hi!! I saw you answer an ask about if someone should watch the 4th season of TUA or not and was wondering if it would be worth it to watch the first three seasons of the show? Ive been wanting to watch it for a while but with all the bad things I've heard about the 4th season idk if I should or not :/

seasons 1 and 2 are genuinely good! season 1 has the best balance between serious drama and goofiness and is just a tighter storyline overall, and season 2 swings more into goofiness but is still very fun! the first two seasons are absolutely worth watching

season 3.... ymmv. i thought the plot overall was very sloppy but there are still fun moments that feel like the first two seasons

Hi hi! I've followed you for a while, cause we both love Umbrella Academy!

I just have a question - I haven't seen seaosn 4. Is it worth it?

I've not seen many spoilers (apart from the Five and *cough*that person*cough*) but I've seen the reaction from people. And I honestly don't know whether I should watch or not.

I loved the first 2 seasons, and liked parts of s3. Idk if I should watch s4 and risk potentially ruining the whole show for myself if it's bad and makes me hate the characters, or if I should not watch it which might drive me insane what with having no ending and not knowing what people are on about.

Sorry for the long ask but you've always posted awesome tua content and I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place! Much love!❤️

personally, i kind of wish i hadn't watched the 4th season. i have the same opinions on the other seasons that you do, where i loved 1 and 2 and thought s3 was worse but had its moments.

season 4 is not like that. there's only one scene in the whole six episodes that made me think "oh this is classic tua." genuinely the writers are unable to give ANY of their characters a satisfying arc, they forget or ignore their lore and motivations from earlier seasons, and they add in wildly stupid or downright disgusting elements... just because? i guess? and the ending... don't even get me started. it's the world's shittiest cherry on top of a season that so deeply misunderstood the characters and the reasons people watch this show in the first place.

if you do decide to watch it i recommend going up through episode 4 and then stopping. it's actively mediocre up to that point but it becomes unforgivable in the last two episodes.

i really really wish it wasn't like this. like haha very funny steve blackman, now where's the REAL season 4. but here we are :/

people in the notes pointing out the existence of allison's flat-screen TV, also her brand new BMW (which i noticed at the time bc I was like uhhhhh how is she affording that? but didn't think about the technology implication), also the stupid x-men jet from the flashback. literally soooo embarrassing for the writers

i know tua has generally completely dropped the ball on lore continuity by the end of s4 but one of the inconsistencies that pisses me off most is the technology. season 1 committed hard to an analog 2019, and s2 was in the 60s so it continued it. but in s3 luther mentions the concept of emails in conjuction with a nigerian prince joke and in s4 cryptocurrency exists??? which you could write off as a product of reginald's universe reset EXCEPT they use goddamn rotary phones the whole season sooooooo in conclusion: ?????

i was too busy focusing on the disgusting flesh kaiju at the time to pay too much attention to abagail and reginald's convo on that bench and i don't feel like putting myself through it again so i might be slightly misremembering. but. did she really just say i was dead as punishment for obliterating our home planet and i didn't want you to bring me back to life, therefore, it is ethical to destroy the earth ??????

S1 had a brief mention of eBay that seemed improv'd, but it's easily missable and made it seem like if there is an internet, it was early early internet and computers were not the norm. But then they completely dropped that by s4. What was a writing convenience that added interesting worldbuilding was ignored for lazy modern jokes.

okay you are missing the point of my post. the point is that what they showed us after the hargreeves erased themselves from existence is a menagerie of random characters from earlier seasons of the show all having fun and being peaceful. the message this is objectively sending is that by killing themselves the hargreeves brought about this utopian timeline complete with narration telling us how non-apocalyptic things are. it's not about the individual characters. i was just using the handler as an example.

hey can we talk about how fucking nonsensical and disgustingly cheap the utopian One True Timeline (OTT) is? why are the swedes playing fucking frisbee????? why is the handler in athleisure taking a nice little run through the park?? i guarantee you OTT handler would be like evilly reenacting the devil wears prada at some high end fashion company.

this is literally just a different skin on the same fucking "everyone is happy in heaven" bullshit that lucifer on netflix and supernatural both pulled in their finales. why can the peace and happiness these characters fought for their whole shows only be found in death???????
