The sound made Yukihiro jump; it was late! Who could possibly be wanting to see him at this hour!

...unless it was a ghost? Oh, if it was, he was going to have to move. Wait, he should actually see what was going on first, right?

Whipping his head around, he saw a figure standing at the window, and for a moment Yukihiro felt faint because this felt like the plot to a horror movie...before he realised it was just a young girl. His fear quickly turned to confusion as he stepped over to the window and propped it open.

Yukihiro hummed as he pushed the savoury pancakes around the pan, allowing the side to get evenly cooked. An easy recipe he had found online to relive his trip to Russia; he thought he would try to make it for himself, and Kotori was here, so she could taste test them! Sure, he was no chef, and it wasn’t going to be nearly as good as the real thing, but hey, he was putting plenty of love into it!

“And now I’ll flip them...huh...?”

One by one he flipped over the mini pancakes, revealing black, burnt undersides. What had happened?! They’d only been cooking for a couple of minutes!

“Ahh...I guess this is why Shinonome doesn’t let me near the oven at the cafe...” Yukihiro coughed as the burnt sides revealed smoke. “I don’t get it though, I did what the recipe said...

▼ - childhood headcanon

When Kamiya was 16, after a fight with his parents about grades and dreams and expectations, he decided to bleach his hair as a figurative middle finger to his father. It was a messy and incredibly uneven job, and Soichiro was mortified when he turned up to school with it. His parents were horrified, and it most certainly lead to another quarrel with his father, but what better way to show your strict parents you don’t care about their expectations of you?

He kept bleaching it until he left Japan after graduating; it grew out, he gave himself dodgy haircuts til the very last of the straw-like strands were gone. You decide if his hair suffered more from the home bleach-job or the cutting his own hair while backpacking overseas.

Kamiya’s handwriting is neater now, but when he was younger it was basically chicken-scratch. Still, he wrote a letter to Soichiro every chance he got while he was overseas. When would he get them? Would he even care about the stuff he was doing, given he was living his own dream of learning how to make pastries professionally? Kamiya didn’t know, but he still sent them, telling him all about the sights he was seeing, the people he was meeting.

Soichiro still has every letter Kamiya wrote, every photo he sent. He cherishes them. Sometimes they’re a bit hard to read through the messy handwriting and gradually fading ink or pencil, but sometimes Soichiro digs them out because you can practically feel the love he poured into those letters; all for him.
