fic helps a lot, getting lost in a story is probably one of the best coping mechanisms out there lol.

LMAO YEAH there's this running theme where wilbur is more intimidated by phil than he really needs to be, which definitely says something about the way phil raised him but at this point in his life phil definitely does trust his son (at least to an extent). wilbur just has extreme anxiety about a Lot of things

I don't know if they're the right words but there's something very idk... foreboding? ominous? about how casually Wilbur makes decisions on Tommy's behalf. Like 'oh yeah, if it's up to Tommy then it's actually up to me' and 'I won't get anything out of Jack being reinstated so eh, it's not like he performed well at his job anyway' etc. I don't know if you've ever played the Ace Attorney trilogy but when I got to the end of that section, Dahlia's dismissive hair flicking sprite entered my mind.

Either way, Wilbur being at the height of his influence over Tommy is very fun considering everything seems to be on the verge of crashing down around him and his dad because I bet Quackity's letter is going to be about Schlatt's murder in some way.

Same anon from before <3 Honestly, rereading it just brings me a lot of joy, like, the dynamics in it are portrayed so well, and the whole aesthetic?? Tommy's drawings?? That whole art style is so?? The little tidbits that mention when Tommy was younger portray a sibling relationship with a big age gap so well. My youngest sibling is like 8 years younger than me and I could relate lol

aaaa thank you so much. it also makes me so happy when I see people complimenting my descriptions of tommy's art style. I wanted his art to feel unique and fun. it's so clear in my head, if only I knew how to draw well enough to show you all rip

also for the most part, my inspiration for the fic was my relationship with my ex-stepbrother (although we never reunited unlike tommy and wilbur) so a lot of the flashbacks were taken from the dynamic I had with him when I was young, although our age difference was only 4 years not 8. I did also take inspiration from friends I've had who do have big age gaps with their younger siblings and how I saw them interacting so I'm glad that felt realistic to you!!

not sure if this has been asked before (apologies if its been answered already) but have you ever thought about how sbi would meet tommy in songs of change?

im aware its a really old fic of yours but its also one of my favorites and i was just curious (not a push o get you to write a sequal or anything, i just wanted to know if you had any ideas beforehand /gen)

honestly I never thought much about this till you sent in this ask because I never planned on writing a sequel, so I've been turning over ideas in my head for how tommy would meet sbi in that fic.

I think I would say that tommy meeting sbi would be like. polar opposite in vibes to how wil met phil and techo. maybe one night tommy is out fucking around on a rock jetty or something and he falls in the water and nearly drowns but wilbur happens to be nearby so he saves him, yknow typical mer type story, but after waking up on the beach half-drowned tommy becomes obsessed with finding this mermaid because he knows what that blurry shape in the water he saw was before he passed out. wilbur has absolutely no interest in this kid, he's not stranded on a desert island like wilbur was so why should he care? but when wilbur doesn't come near the shore for another few days tommy decides to throw himself in the water voluntarily (he can't swim) and almost drowns again. forcing wilbur to save him. again.

cue a comedic series of wil not wanting to let this kid kill himself but also absolutely despising him while every time he rescues tommy tommy just ends up rattling off hundreds of questions about mer. wilbur tries to pretend he can't speak english and only speaks mer language but at one point he's like "for the love of god shut the fuck up" and tommy is like "YOU DO SPEAK ENGLISH I FUCKING KNEW IT"

phil thinks the situation is hilarious. techno is like "I mean you saved him the first time but if the kid drowns because he willingly threw himself in the water then the kid drowns it's not our fault." the main reason they end up agreeing to turn him into a mer (once he finds out wil used to be human starts asking nonstop) is because he won't be able to drown himself anymore. (also they eventually all do end up growing fond of him lmao)
