my dad shared a post on facebook that was like "don't let your kids watch the Barbie movie, it's anti men and very offensive" and i left a coment saying "you paid for my ticket" i can't believe that he would trust the opinion of random people on the internet insted of both HIS WIFE AND HIS SON who BOTH saw the movie on release day and said nothing but good things about the film if someone thinks a movie that says "toxic masculinity is bad" is an attack on men then they probably have a wrong image of what a man should be my dad unironicly said "who was in charge? not the Kens" and im just very confused as to how you could miss the point so badly, then i remember that HE DID NOT WATCH THE MOVIE WITH US AND IS JUST SAYING WHAT OTHER STUPID PEOPLE SAY ON FACEBOOK so now my question is redirected at the idiots on facebook my mom still played with Barbies when she was dating my dad(around 15 to 19 years old) and she loved the movie, i never played with Barbies(there wheren't any in the house) and i loved the movie but my dad who has not seen it says its bad cus facebook said so i can't with him

I'm sorry, but this is the best ending to a movie I’ve ever seen

Ruth Handler (a stand in for God) showing Barbie the meaning of life and being a human (while What Was I Made For playing), and Barbie still wanting to be human afterwards

And then her in the real world wearing PINK BIRKS as a visual depiction of her not forgetting who she is, but also embracing the real world

Finally, her going in and calling herself Barbra Handler, a conglomeration of her old self, her new self, and her creator, and going to see a gynecologist to show that she is no longer a doll

It was so important to have Barbie look at that woman in the bus stop and tell her she's beautiful. Cause, like Barbie herself says, she (as an idea) doesn't have an end. As Stereotypical Barbie, she's meant to be pretty and fun and that's it.

But she shows that beauty doesn't end when you get old. Aging isn't the end of your story, just another phase of it. That old woman is beautiful, and it's good that she knows it.

That's why Barbie ultimately chooses to become human. She wants to experience that new and different kind of beauty; not just her physical appearance, but that of a life well lived. She wants scars and wrinkles and cellulite. Barbie's end is that she lives as a whole narrative rather than some eternal object of visual pleasure.

He's a doll most people have never heard of. He got discontinued forever ago cause he was perceived as gay by consumers and they didn't like that.

But I love that he had an actual role in Barbie. He was very queer coded, yeah, but he didn't like when all the Kens turned to Patriarchy. He was so uncomfortable that he wanted to abandon Barbieland all together. He knew it was wrong.

And then he helped the Barbies get themselves back. He had a pink jumpsuit and sunglasses and went out all stealthy to get the Barbies in the van. He even voted at the end to keep the constitution the way it was.

Unironically a cinematic masterpiece

Second best film of this year so far only beaten by Spider-verse
