this has probably been asked here before but how likely do you think it is that the author actually truly intended for Griffith and guts relationship to be romantic? How likely do you think it is we’ll get a blatant confirmation (eg a confession of love beyond being friends or even a tragic kiss) and if it does happen do you think it’s likely we’ll get an explicit confirmation on both of their ends so we know the feeling is reciprocated (because I know guts feelings can be underestimated sometimes compared to griffiths). Likelihood as a percentage or on a scale from one to ten lol. I think it’s already pretty obvious enough for me to be satisfied whatever happens but it would be nice if there was an undeniable proof of mutual romantic love. because I think no matter what happens if it’s anything less than spelling it out word for word people would still make attempts to deny their feelings which is kind of sad to me. But I could be wrong of course and romance wasn’t intended by the author. Either way I want them to reveal their feelings for each other whether platonic or romantic.
I'm cynical, so I feel like the odds of something textually romantic happening are like, 2/10 at best. Might've gone up to 3/10 if Miura was stlil alive since it's getting more and more common to confirm gay subtext and that might've influenced him, but since it's being written now by someone determined to adhere to the plans Miura told him, whatever happens is frozen in amber circa Miura and Mori's last conversation, with no room to evolve.
That's all pretty much a moot point anyway because again, I think the odds were always gonna be pretty miniscule anyway.
That said, I think the odds that Miura intended the gay subtext are like 9.5/10 lol. I think the romantic undertones are almost certainly deliberate.
I guess I just don't think it necessarily follows that the point of the subtext was ever to eventually become text. I think it was probably there for a lot of potential other reasons: to add a sense of depth and complexity to their relationship; to add more chemistry; potentially to appeal to women; to suggest that their relationship had the potential for romance that will never be realized therefore making their relationship even more all-encompassing and adding to the tragedy; serving the theme of childhood trauma fucking up your relationships; etc.
Of course I'd be overjoyed if it was acknowledged eventually, and I think the story would ultimately be better for it, like I'm not gonna say it's ~deeper~ if it stays subtext lol. But I think that considering the main target audience for Berserk is horny straight dudes, and while it's getting more common it's still very rare to have textual gay romances between two leads, and almost unheard of in legacy media properties, I just don't think the odds are in griffguts' favour.
Oh, though I do want to add that I'd say the odds of getting an acknowledgement of intense feelings between them post-eclipse is very high. I don't think it'd likely be a romantic confession, but yeah I think it seems very likely that Griffith and Guts are going to acknowledge the intense emotional hold they still have over each other. And if that happens I'll be happy even if it's not textually romantic. I'm sure it'll at least be homoerotic enough for me lol.
Thanks for the ask!

I know Griffith is a complex character. That said, he's FAR from redemption at this point, especially for what he did to Casca. In fact his complexity and depth actually serves to make him worse, because deep down he grew to care for his friends, had good intentions and was torn up by Guts leaving. And yet he still threw it away in the most horrific way possible. Ending and ruining countless lives. A good character does not mean good person, especially Griffith. Whatever good left in him died.
Idk if you're disagreeing with something I said somewhere, but ftr I've always been of the opinion that Griffith is unlikely to get a redemption and it's not something I personally want to see, though less for moral reasons, because I don't really care about morality in fiction, and more because I don't usually enjoy redemption stories lol.
I don't necessarily agree that anything good in him "died," especially because I think part of the point of his character right now is that he still has residual feelings and the audience is being teased by that possibility a lot, but it's a fair read of his post-Eclipse character, and even his lingering emotions doesn't necessary mean that he has any lingering "goodness," however you'd define that.
Though that said, because I'm posting this ask publically and it does come across as a little lecture-y, I also want to mention that I don't think it's wrong to be into the idea of a redemption for Griffith, whether in fic or in canon. It all just comes down to different preferences in fiction.

What headcannons do you have on Wyald? I love that his real form is just a tiny old man. People say he was over the top, but personally I could someone like that existing like that, especially back then in those times. Reminds me of a real figure Ned Lowe, a pirate so bad other pirates thought he was savage. Do you think the apostle forms are what the "user" aspires to be? Like with the wings? Or do they represent what the person has "become" on the inside, like with the less alluring apostles?
Idk if I really have any Wyald headcanons. I guess I assume that he was a very ordinary, boring man whose despair was caused by dying of old age while feeling like his life passed him by and he didn't get to enjoy it? So becoming an apostle is like a do-over and he wildly indulges this time. So that's a headcanon.
But yeah, he's not a favourite character but I don't dislike him either, I think he has a good role in the story and I actually mostly like the Wyald chapters. I don't think he's unrealistic either - I mean, he is to an extent, but he's a monster in a fantasy story lol, the whole point of him is to be over the top and I think it works and fits the story.
Wrt apostles in general, I think they represent what the person has become, moreso than they're chosen. Mostly because I think if you gave people the choice of form to take, the vast majority would be something cool that exists in their imagination already, like a dragon or a giant animal or something. I don't think that many people would consciously choose to be dick or vag monsters, or bug monsters, etc lmao. But I think that because their monster form reflects the person they chose to become through making the sacrifice, they're all ultimately satisfied with it, because it feels like their true selves.
Even loser monsters like this guy I assume lol:

why are people so against negative character development? characters don’t need to improve and become better people they can get worse and make mistakes and end up in a worse state than when they began and it’s just as interesting and entertaining as characters developing positively

HORNY ASK! How horny for griffith was charlotte before they had sex? like you believe she was more innocent and didn't dare imagining him in any sexual scenario or her body at least reacted to her thinking about him?
Honestly this isn't something I've ever thought about actually, het attraction isn't really my wheelhouse lol
I guess it probably depends on how much Charlotte knows about sex. Maybe she gets turned on thinking about him but doesn't translate that into sexual fantasies because she's seriously naive and sheltered. Or maybe she got the sex talk from someone so she knows the basics, and/or maybe she figured out masturbation all on her own and gets off thinking about him.
I guess basically I think you could headcanon anything here because we're not really told much about Charlotte's inner life. I don't really have any headcanons on this subject myself though.

i know i’m just a spiteful little contrarian but i fully believe that the point of tragedy is NOT to give us hope (which it doesn’t naturally anyways unless the story is specifically constructed to do so) but to allow us to revel in the anti-fantasy of “what if everything that could possibly go wrong did go wrong”

Hi!! As I was reading old posts in this blog, I saw you briefly talking about Femto makeup and looks, and it catch my interest. I came to know about Berserk as a teen, through some anime magazines, and I remember thinking that Femto was VERY sexy. When I finally watched the anime, my interpretation of his appearance was that it's the first time he can be attractive without being vulnerable, so he embraced it to a extreme, even through his actions. Ngl, he is scary, but still hot to me, haha.
That's an interesting take on Femto's look! It does make sense to me, since a lot of NeoGriffith's invulnerability is pretty pointedly depicted as a contrast to human Griffith's sexualized vulnerability - eg Ganishka and Gennon as parallels in the way they threaten him, but NeoGriffith being completely untouchable while human Griffith was legitimately in danger. Or NeoGriffith having a hoard of monsters lusting after him but totally unable to act on it.
So yeah, while idk if that's the reason behind Femto's makeup job, it makes sense as an interpretation and I like it.
Thanks for the ask!
