Hello all! Sorry for the lack of updates...perhaps one day I will return from the war.. Anyways, I’m pretty sure my Insta page has been hacked, so do not interact with it for the time being. Later!

Hello! This weekend’s breakfast was from ‘The Banksia Tree’ in Port Adelaide. I decided to be boring and get the bacon and egg meal.
This was yet another venue where you can see into the kitchen, which is always cool. They also cooked their food on real wood fires, which is neat! I did find the cafe pretty noisy; I really struggled to hear the far end of the table (though my hearing is lousy, so take that with a grain of salt).
The food was expensive here, but my meal was very nice! It was just your standard eggs and bacon, but it all worked together great. The bacon was nice and had a decent flavour to it apart from “salty”. The egg was a nice combo of oily and salty. All in all, it was a very good example of the breed.
One thing I want to complain about is the goddamm brioche! I was thinking of getting the breakfast burger before I realised it was made with my nemisis brioche. And the same goes for many of the dishes here. I can tolerate brioche when it’s used in a sweet dish, but otherwise I object on every possible level. Fuck brioche, all my homies hate brioche.

Sorry for the late update y'all. Saturday’s breakfast came from Pony and Cole on Manton Street. It was a nice place,  you could see into the kitchen which I thought was very cool.
The banana mocha milkshake was great! I’m pretty sure the whipped cream was just from a can, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t taste good. On the other hand there was definitely real banana, I could taste the chunks!
I loved the wafer straws, I used to get them at my grandma’s house so they’re heavy on the nostalgia for me. The mocha was quite coffee heavy which made things bitter, but it was a lot better once I mixed the cream in properly.
I also got the egg and bacon roll. I don’t really have much to say about this one, it was about what you’d expect. The egg and bacon was good, but nothing special. The relish was really nice, somewhat similar to chilli. There was a general lack of structural integrity, but what you gonna do?

Hey hey! Today’s meal comes from Hey Jupiter on Ebenezer Place. I had the croque monsieur (that’s a ham-and-cheese sandwhich in cheese sauce). The cafe was lovely. It’s a good location; quiet, off any main roads, lots of trees. The building itself had a lovely tile facade and a wall garden. I do have a few quibbles with the service though. First off all, they don’t split bills, so keep that in mind if you eat there. Secondly, (and I feel bad for complaining about this, but it’s worth mentioning) our food took ages to arrive. The food itself was pretty good! The cheese was cheesy, and the bread was excellent. The crust was quite difficut to cut through with the butter knife provided, which caused some structual damage, but it tasted good. It was very salty. For me, it was just within the “still tastes good” range, but if you’re not a fan of salt maybe skip this one. The chutney tasted a lot like tomato sauce/ketchup. I wasn’t really a fan, I thought it didn’t go with the meal. But I’m not a fan of chutney in general so take that with a grain of salt (pun intended). I also got a chance to try a snail in garlic butter! It was fine, somewhat shell-fish like (with a bit of a bitter aftertaste). I’d eat them again, though I probably wouldn’t pay for the pleasure. I also got to eat some table bread! Always a fan of free bread. It was excellent, with a nice chewy crust; though the butter was a bit too margarine-like for my tastes.

I luckily haven't had to deal with much chronic pain or hand pain yet, especially with regards to baking (crochet is another story). That said, these look like some pretty solid tips! There's also some in the comments section.

The sausage breakfast from Ballaboosta on Halifax Street! This was a pizza. It’s just a pizza with an egg on it. And because I’m Australia, “pizza with an egg on it” is just pizza in my books. That being said, it was a pretty good pizza! The flatbread was a little charred/burnt, but that’s normal for woodfired stuff (and to be honest, I like it a little blackened). The water served at Ballaboosta had an odd flavour to it. Not bad, per sey, just unusual. That being said, Adelaide water tastes weird so perhaps what I was picking up on was just…normal water flavour. I liked the toppings on this one; the rocket, cherry tomatoes, and sausage worked well together. You can’t really tell from the picture but there was mozarella on there too, which was nice. Cheesy, but not overpoweringly so. What I’m going to say next will sound like a contradiction, but (a) the egg was the weakest part of the pizza, and (b) there wasn’t enough egg. I say that because the egg was…just kinda a mediocre egg. But I couldn’t pair it with the rest of the pizza because it was all concentrated in the middle (similar to the toppings from last week’s raisin bread, now I think of it). Ah well, it was still good overall! Also there were a lot of dogs at the cafe! Good boys, I love them <3

A thick slice of raisin toast. It sits in a black bowl on top of a small square of grease-paper. It is topped with a thick smear of white and read (ricotta and rubarb). It is decorated with small green leaves, purple flowers, and poppy seeds.

My first breakfast for this blog! This is the raisin toast with whipped ricotta and stewed rhubarb from Crack Kitchen on Franklin St (yes, it’s actually called that, and no, I don’t know why). Not pictured here is the chai latte I got (by the time we came up with the food blog idea I’d already drunk most of it). It was slightly “gritty” due to the bits of spice, but it tasted nice! Plus, I suppose I shouldn’t complain that my chai latte had spice in it! There was a free slice of spring onion in my bowl! Probably not a glowing endorsement, but I love spring onions so I was happy. Also my friend [REDACTED because I’m not sure if they want to use an alias or not] ordered chips (that’s fries, to any Americans in the audience) and those were good! The toppings were very good! I especially liked the ricotta, and I’m usually pretty picky when it comes to ricotta. The rubarb was nice too. My main complaint is with the bread itself. It was fine, but it just kinda tasted like, y’know, raisin bread. And as you can see, there was a lot of it. This meal either needed less bread or more toppings, because the ratios were off and I ended up eating quite a bit of plain raisin bread. This did get a lot better towards the middle of the bread, so if you choose to get this yourself I’d recommend scraping off the toppings so you can mirco-manage the distribution. I will say that the piece of paper underneath my raisin bread got in the way. I’m not sure why it was a necessary addition. To end on a positive note: I like that there were edible flowers! They didn’t taste of anything, but I just think that edible flowers are cool!

I made an Instagram! I won’t be posting anything additional there, but most (all?) of my breakfast crew will be on there! Check it out: https://www.instagram.com/breadandbreakfast_insta/ (God, I still can’t believe that Tumblr of all places was vindicated as the most tolerable social media platform).

Hello!
Hi there, welcome to my new Tumblr. My friends and I get breakfast together every Saturday, and we thought it’d be funny to start food blogs with highly specific niches. We’re in Adelaide, South Australia by the way! As I have strong opinions about bread - fresh bread is divine, brioche is garbage - I decided to claim that as my niche. Every week I will be posting a new breakfast and a short review thereof. I’ll try my best to order a bread-based meal every time (unless I am dissapointed by the bread-based offerings). I’m not expecting any followers who aren’t part of my breakfast gang, but if you’ve managed to stumble across this blog, I hope you enjoy it! P.S. Typing this has made me realise that I cannot spell (I literally had to remake this blog because I misspelled my URL). Please forgive any errors!
