Tell No One
It has been quite a while since I have posted anything but nothing was worth posting about until this book. It is Tell No One by Harlan Coben. A while ago a friend lent me this book and told me that I needed to read it when I had nothing else to do so today was that day. I have been quite busy until now and I finally decided to read it. :) I am now in love with Harlan Coben! Wooohooo! I absolutely loved this book. Synopsis:
For Dr. David Beck, the loss was shattering. And every day for the past eight years, he has relived the horror of what happened. The gleaming lake. The pale moonlight. The piercing screams. The night his wife was taken. The last night he saw her alive. Everyone tells him it's time to move on, to forget the past once and for all. But for David Beck, there can be no closure. A message has appeared on his computer, a phrase only he and his dead wife know. Suddenly Beck is taunted with the impossible—that somewhere, somehow, Elizabeth is alive. Beck has been warned to tell no one. And he doesn't. Instead, he runs from the people he trusts the most, plunging headlong into a search for the shadowy figure whose messages hold out a desperate hope. But already Beck is being hunted down. He's headed straight into the heart of a dark and deadly secret—and someone intends to stop him before he gets there.
So, I read this book in a day. My friend was right to tell me to read it when I didn't have anything else to do because I couldn't put it down. I am really into crime and mystery so this book was perfect. It has been a while since I have found an author who writes really good mystery other than James Patterson. I am really glad that I read this book because it was just so fascinating! It pulled me in from the beginning and didn't let me go until I had read the last words on page 370. It was a compelling read and the characters were fantastic. I would get little clues as to who did what and I would think I knew who did it but then all of a sudden something happens and I find out that my suspicions were totally wrong. This book wouldn't let me go and I would strongly suggest that if you like mystery or crime then you should read this book.

The Handmaid's Tale
I had to read this book for one of my classes and I absolutely loved it! :) I always hate reading books for classes because they are almost always boring and dry. This book is not either one. I will say that it is kind of a weird concept at first but once you start reading you will fall in love with it... hopefully. Synopsis:
Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead, serving in the household of the enigmatic Commander and his bitter wife. She may go out once a day to markets whose signs are now pictures because women are not allowed to read. She must pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, for in a time of declining birthrates her value lies in her fertility, and failure means exile to the dangerously polluted Colonies. Offred can remember a time when she lived with her husband and daughter and had a job, before she lost even her own name. Now she navigates the intimate secrets of those who control her every move, risking her life in breaking the rules.
Margaret Atwood sucks you into Offred's world and it just makes you want more. I will say that I wasn't thrilled with the ending but I'm not going to say anything more and ruin it for anybody who hasn't read it. It can get a little slow and sometimes confusing but if you push through you will be pleased. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. I will leave you to your own interpretations and you are welcome to send me suggestions and thoughts.

A Walk to Remember
I finished another Nicholas Sparks book.:) I have seen this movie like 10 times and have wanted to read the book for the longest time. As I started reading I realized that the book and the movie weren't very similar. If you loved the movie you will definitely love the book and vise versa. The two were just not very similar at some points. I'm not going to give away those points so here is the synopsis:
There was a time when the world was sweeter....when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats.... Every April, when the wind smells of both the sea and lilacs, Landon Carter remembers 1958, his last year at Beaufort High. Landon had dated a girl or two, and even once sworn that he'd been in love. Certainly the last person he thought he'd fall for was Jamie, the shy, almost ethereal daughter of the town's Baptist minister....Jamie, who was destined to show him the depths of the human heart-and the joy and pain of living.
If you have seen the movie then you know basically what happens but you will still cry. It is a wonderful book and a pretty easy read so if you have nothing to do one day you should pick up this book and read it. This is one of my favorite movies and now one of my favorite books.

Maximum Ride Series
I have finally finished the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson!! The Series is 8 books long and is pretty good. My personal favorites are the first three and I think the series could have ended there. The other 5 books are good but it kinda drags on but you should still read them an decide for yourself. :) This is the Synopsis for the first book:
WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE. Do not put this book down. I'm dead serious - your life could depend on it. I'm risking everything by telling you - but you need to know.
STRAP YOURSELF IN for the thrill ride you'll want to take again and again! From Death Valley, California, to the bowels of the New York City subway system, you're about to take off on a heart-stopping adventure that will blow you away...
YOUR FAITHFUL COMPANIONS: Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, the Gasman, and Angel. Six kids who are pretty normal in most ways - except that they're 98 percent human, 2 percent bird. They grew up in a lab, living like rats in cages, but now they're free. Aside, of course, from the fact that they're prime prey for Erasers - wicked wolflike creatures with a taste for flying humans.
THE MISSIONS: Rescue Angel from malicious mutants. Infiltrate a secret facility to track down the flock's missing parents. Scavenge for sustenance. Get revenge on an evil traitor. And save the world. If there's time.
They are young adult/supernatural novels and are pretty easy to read but I started the series when I was in middle school so I had to finish it out. In each book they basically have a different mission and that keeps the series alive. It's James Patterson writing style so the books move fast... if you haven't read James Patterson you should cause he is fantastic. If you want to read the whole series it will be listed on my page.

