you say to me here is a woman. she's insane and irreparably broken and probably a danger to herself and others. and i say yay yippee woohoo! and things of this nature

it's season 6, jenny's still alive. her and giles have taken on most of the caring-for-dawn responsibility so that willow and tara can continue focusing on school, and even work. sometimes her and spike have a drink because she takes pity on the fact that he can't really go to the other scoobies for comfort. giles wants to go back to england for a time - and even though jenny had spent most of her life moving around, running to and running from things, she doesn't think she can do it, or at least not for long. she agrees to go with him and visit family, and vows that she will return to sunnydale after. when buffy is resurrected, jenny and giles immediately come back, obviously - but when giles wants to leave for a second time, and tells jenny that he needs buffy to learn how to be an adult, jenny vehemently disagrees. whether she wanted to or not, her roots have been put down in sunnydale, and she sees all of these kids - dawn, buffy, willow, tara, xander, anya - who need some guidance, desperately. she can't let giles just put this all back on buffy. jenny was given crushing responsibility to her family from a young age, and she's watched buffy bear slayer responsibilities again and again, and she can't let it get worse. so she stays. giles goes. they're on a break, and it is crushing, to dawn especially. but this allows jenny and buffy to finally find closeness with each other.

jenny is the adult who also doesn't quite know what she's doing, but she stays. it's rough but she stays, because they all know it would have been so much worse if she had left, too. the kids do little things to thank her - letting her sleep in if she doesn't have work, making her a meal, bringing her coffees all day or giving her cool new computer upgrades. and suddenly, even without giles, these young people are her family. she can talk to tara or buffy about her worries regarding her relationship with giles; she can cuddle with dawn while watching a movie. her and anya drink coffee and gossip about each other's relationship histories. buffy can talk freely about her conflicting feelings for spike because god knows jenny, naked mud dancer at burning man, is not going to judge her for shit. these kids needed her badly and she would have been there for them.
