Lmao @ those who think people hated TLJ because expectations were too high and/or we didn’t like that Rian took so many “risks” (as they called it) and/or people were just biased about wanting something different:

There’s a difference between a movie being bad because it took risks that didn’t follow through and/or work, and a movie being shit because it took every fundamental truth about the Star Wars universe and every fundamental truth about established characters and lit them on fire solely for the sake of twists and “taking it to the next level” and “doing what hasn’t been done before”. There’s a fundamental difference between building upon what’s already been established and expanding it in new and interesting ways from that point on vs tearing every single previous thing down in order to make way for characters and plotlines they couldn’t successfully write into the narrative otherwise for the sake of ones weird ass AU.

“Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to.” How very meta of you to provide your goal for us, Rian. And also fuck you.

tfw finn walking around half dead and confused and dazed in his leaky af bacta suit is actually the perfect metaphor for how this film is falling apart at the seems and simultaneously makes you feel like you’ve been in a coma for a week

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK honestly believe that Luke, who forgave and risked everything, his own life and the lives of others, to bring his seemingly irredeemable father back to the light when no one else thought there was a chance and when the fate of the galaxy hung in the balance, would legit try to  kill his nephew because he was “scared” of the darkness within him

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK had all the golden material of a Finn-as-the-Stormtrooper-Revolution-Catalyst but instead chose to relegate his arc to comedic humor

Tfw you get excited about Mark Hamill being surprised by RJ’s interpretation of Luke Skywalker and the whole “the Jedi must end” line because you think it means they’re actually acknowledging that Luke has realized the many faults of the Jedi and knows about the importance of recognizing the light and dark within everyone but instead it actually means that Luke is super chill about even contemplating killing his nephew cuz he’s that dedicated to a “light only” narrative and NOT the most family/love focused person ever

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK literally, actually, legitimately made the whole reason for Rey’s character to exist and be ridiculously powerful (for anyone not a descendant of the Skywalker line) was as an “answer” to the darkness inside of Ben/Kylo, even though he was just a child at the time of her birth and homie you cant judge a kid that quickly, instead of as her own character with her own direction that doesn’t involve being tied explicitly to Kylo Ren’s development 

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK decide to bring back Yoda’s ghost instead of Anakins because for some reason that is the choice with more emotionally resonant weight

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK try to make Leia the heartless one-off of her family who’s just completely chill with Luke taking out her son cuz “he was lost a long time ago” when we all know that there is almost no limit to how far a Skywalker can fall but still be saved

Tfw you get really excited about all the “nuance” and “ambiguity” the press interviews said there would be in this movie, thinking its about the intricacies of the nature of morality and ones moral compass in a universe with socially accepted ideas of “light” and “dark”, and that they might delve into complexities within everyone, but instead that means blatantly ignoring decades worth of established personality traits (and new ones from the TFA babies) and otherwise golden possibilities to focus on the yin and yang aspect of two single characters who have no conceivable reason for their deep connection given that they are no longer related and wasn’t organically created to begin with

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK literally hired legends Andy Freakin’ Serkis, Laura Dern, and Benicio Del Toro only for them to get piss-poor screentime and/or otherwise get killed off

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK ignore all the effort and the complex clues from JJ and the extended universe material about Rey’s parentage to ultimately go with “oh shes a nobody” because they didnt want to actually put in the work and thought that this decision would somehow be satisfying and rational

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK decide to ignore all the intriguing and canonical evidence put forth and confirmed by JJ/other writers about Kylo/Bens legitimate brainwashing/grooming from birth to instead make his ultimate decision to run to Snoke be about Luke trying to kill him because that makes things more simple

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK expect me to believe that Leia wouldn’t have seen/felt through the Force that Luke/Ben had a Moment and a Showdown and that Ben wouldnt have run to Mommy to complain

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK think that somehow Kylo/Ben wouldn’t have even been able to sense Leia was alive even when she’s his mother and they are a Force strong family but somehow he has a magical and never explained Force bond with Rey even though she’s not a Skywalker

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK/JJ never bothered to come up with a solid outline for the ST because they were only ever interested in money and/or realizing their own personal visions instead of being true to the heart and core of what Star Wars is and ultimately disrespecting everything thats been built

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK literally and willingly used every bit of classic Skywalker iconography and establishments to hype up the mystery/importance of Reys character in order to get people emotionally invested because they assumed from the beginning that they couldnt get people interested otherwise

Tfw Rian Johnson/LF/KK systematically massacre all of the OT characers and ruin the entire previous narrative for the sake of their weird ass AU

Tfw you know almost everyone is going to walk out of the theater thinking this was actually a good and worthy continuation of the Skywalker Saga even though the heart of what that means has been ripped out and pissed on

Tfw its all okay because none of it actually makes sense and it doesnt have to be you canon because, hey, even Lucasfilm itself admitted that nothing is canon and they can change whatever they want, previously established form the OT or not, whenever they want just because they feel like it

Tfw you still cant get over that they think Luke Skywalker would actually think about killing his nephew, who wasnt and still isnt anywhere near his Grandpa on the Naughty Scale, when his entire arc is about forgiveness, family, and about being so dedicated to the completion of that family that he would risk anything
