long live the scene.
He was a clumsy eater. Bread crumbs everywhere. A damp spot on his thigh as a result of him accidentally spilling water on himself. Fortunately, he was as clean as he was clumsy, so when he finished his sandwich and drink, he moved to sweep up the crumbs. There were plenty scattered along the table and plenty more on the ground when he stood to shake them off. And seeing the havoc he had caused to this Subway's floor reminded him of how much he hated bread. Really, the only reason why he came here in the first place was because they had a $3 for six inches deal, and he thought hell yeah, because last time, he had to pay well over $300 for six inches.
Just kidding.
He wasn't about that life.
After tossing the trash -- crumbs and all -- away, he exited the restaurant and felt the discriminating eyes roll back. They'd been on him for the last ten minutes, and if there was anything he hated more than bread, it was being stared at. He didn't mind the attention, but when people stared, he could only assume that they wanted something. Now, he didn't know what the flying fuck people would want from him at a sandwich shop but he --
Wait.
Just kidding.
He knew what they wanted: an explanation. Typical. He wasn't, by any means, the usual slob. The hoodie. The jeans. Nah, he didn't dig that. His style was more alternative, per se, and it usually consisted of a tight-fitting wife-beater, some equally tight crust pants, a couple of body altercations here or there, and -- all right, so maybe he dressed like he was going to chase someone down with a baseball bat, but he wasn't about that life either. His delinquent behavior was more centralized on a certain person -- the neighborhood patrol officer.
Erwin Smith. That was the man's name. Blond, tall, model status. He liked Erwin Smith. He liked him so much that he decided to lean against the empty police car (the bastard was probably out taking a shit) and wait for him to come back.

bad teacher.
Levi had one belief in life, and he swore to stand with that belief for as long as it reigned true. And it would always be true, because his belief was this: substitute teachers had it worse than actual teachers. Anyone who challenged this thought would be put down on the spot, because Levi Ackerman, high school substitute teacher, knew the truth.
Being a sub was a pain in the ass (no pun intended, ha). That's to put it simply. If anyone wanted the details, Levi would be more than happy to give them the run down of how subs were the lowest of the low. They were always looked down upon. Wannabe teachers, he heard a student whisper to another once. He almost smashed that kid's face in with his foot, but unfortunately, that was against school policy.
Subs, though. They weren't paid enough to deal with the shit they had to deal with. Which included acting dumb. Apparently it went against the sub-code to have common sense. Mrs. So-and-so doesn't make us do work. Well, good golly god, she must've left these worksheets behind for him to do. Truly incredible.
Needless to say, Levi wasn't exactly pleased to sub for any class, but this was the only job that paid well. So here he was, standing in front of yet another class with students staring googly-eyed at him (lack of sleep, he understood that look all too well). He started off writing his name on the board. Mr. Ackerman. (Gross, just call me Levi.) Then he continued to take roll, and lo-behold, half of the class had skipped. No surprise there.
"-- Leonhardt?" He didn't even give her a second to answer. "Absent." Not that she would answer anyway. Annie Leonhardt, like the rest of her classmates, had probably skipped.

obligxtus:
I think you’re missing out, I think you’re dumbing it down; you’re past the point of owning up to your words. - The Fortunate ✘ Cartel
♞ ▎ Anyone who went out of their way to go to the ‘great’ Corporal Levi was putting themselves smack-dab in the center of a suicide mission. Humanity’s Strongest had a reputation— not the most pleasant. Hard to swallow, as smooth as a floor made entirely of broken glass. A hefty gall was required to approach him. If there was any group of people who had no reason to be within a breath of him, it was anyone from the Police. It wasn’t ever clear whether or not he actually had a personal vendetta against them or not—
Suggesting that would be a lie. Of course he did. Most people did, but something white-hot burned between the Unicorn-Backs and the rest of society. If there was a poster child that could be pinged right away, it was Levi. Nile knew this well and took it with a grain of salt— or rather an entire handful —when he actually needed to approach him for a reason. Strictly business. He would be out of there in no time. Hopefully.
No notice. No appointment. He just showed up, rather pushing his way into the man’s office without explicit permission. What could he do? Call the cops…? He was already dealing with the cops. He couldn’t do shit. Nile opened immediately with what he needed to say—
"I need a status report on Jaeger. No frills. Just tell me what I need to know so I can get away from this place. I don’t like being around you longer than I have to."
He couldn’t just toss one of his men into this It had to be himself.
The definition of the unfortunate.
Levi didn't give two shits about anyone. All right, so maybe that was a lie. He gave a whole shit for Erwin and probably half a shit for Hanji, but everyone else was shitless. Sometimes he felt like his shit-giving was limited -- that was, if he gave a shit today, then he would need to sit back, chill out, and replenish his supply of shit for tomorrow. That was how the Law of I Don't Give a Damn worked. So when Nile -- fucking Nile, of all people -- strolled into his office without an appointment, Levi just gave him his best bitch face, because he was not in the mood today.
And of course, Nile came here to ask about Eren Jaeger.
It's always about Eren Jaeger.
He could ignore Nile. Pretend he wasn't even there in all his Military Police glory -- but that would bring on complications, because he knew Nile wasn't the type to leave without getting what he came here for. Levi couldn't have that. See, Nile stunk of the king's ass (the MP always smelled like the king's ass, since they kissed it so much), and quite frankly, Levi didn't want his office smelling like ass. So he made the decision to tell Nile about Eren Jaeger's status.
"He's alive."
No details, no frills. That's what Nile had asked for.
"-- Now, get out."
He had but little patience for this man.
