Writing Prompt 1: The Egg

The little girl sits next to the border of the forest and her home, the child’s small dog sitting next to her feet it’s pink tongue hanging out of its mouth it’s white fur stained with dirt. The girls cream skin was also stained in dirt and mud as her slightly ripped blue sundress flows in the strong breeze. The breeze also causing her blonde hair to cover her vision. She can almost hear the forest calling to her as the darkness becomes more difficult to see though as the sun is fading over the distance. She looks down at her bare feet and takes a few steps forward the dog by her heels. She can faintly hear her mother’s voice calling for her but it’s blocked out by the whispers of the woods. The winds stop as she steps over the border of the house and forest the whispers and all other sounds disappearing completely. The girl can hear whistles and humming coming from deep into the forest. Glancing behind her she couldn’t see her house just darkness. A panic rising within her she goes to turn back but is lulled forwards by the Humming and whistles going in a short bit familiar tune. She keeps pulling herself closer the panic passing and a sense of security falling over her. She noticed her dog had run off ahead of her but she is in no rush. The humming turns to words as the voices grow louder.

‘Don’t be afraid

I am always with you

You heart is close with mine

I will protect you

If you love me’

The voices became louder and then the barks of her white dog started. The girl ran over, the darkness becoming a myth as a blue glow appeared all around her as she reached a small area filled with large trees each having a rabbit like hole under them. The girl looked into all of them. All empty, the voices louder than ever now. The girl reached her dog trying to dig into a small hole. The girl kneeled down as the dog noticed her and stopped digging. The voices were so loud it almost hurt her ears. She placed her hand on the small pile of dirt over the hole. The singing stopped and all fell silent. Imminently she dug into the ground getting all the dirt away and looking into the hole seeing a small scaly egg. It was shining so the girl grabbed it and examined it. It was the size of her dog and it wasn’t as heavy as she had expected. She touched the scales and noted that they felt like silicone. The scales the size of the girls own fingernails. She attempted to pull one off to examine it further she it caused the girl to cut her finger as the scales seemed to be a part of the eggs shell or the scales where the whole shell.

The girl took the egg back to her home her parents scolding her for entering the dangerous forest and grounding her. In her room she continued to examine the egg, that had changed in color in the light of her room. She flicked a now purple scale. The girl took some blankets and pillows from her closet and bed and made a small nest out of them setting them next to her nightlight and placing the color changing egg in it. Making sure it was warm and then went to sleep.

The next few days had passed and it seemed the egg had gotten bigger, the girls mother seemed to humor her by telling her it must be a monster inside and that it was going to think she was it’s mommy. But the girl did not mind she just wanted the egg to hatch. One night, the girl awoke to a few small noises near her bedroom door, but not from the outside. Her eyes adjusted to the light and she saw a small creature scutter across her carpet. She almost shrieked but kept it in. Her egg must have hatched! She looked towards it saw it had indeed hatched. Being silent she approached her desk, where the creature had ran. The girl looked under her desk her honey colored eyes connected with glowing purple eyes. Suddenly feeling scared she backed away. The creature slowly crawled out from under the desk covered in some type of goo from the egg. The lizard like creature’s eyes changed from a purple to a lime green as its slit like Cornias become more like a humans than a snakes. The creature had four legs and was covered in feathers and scales. It’s skin was slowly turning from a pitch black to the color of the girls carpet. She stared in awe at the small creature its very long tail swinging behind it the tail had almost faded out of existence it only being covered in scales. It had three horns on each side of its head and smaller horns on its back. It’s sides and the top of its head and all over its neck were covered in also color changing feathers. It made a small chirping noise and approached the girl it’s long body seemingly slithering across the floor and sniffing the girls sock.
