DAY 1/2 of @symbruary: Redraw/rewrite

I am the biggest sucker for little kid/big scary friend teams, and I thought this arc was fun, so I had to pick this one for a panel redraw:

It turned out a little messy and a few hours late, but it's the first time in a while that I've started and completed a drawing in one sitting, so I feel good about it!

In Pete's defense, I would probably take the life-threatening nemesis fights over a frenemy that gleefully reminds you of your most embarrassing outfit choices, too.

It was on Discord a while back

I was thinking of having it an episode from the perspective of a Daily Bugle college intern, who is wanting to do a story on Spider-man and how Venom first became one of his nemeses, and stays out late enough to interview him after a scuffle (bonus joke points since they catch him in the act of photographing it for the Bugle and he has to scramble for an excuse) and Pete explains his version, which aligns with most other adaptations.

The next night, they (while very terrified) stake out the alleyways where Venom is seen most often. As Venom, Eddie (who's never reluctant to tell his life story to anyone within earshot anyway) sees something of his previous self in the overly ambitious intern, and goes into a somewhat biased version of events with gusto, all while angrily responding to Peter's take when asked.

Finally, the intern heads home in the small hours of the morning, wondering how they're going to make a cohesive story out of all this, unaware they're being followed. Just before they close the door to their apartment, they're horrified to discover that the symbiote, after separating from Eddie in his sleep, followed them home. After finally convincing them that it has no intention of harming them, it bonds in order to better explain its POV of the story, which sees Peter not with rage, but bittersweet resignation. Then it quietly leaves, leaving the intern stunned.

I'm not much of a writer, but I would still like to do something with this premise eventually.

This started out as a Spongebob reference joke about the symbiote taking some "me time" and coming back to find Eddie has developed some complicated feelings for Peter based on @land-of-brains-and-chocolate 's Eddie/Peter posts, but then it turned into all of this.

This is the first serious attempt I've made at animation, and I now realize that anyone who's job is to animate Spider-man on a regular basis fears neither God nor extreme hand cramps.

@mushroomsandteeth had requested I do a sketch of Cletus a little while ago, who I’d never actually tried to draw before, so naturally I had to draw him as a Courage the Cowardly Dog villain. Please enjoy this gross pointy rat man and his terrible wife.

Days 4 and 5 for @symbruary!

Not much of a jar really, but they’ve had to deal with enough jars, so a mug with some chocolate chip cookies is a good change of pace. 

Venom seems to actually care about kids quite a bit, even if they mostly  tend to be scared of them. Occasionally, there’ll be one kid that isn’t, and will sometimes make a gift as thanks for protecting them or their family.

Day 3 for @symbruary is a bit late, but here it is! As far as favorite hosts go, Eddie’s fun in his own bastard man way, but I kinda wanted to highlight Ngozi and Andi, especially Ngozi since she deserves way more than two stories. I also wanted to give Gwen an honorable mention, even though the symbiote situation is kinda different in that universe, her design is great and I still need to read the Ghost Spider stuff.

Day 2 of @symbruary ! It’s hard to pick a favorite sym character-wise, since it’s one of those “depends on who’s writing” type deals, but c’mon… look. at. her.

In her off time, Scream moonlights as a glamour shot model. This one is called “Liquid Sunset”

Did a thing for @symbruary ! I don’t have many ocs, but I thought it’d be fun to design a symbiote based on fungi. Together with the host, they’re basically whatever the space version of a mage/healer would be. No idea on a name yet, but they’re fun to draw!

The Spider-friends are done!

Turns out their big new alien/human collective friend is pretty nice once they get to know them! Even if Peter can't seem to shake the weirdest sense of deja vu...

(Again, read Marvel Action: Spider-man if you get the chance, it's pretty cute. Especially if you like movieverse Venom)
