Fedor: Return or Nah @RondaRousey @criscyborg @danawhite @titoortiz @seanshelby #Opinion

Various news outlets are reporting that Fedor is mulling over a comeback to MMA. He is said to be fielding offers from all promotions not named Bellator MMA.

Fedor in his prime was like a pudgy, heavyweight, male, Secret Wars-variant of Ronda Rousey. He cut his mmateeth in the now defunct PrideFC and quickly gained a reputation as an unstoppable Sambo master with Mjornir-fisted stand up.

Down in the Japanese barrios there were whispers that he really was a Terminator, a blue-eyed T-800, with superhuman strength and a penchant for absorbing punishment. Once Kevin Randleman took Fedor to Suplex City with a wild, looping suplex after taking Fedor’s back and trapping both of his arms - he landed on his head and neck. This suplex can only be described as a variation of Goldberg’s jackhammer finisher that started from a German Suplex position as opposed to a vertical brainbuster position before  the hapless opponent is flipped in mid-air and slammed. Fedor rebounded and would later tap out Randleman with a kimura. It turns out that the Russian and the Monster took a detour and ended up in the dead end ghetto affectionately referred to as “Sambo City Comrade”. Fedor accomplished a widely touted undefeated streak that lasted a number of years; however, there was a number of chinks in his armor - bad management.

It can even be said that he was the king of the humble brag in public, and in direct contrast, a drama queen, a premadonna, behind closed doors with the biggest MMA organization in existence - the UFC. The main sticking point was his manager’s demands that the UFC co-promote with his fledgling Russian MMA organization: M-1 Global. He would often deflect fan outrage by saying he would do what, “God wills”.

Apparently, Fedor and his mysterious priest that favors Rasputin from the Hellboy comics and movies have never read the Torah because the G-d of the Torah draws the line of co-promotion with Abraham, Issac, and Jacob (see Exodus 34:14 - The L-rd: his name is Jealous).

The UFC would flip the bill and costs for any fight featuring Fedor - M-1 Global would simply bring Fedor as a peace offering. Fedor also had a reputation of suffering from a psychological phenomenon often seen in combat sports: Superfight Avoidance Syndrome.

Fights were on the table potentially pitting Fedor against Alistair Overeem, Brock Lesnar, and Randy Couture; however, he made excuses to avoid them all.

One fight that he did take in Strikeforce was against Fabricio Werdum a very goofy, very lethal BJJ prodigy who now is the undisputed UFC Heavyweight Champion of the World. He shook up the world by submitting Fedor with a triangle choke.

Randy Couture is retired, Alistair has been exposed, and Brock Lesnar is perfectly happy on a relaxed schedule with WWE. Members of Fedor’s personal Hall of Pain are chomping at the bit for a piece at Fedor if he is indeed to step into the Octogan, but the penultimate question is do fans still care?

The only superfight that makes any sense is a rematch between he and Werdum: it a match-up pregnant with multiple narratives including whether or not their first fight was a fluke.

In my humble opinion, one of Fedor’s former Strikeforce co-workers has taken his post as unstoppable MMA fighter with an equally unstoppable win streak - Ronda Rousey. If Fedor was the equivalent of a T-800, Rousey is that Lana-lookin, sleek, updated T-X liquid nitrogen bish from Terminator 3.

Truth be told I would rather see Rousey fight Holm, Tate, Eye, etc.; at least she fights on a consistent basis without making outrageous demands and alienating fans in the process.

One question haunts me as a Rousey fan. Will Rousey fall victim to Superfight Avoidance Syndrome, and a hungry upstart, by not moving up in weight to 145 lbs. (her original weight division in Strikeforce) and running the risk of losing all of the accolades, “cash and prizes”, and bragging rights that come with being victorious in an incomparable super-fight with undisputed Invicta FC pound-for-pound champ (and Lionfights Muay Thai competitor) Cris Cyborg? Time will only tell.
