People will make the most beautiful, tragic, well-written OCs and then just... not do anything with them. Like, you know you can just *write,* right? I don't have any OCs, but I have TONNES of Characters which are Original to me (some might call them Original Characters). I don’t call them "OCs", though, because I write stories, and they're characters in those stories.

Like, I get it if your OC is created as part of a specific fandom/franchise and so it's not easy to separate it from that, but that's not what I'm talking about; some people will literally make OCs unrelated to any other story, and then they'll write "fanfiction" about those OCs.

...I shouldn't have to say it, but that is not fanfiction. That's just fiction. You can be a writer. You're allowed. In fact, if you're creative enough to make an OC like that, I'd argue that it's your *duty* to be a writer. Allow those stories to exist. Not backstories, just stories. Nobody else is going to do that for you.
