To do
Mine eyes have seen the glory of The coming of the Lord above He’s got some grapes of wrath He’s gonna brew ya He’s loosed the fateful lightning stored Within his terrible swift sword Truth’s marching, glory glory hallelujah! Hallelujah, hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelu..uu uu uu…ujah
I’ve seen Him in a hundred camps They’ve built an altar in the damps And where the chill of evening passes through ya I’ve read his righteous sentence in The lights that flare both bright and dim His day comes, glory glory hallelujah! Hallelujah, hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelu..uu uu uu…ujah
I read a Gospel writ in steel God sees how you with sinners deal And as you do to them, His grace will do ya Let hero born of woman crush The serpent hidden in the brush God’s marching, glory glory hallelujah! Hallelujah, hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelu..uu uu uu…ujah
He’s sounded forth the trumpet call That never knows retreat at all And from His judgment seat He’s gonna view ya Be swift my soul his call to meet Be jubilant, my legs and feet God’s marching, glory glory hallelujah! Hallelujah, hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelu..uu uu uu…ujah
Beside the lilies, Christ was born Amidst the beauty of the morn With glory in His bosom to renew ya And as He died in saving me So I will die to make men free God’s marching, glory glory hallelujah! Hallelujah, hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelu..uu uu uu…ujah

According to this Vox article:
- Mic.com sold for less than $5 million last year - Mashable sold for less than $50 million in 2017 - The whole Gawker network (plus some other stuff including The Onion) sold for $50 million in 2016. - There are hints that Vox itself might not be worth that much more.
This seems really undervalued to me. To put this in perspective, there are 540 billionaires in America. Many of these people could buy Mic, Mashable, Gawker, the Onion, and Vox, with enough cash left over to buy the Washington Post (which sold for $250 million in 2013).
So…why don’t they? People always talk about how billionaires have a lot of “power”. But what exactly is the money:power exchange rate? You can always lobby. But that gets diminishing returns pretty quickly. If you were someone like Peter Thiel, George Soros, or the Koch Brothers, who wanted to shape the conversation in a really long-term way, surely this would be one of your best bets.
Or maybe this wouldn’t work. Maybe it would be hard to get good writers who would carry out your agenda. Or maybe if a site deviated from maximally clickbaitty, in any direction, people would stop reading it. Or maybe there’s a fixed amount of liberal and conservative media attention, and if a liberal site makes any step towards conservative (or vice versa) then a proportional amount of liberal readers will abandon it, and conservative readers just spread themselves more thinly, without any meaningful change in who reads liberal or conservative news (but what if you cared about something specific, not just liberal vs. conservative?)
The Open Philanthropy Project has something like $10 billion they don’t know what to do with. Buying out all of print media would be, if nothing else, pretty interesting.
