I mean, if she's being transphobic to Vivian, then that means they reverted the localization changes from the original and just made her openly trans in all versions, so I get the excitement. That's a great thing for them to fix for the remake.
But that doesn't make seeing the excitement for a character being transphobic in a mario game any less funny
Watching Twitter explode with excitement over a screenshot of Beldam being seemingly transphobic Paper Mario TTYD remake is certainly an experience

You are a shapeshifter who has secretly taken on many fake villain personas across the world. Your goal is to fight each hero you meet with a persona that embodies said hero’s worst traits, forcing them to change for the better in order to defeat you.

In a world of magic and dragons, everyone thought the healers needed to be protected. No offensive magic to speak of how could they protect them selfs? That’s what everyone thought. Until you proved you can actualy heal someone to death…

i don't really understand why people react in shuddering horror to the idea of casually eating raw onion or raw garlic cloves as a snack they're so good. cronch like potato chip but tangy flavor with a little bit of sweetness and a pleasant aftertaste. delicious. what vitamins am i deficient in.

In 4 minutes, Kurt Vonnegut explained stories better than anyone I’ve ever heard. “The shape of the curve is what matters. Not their origins.”
He plots stories on 2 axes: X: Time, Y: Good fortune / ill fortune. He goes on to say, “Somebody gets into trouble, then gets out of it again. People love that story. They never get tired of it.”
Point 1: Stories have defined patterns.
In Joseph Campbell’s Hero of a Thousand Faces, he makes the case for the Hero’s Journey. Since then, it’s become the most famous storytelling structure in the world. Vonnegut argued stories could be divided into 8 shapes.
Each story, he said, fit one of the 8.
Point 2: Vonnegut says, “Be a sadist.”
No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them — so the reader may see what they're made of.” To see who your characters really are, you have to make them suffer. Only then does your audience have someone worth cheering for.
Point 3: End on a high note.
Vonnegut says, “It’s not accidental that the line ends up higher than where it began. This is encouraging to readers.” The way a story makes people feel when they finish is how they remember it. It’s called recency bias. Lift people up and they will love you.
“There are people. There are stories. The people think they shape the stories, but the reverse is often closer to the truth.” —Kurt Vonnegut

SDV feels like it could so easily become a fairy story.
You move to a little coastal town where you begin recovering a plot of land, some of the locals take a shine to you and you to them. It's nice, homey. Everyone is welcoming except for the established town grumps.
Suddenly you realize you never leave town. Everything you want is obtainable at the little mom'n'pop general store, or from some of the locals themselves. You never go into the city to sell goods because the mayor does it for you- right? You never really see him do it. You just lie down in bed and wake up in the morning. When was the last time you dreamed?
You need new shoes and the adventurers club sells you handmade leather boots that fit perfectly despite never asking for a shoe size. Your clothes sew themselves when you lay a bolt of fabric and a random item onto the sewing machine- you blink and it's done.
The general store sells fertilizers that turn your garden plot into a verdant field. You spend all day harvesting crops with tools that gleam silver, gold, purple. Saplings grow over a month into fully productive fruit trees, your beehives drop jars of honey into your hands.
The blacksmith cracks open geodes full of polished gemstones. There's a man in the woods who says he found you in the mines but you were 80 levels deep. The elevator works but the minecarts don't. You gave a diamond to a local girl and she ate it like a plum.
And suddenly everyone is drinking mayonnaise.
