AHHHH I SO FORGOT TO MAKE A VALENTINE'S POST FOR THESE GOOFY GOOBERS, OMG I'VE FAILED AT MY ONE PURPOSE IN LIFE

valentine's day is literally my birthday too, how did i miss this T_T

ok so i'm not a history expert or anything, but google tells me that valentine's day didn't rly exist in japan until the 50's, so usagi has NO clue why there's all sorts of hearts and winged babies hung around the turtles home when he comes to visit shortly after new years.

when he asks leo about it, leo gets a little skittish, but answers him clearly enough. usagi thinks it's sweet to have a whole holiday to celebrate love; he pecks leo on the cheek, and that's that.

that is, until later when leo and raph are sparring and usagi is hanging out with mikey and donnie. they're talking a little more about the holiday and mikey mentions that they don't usually celebrate it, but since leo has usagi this year, they figured, why not ! usagi asks a few more questions about the customs of the celebration and he finds out that usually, couples will get each other gifts for the holiday. usagi panics a bit because he didn't bring anything for leo, but if his beloved was expecting a gift, he didn't want to disappoint him!

they run up to the surface to see if they can find any last minute gifts left on the shelves, but all the stores have been cleared out in the love-induced frenzy.

later, when leo and usagi are finally alone, usagi confesses to him that he wasn't aware of the gift aspects of the holiday and apologizes for not having anything for him. he gets himself pretty worked up before leo kind of chuckles and is like, "usagi, if i expected a gift from you, i would have told you about this holiday before you came to visit on the day of."

and usagi realizes oh. that. actually makes a lot of sense. welp.

they have a good laugh about it, and promise each other to be prepared for the holiday next year, but right now, all they really need is each other.

im back on my "canon is dead and i reign supreme" bullshit lmao

leo and usagi don't get to see each other very often (for obvious reasons lol) so when they do get to visit, they're attached at the hip the whole time.

when in leo's dimension, they're often found in the nooks and crannies of the turtles home, just enjoying each others company: usagi rubs a balm into leo's scales so they don't get too dry and crack, they share a bag of chips together while talking about god knows what, they sit on the same loveseat, legs tangled together because they can't stand the physical distance anymore, a chess board with a largely forgotten game balanced precariously on their laps. leo's brothers will come to find them but once they see the disgusting loving scene they would interrupt, they leave the lovebirds be.

in usagi's dimension, they climb to the tops of the trees to see the villages below, they sleep in the fields together, wrapped around each other for warm and closeness's sake, they share meals that leo's never tried before, broadening his palate's horizon, they make it a mission to find the best clearings and hot springs to sit and talk undisturbed for hours on end, they fight off bandits from merchants and, in the process, earn quite a formidable reputation as a duo.

yes, they also meet up with friends in both dimensions, but they're all vaguely nauseous from the shameless, open displays of love that they tend to just leave the two to their own devices lol

leo and usagi are so funny to me cuz i personally took canon out behind the building and shot her in the back of the head mafia style, so in my head, they're like, obsessed w each other.

they're both chronic yappers, but they suppress it well enough that it doesn't usually interfere w their regular lives. for some reason tho, the really have a knack for setting each other off, so everytime they're hanging out, they just. talk. like, a lot. no one else can get a word in edgewise, they will get cut off lol

not only this, but when they aren't together, they will always find a way to talk about the other. leo's brothers know way to much about usagi given none of the rest of them are particularly close friends with him like leo is, and leo's never even met any of usagi's friends (maybe gen, but only in passing rly), but they also hear all ab leo.

leo goes to visit usagi, of his own will this time lol, and when he gets to meet usagi's friends, he goes, "hi, i'm leo, i-" and they're all like, "WE KNOW" and then like, catch themselves and apologize/ explain that they just hear so much about him that the eye rolls n stuff have become a pavlovian response upon hearing his name lmao

usagi gets caught up in a big battle, maybe with a single formidable foe, maybe with a group of bandits, something or other, but he gets caught up fighting for his life.

he gets out alive, but not before gravely wounding one of his opponents (maybe, he didn't exactly stick around to check for a pulse) and sustaining substantial injuries himself.

he's far from any familiar lands or friends, so he does the only thing he can think of doing: he quickly scrawls a portal on a nearby rock, praying that it's not too sloppy to work, and throws himself into third earth.

the turtles find him unconcious.

he's brought back to the lair, bandaged up as best as possible, and laid in a cot to rest. leo doesn't leave his side, changing his gauze when necessary, gently cleaning his fur with a damp sponge when he starts to sweat, and cups his hands when he starts whimpering due to nightmares.

when he wakes up, he's met with the sight of leo asleep in a chair next to his cot.

he's nursed back to health by the noble warrior that has held his heart in the palm of his hand since the day they met.
