“They’ll know where to find me there,” she frowned, trying not to hiss at him. Now wasn’t the time for her to lose her temper. She looked behind her just to make sure she wasn’t followed. “Please, Donald. I’ll give you anything in exchange. I can stay in the restroom or a closet for all I care.” She hated sounding desperate but she was at the moment. “It’s a life or death situation.”

“I look cute and I was going to take a selfie for you but you don’t deserve it.” Rebecca sighed dramatically and rolled over onto her back. “I understand. You’d rather pay attention to something else than me.”

“Oi, you girls and your selfies. First of all, I want to be here in the moment with you.” He lay down next to her and pulled her to his side. “And second of all, bite me.” He chuckled.

​A rare smile made it to the bartenders face when he sees her walk in. It was an almost instinctive response to seeing the girl, like he couldn’t help himself but feel good even though there was nothing going on between them. Where as he was very much engrossed by her beauty and smarts and personality, he knew he was just the bartender– and a friend at most. What hope did he have over all the rich bachelors pining for her attention? “So what mess did your mom sign you up for this time?” He asked once she sat down on the bar, skipping the greetings and getting right into the conversation. He wiped down a glass and prepared her usual drink for her.

“W-Well, you probably did! I mean, those are easy things to forget.”

“Seriously, bruv.” Efraim sighed, turning to Toby. “Just shoot it out.”

He laughed lightly. “What would you even need my phone for? You have your own.”

“You know of my past, right?” He knew she knew, because his past had helped ensured hers didn’t follow her into the present after a… small issue occurred from a former associate of her father.

“While I may not be doing the whole ‘picking up where the law leaves off’ thing anymore personally, I do have a team who does it, and I do think they could benefit from your experience and help, even if you only are hanging back command-side like me.” He knew that while they were good, they still needed someone to help call the plays, and he knew he couldn’t always be there to do it.

She nodded at his question, looking from him to her cup of coffee. She listened to what he had to say, and what he needed her to do, avoiding his eyes the entire time as if that would make the situation less tense. Once he finished speaking, her eyes flickered back up to her friend. “Rick, I live a peaceful life now. Throwing me in the middle of the action again, that would be against the point of my hiding, of my trying to be safe.” She frowned. “But maybe that’s a selfish way of thinking,” she thought out loud. “I’ve always admired that part about you. You could’ve decided to hide away with your-- abilities. But you chose to use it for the better of others rather than what I chose to do.”

“I need a favor from you.” Rick asked the person in front of them. He had known them for a while, and he was about to ask for something that’d get into murky waters.

“I need you to jump off a cliff for me.” Rick said, not meaning it literally.

“Depends on what you need me to do, Rick,” she frowned slightly, looking serious as she set down the mug in her hand. The cafe owner looked quite harmless but she was definitely more than meets the eye.

“Right,” she nodded, smiling feebly as she stared at her reflection in her vanity mirror. She stopped brushing her hair and set the brush down. She sighed to herself. He didn’t have to tell her that to know what kind of person she was. “Okay.”

“Look, about what I said last night… you’re not trash, okay? Don’t let anyone ever tell you that.”

“And where did you get the idea that I would agree to go?”

 “I told you I was going to prom with you, now get ready I can’t wait to see you in that pretty dress your sister told me about.”

“Believe me, if I had a choice, I wouldn’t be here.” She sighed. “I just need a place to stay for the night.”

 “I’m coming.” he said and went to open the door seeing the women standing there. “What are you doing here? I thought you never wanted to see me again.”

“Where as I would rather spend the night getting to cuddle up next to you in bed, I also want you to enjoy your Christmas ball. It’s a sacrifice I’d be glad to make.”

  “You sure you don’t mind coming with me to the Christmas ball? I know you’d rather stay home and all.”

Efraim couldn’t help but laugh when she confessed her love. He placed a hand on the small of her back and pulled her closer so the he could press his lips against hers. “Clary, I’m only going to be gone for three months.” He chuckled, her words ringing in his head. He knew he loved her too. But he had never said those words to anyone in his life and he didn’t know how to. “But if you wish to come with me, I’ll pay for the ticket and you can live with me in New York.” He pressed his lips against hers one more time and the words just fell out of his mouth. “I love you, too.”

“So you stalled me to tell me I left my shoes?” He furrowed his brows, frowning lightly at Toby. “Mate, quit beatin’ around the bush.”

“What did you need to tell me? You need to make it snappy, I have to leave for the airport like-- yesterday.”

“You’re very wealthy and I grew up poor and now we’re buying furnishings for our first house together, and will you PLEASE put those back, we DO NOT need $900 bed sheets!” au