PS: These aren't the original covers... The originals are better. :)

I Love the Earl
Synopsis: A single lady in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a suitor. Margaret de Lacey has accepted her unmarried state with dignity, if not delight. She had no suitors when she was young and starry-eyed, though regrettably poor, and it's unlikely any man will court her now that she's older, wiser, and still just as penniless. Until, that is, her brother unexpectedly inherits the dukedom of Durham and settles an enormous dowry on her, making her the most eligible heiress in town. No gentleman in London is more in need of a wealthy bride than Rhys Corwen, Earl of Dowling. He contrives an introduction to Margaret because of her dowry, but she swiftly sets him right: no fortune hunter will win her heart or her hand. Far from put off, Rhys is intrigued. Interested. Entranced. And soon the only thing he needs more than Margaret's fortune . . . is her love.
This is the prequel to the series, The Truth about the Duke by Caroline Linden. It's a cute book. Short, only about 147 pages, but if you read the series you should read this one first. It really has nothing to do with the Duke in the rest of the series, but with his sister. It's kinda a predictable historical romance novel so there is not much to say. The story is fast paced and the characters are pretty likable... you can't really have too much character development with a 147 page book. If you like historical romance novels then definitely read this.

Safe Haven
Synopsis: When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor, Jo. Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family. But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her . . . a past that set her on a fearful, shattering journey across the country, to the sheltered oasis of Southport. With Jo's empathic and stubborn support, Katie eventually realizes that she must choose between a life of transient safety and one of riskier rewards . . . and that in the darkest hour, love is the only true safe haven.
I loved this book. The characters were interesting and the plot had just enough mystery to keep you reading. I liked how Katie is the mysterious person who showed up in a small town and Alex was the widower with two kids. From what books I have read of Sparks, the women is usually the widow or single and it is the man that comes to the small town. It was a nice change of pace to be the opposite. I also cannot wait for the movie to come out and hope that it is just as good as the book. I hope you guys read this book cause it's fantastic. :)

The Guardian
Synopsis: Julie Barenson's young husband left her two unexpected gifts before he died - a Great Dane puppy named Singer and the promise that he would always be watching over her. Now four years have passed. Still living in the small town of Swansboro, North Carolina, twenty-nine-year-old Julie is emotionally ready to make a commitment to someone again. But who? Should it be Richard Franklin, the handsome, sophisticated engineer who treats her like a queen? Or Mike Harris, the down-to-earth nice guy who was her husband's best friend? Choosing one of them should bring her more happiness than she's had in years. Instead, Julie is soon fighting for her life in a nightmare spawned by a chilling deception and jealousy so poisonous that it has become a murderous desire...
This book was fantastic :) This book combines two of my favorite genres. It was a romance book with a thriller underneath. All the characters are well developed and the plot is interesting and keeps you on your toes throughout. Some parts frustrated me but it just made the book that more interesting because it makes you want to turn the page and know what happens next. I have fallen in love with Nicholas Sparks' books and this may just be my favorite one.

Just Like Heaven
Another book read!! :) This book is written by one of my favorite authors, Julia Quinn, and is the first book of a spin off of another series. It is a historical romance and is fantastic. It's a really cute and sweet novel... just about two people finding out that they love each other. Just Like Heaven synopsis from Amazon: Honoria Smythe-Smith is: A) a really bad violinist B) still miffed at being nicknamed "Bug" as a child C) not in love with her older brother's best friend D) all of the above Marcus Holroyd is: A) the Earl of Chatteris B) regrettably prone to sprained ankles C) not in love with his best friend's younger sister D) all of the above
Together they: A) eat quite a bit of chocolate cake B) survive a deadly fever and the world's worst musical performance C) fall quite desperately in love
It's Julia Quinn at her best, so you know the answer is . . . D) all of the above
That's basically it.... I don't like to give too much away because I want you to make your own interpretations about the book if you decide to read it (and you may leave comments). I will say though that if you are looking for a short, easy, light, sweet, read you should consider reading this... if not then suggest a book for me to read. This book is nothing spectacular but I really like the author and I really like her other series. That said, please suggest books if you want and I will try to read them... if you don't then I will just keep reading what I want to read. You can also leave comments.

