I like BBC ghosts. a lot. (might occasionally post about other things too, but for now it's just the ghosts)

thinking ab how if the ghosts want something (like who goes first for movie night or who gets the best spot on the couch) they might've used the argument "well I'm older!"
Robin would argue that he's been around 9,000 years. Fanny would tell him he's only 23. She, on the other hand, is decidedly much older than 23 (by how much? not nearly enough, I should think, how dare you ask! Asking a lady her age, what has this world come to?). Julian argues he gets to pick what sport they watch today. He is 48, and Humphrey's only 45! so what if Julian wants to watch baseball? Humphrey died hundreds of years before he was ever born, he'll watch cricket if he wants to! The captain wants to watch war documentaries? That's too bad! Thomas died first, so he gets to watch his brand new drama. What? No! Thomas is only 28! The captain should get first pick! Pat doesn't get to pick the music they dance to, Kitty does! She's way older, and she's in the mood for something after 1975, thank you Pat. Pat's older, so he should listen to the Beatles as much as he wants!
(it drives Alison up the wall. They'll have to put in some rules for a proper debate about how it works before she goes mad)

mia cooper is gonna grow up to be a historian and you can't change my mind. like.
imagine how many stories about the ghosts and their lives alison would tell her whilst she's growing up. how could little mia not be fascinated with the uncle killed in a catholic plot. the auntie who remembers when pineapples were brought over to britain. the aunt, she never got to know who experienced the witch trials first-hand. the other uncle who had beef with lord byron. she becomes a champion for the forgotten women in history who were maths geniuses. she studies homosexuality in the army during the world wars. she knows far more than the average historian about the intricacies of the daily life of cavemen.
mia is surrounded by rich history and is connected to it in a very personal way.
she comes home from school to excitedly tell alison and mike what she learned in history that day and goes back the next day with wild historical anecdotes from her mum she can't always prove are true, but her eyes are sparkling even as the teacher nods politely.
at uni, she's got a myriad of dissertation ideas and keeps changing her mind on what to write because she wants to give every era her family are from equal precedence and finds them all interesting
when she completes her PhD, she celebrates by booking into the button house hotel with her parents, and popping a bottle of champagne in a room full of ghosts she can't see, but loves and credits and thanks for her passion. along with her parents, who supported her and told her the stories they knew. and mia's especially thankful for the sheer amount of times they agreed to book stays at the hotel so mia and alison could ask the ghosts questions whilst she was studying and writing
mike taught her the bathroom mirror trick years ago. julian writes 'we are so proud of you'
mia spends her life encouraging people to look at history from the perspective of everyday individuals
mia cooper fucking loves history guys

imagining mia having a project on ww2 and the captain going fucking crazy like "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE" so alison agrees to help cap with an interview (mia is either very excited ab cap getting an interview or incredibly amused (probably)). and cap can't wait to info dump ab weapons and tanks until he gets to the interview and finds its about queer history and not ww2, he misheard because that's the era mia chose/was given to do. he's too prideful to back down tho (ah, yes, ofc I knew this all along. yes I just thought opening with the history of the Enfield number two standard issue revolver would be beneficial to her research. just talk about my own experience? uh yeah. that's fine actually. *cap nosies*). it takes him a while to open up, but once he does he gets to relive moments with havers (I don't think he'd say his name tho. if he did he'd ask them to not put it in) and talk about what happened and why he thinks havers left and how it leads to his death (like mini-therapy (even tho talking to the other ghosts in carpe diem seems to have helped a lot)

ever since I heard havers' name for the first time all I can imagine is the captain reacting like aziraphale did when he learned crowley's first name. my brain is just like "anthony???" "what? u don't like it? :(" "*gay panic* nono! I didn't say that!" and then some captain noises probably

the beauty of gone gone cannot be overstated. the brilliant suddenness and mundanity of mary's loss. the delicate balance between joviality and sorrow. the different aspects of grief represented by the different characters. the way thomas makes things all about himself instinctively but eventually acknowledges that his draw towards words in the face of loss wasn't what would've suited mary best, and instead asks alison to gather physical objects as an ode to mary's practicality. the way alison deliberately tells the captain she understands his instinct towards keeping himself too busy to feel his emotions and how that fits into the grander arc of their familial relationship. robin's understanding of grief being a completely different beast entirely because of his millennia of perspective, but also how the human experience remains the same. people live and they die and they are remembered and they are remembered and they are remembered. that's where we go. back to the stars.

hey uh. wtf was going on with lord brigadier sir anthony bartholomew raisinby jones. he served with the captain in the war. he left for north africa. was the captain not ready to tell the others ab havers? why would he make up a fake name? did he and havers talk ab secret spy names when they were doing paperwork or whatever back during the war? was havers just like "yeah my super cool spy name would be lord brigadier sir anthony bartholomew raisinby jones" and the captain was just like "yep I'm remembering this forever and ever" did they actually go on a super secret spy mission? (probably not but I'm delusional and silly) what happened on that walk with him? WHAT HAPPENED ON THE WALK. WHY IS IT UR FONDEST MEMORY CAP. U CAN TELL ME. PLEASE.
