Autumn tea …

Sooooo, I made a dachshund out of gingerbread this year. (Because I figured, what better for a distraction from this whole year and the prospect of spending Christmas alone, than getting involved in a project?)

So I bought a papercraft pattern on etsy (this one) from SofsPaperPlanet, and built it in paper. Then I adjusted the pattern pieces so that they’d fit better for making in gingerbread (gingerbread is less bendable and foldable than paper, who knew??). Then I spent 8 hours on Saturday baking individual pieces (one or two at a time, so I’d have time to bend them while they were hot from the oven = bendable, before they got hard), and then I’ve spent Sunday, Monday and Tuesday slowly putting it together! And what WAS 97 pieces turned into more like 110-115 pieces, because I dropped them and had to adjust the pattern and bake more pieces to fit it, because again - cookie is not foldable.

But it’s done! And it looks totally okay. I am pleased. It is put together with … icing? (egg white mixed with a lot of powdered sugar and a dash of milk and/or lemon juice and food colouring) so it’s 100% edible (although I’ll probably overdose on sugar if I eat it all).

Also, bonus. Because I love nonstop (Swedish equivalent of m’n’ms, but better), I wanted to cover the dog in them. I bought five or six bags and picked out only the black and brown ones. It still wasn’t enough … so this is how it ended up:

It looks okay, but not as impressive as I’d imagined. Oh well, it’ll be TASTY anyway!

(But please, someone - please remind me not to do this next year? Please? I don’t know why I keep doing this.)