White Lion's Lady
Hello again! :) so I just finished White Lion's Lady by Lara Adrian and it was ok. I wasn't like OMG THIS IS FANTASTIC!!, but it was a decent book. I've read some of Lara Adrian's other stuff and was more impressed with those. It is still a nice romantic novel with a bit of betrayal and mystery. White Lion's Lady synopsis from Amazon: Abducted on the way to her wedding, heiress Isabel de Lamere is unaware that the scoundrel planning to use her for his own gain is the cherished champion of her childhood: Griffin, the White Lion. Yet even as she discovers his treachery, Isabel cannot deny that Griffin lingers in her dreams, awakening the passion in her steadfast heart. Then a twist of fate puts a price on both their heads, embroiling them in a life-and-death chase that will force Griffin to choose between his own freedom and his fierce desire for the woman who would redeem his noble spirit. But to reclaim his lost honor, the White Lion could lose Isabel forever. . . So, if you're interested in this book read it, if not then don't. It is the first book in a series but I don't think I want to read the second book: The Black Lion's Bride. If you like this series kudos to you! :)

1st To Die
So, I have started a new series. The series is the Women's Murder Club by James Patterson. 1st To Die is the first book. :) I have always loved James Patterson. I read his Maximum Ride series and then fell in love with the Women's Murder Club series. 1st To Die synopsis from Amazon: Lindsay Boxer is a homicide inspector who's just gotten some very bad news. She deals with it by immersing herself in her newest case and soliciting the personal as well as professional support of her closest friend, who happens to be the city's medical examiner. The two women, along with an ambitious and sympathetic reporter and an assistant DA, form an unlikely alliance, pooling their information and bypassing the chain of command in an engaging, suspenseful story. So I don't want to give too much away, but as you can see this is a crime/suspense novel centered around 4 women all in positions that help solve murders. The suspense is wonderful and it kept me on my toes the entire time. You feel like you can relate in some way to the characters, not with the jobs but how they are just normal people like you and me. If you like mystery/crime/suspense you should read 1st To Die.

The Hobbit
So I FINALLY finished The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien. It has taken me all of my fall semester to read this book. It's kind of sad because as you can tell I can read so quickly. Oh well. I really enjoyed this book and will be reading the Lord of the Rings series next. It's kind of sad that up until now I haven't even read the LOTR books because I am a HUGE fan of the movies. When I found out that The Hobbit was being made into a movie though I made a point to read the book before I watched the movie and I did just that, the family and I are going to see the movie next week. :) The Hobbit synopsis from Amazon: Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum. This book is one of my favorite books now. I am so glad that I decided to read this book. The Hobbit is the prequel to the LOTR series and I think it is a perfect introduction. If you haven't read this book I suggest you do and I suggest you read the other books in the series (even though I haven't read them they should be good) and you should watch all of the movies. If you read this book I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The Lucky One
Hi again!!
Sorry it has been so long since I have posted anything. I wasn't reading much due to stressing about my finals. :/ For winter break though I am making a point to read new books and post about them so you may hear from me more often during the month of December. Today I just finished The Luck One by Nicholas Sparks and it was FANTASTIC! :) My friend and I watched the movie that came out that was based on the book and I mentioned to her that I would like to read some of his books since I have never read any of his books. She brought me like 6 books and I started with this one. The Lucky One synopsis from Amazon: After U.S. Marine Logan Thibault finds a photograph of a smiling young woman buried in the dirt during his tour of duty in Iraq, he experiences a sudden streak of luck -- winning poker games and even surviving deadly combat. Only his best friend, Victor, seems to have an explanation for his good fortune: the photograph -- his lucky charm. Back home in Colorado, Thibault can't seem to get the woman in the photograph out of his mind and he sets out on a journey across the country to find her. But Thibault is caught off guard by the strong attraction he feels for the woman he encounters in North Carolina - Elizabeth, a divorced mother -- and he keeps the story of the photo, and his luck, a secret. As he and Elizabeth embark upon a passionate love affair, his secret soon threatens to tear them apart -- destroying not only their love, but also their lives. So yes I got the synopsis from amazon but that doesn't matter. What matters is that this book was a great book. I loved the beginning, the middle, and the end. Everything was perfect. So, if you like the synopsis, if you like romance (not heavy on the sex), and you like good books you should read The Lucky One.

Angela Carter
Hello again!! Sorry that I haven't posted in a few weeks. Recently I have found a new love for Angela Carter stories. :) In my Lit & Humanities class we have read several of her stories and I have loved all of them! She usually writes short stories and has a couple novels, but mostly short stories. If you get the chance to read them, you should. On amazon they are pretty cheap and the short stories come in collections. Now what we have read in class has mostly been Gothic Literature, and I don't really know what else she usually writes, so if you don't like Gothic Literature then you might not want to read it, but you should try reading her stories because they aren't in the least bit boring. This is also my opinion so you should read them for yourself and if you don't like them then it's ok. :)
